I got all of these books at the library as digital audiobooks except the novella which was a Kindle ebook. I have read most of the Sabina Kane series but picked up this new to me series since she is an author who will be at NOLA Storycon.
I consistently enjoy her works – the characters, the action, the plots, BUT I always fall for the WRONG guy. It makes it hard to stay with the series. This doesn’t happen so much with other authors but so far it has happened with both of her series. Well, this Prospero’s War series isn’t complete, although the author is uncertain as to when more books will be available. And maybe there is hope for my guy? She is just horrible to him.

I listened to this on a long car trip and I really enjoyed it. It has magic which is a favorite of mine. Kate, the main character is a cop and pretty kick-ass. She has worked hard over the years to build her career while raising her younger brother. There’s lots of action and big changes happening in Dirty Magic.
Morgan Hallett has done a great job of capturing the characters style and giving me the feel of their emotions with her narration. She made it clear for me which character was speaking with the voices. It was easy to listen to the audiobook and very well done.

She is very rigid with herself. This is somewhat annoying as is her treatment of some of her allies and friends. I enjoyed the plot and the mystery and action. Morgan Hallett continues to perform well.

Finally, Kate starts to grow and learn in Deadly Spells. She begins adapting her life to the current world and situations. Kate is having to realize the world is not black and white, with layers of gray providing more difficult choices. She also has the twist of learning the past she believed was a lie.
Sadly, she still is treating “my guy” like shit, even though he states plainly he loves her. He’s not perfect but nobody is.
The series is not complete and it will be interesting to see where things go from here. The changes here set the groundwork for a new outlook for the series.

I have this series on my TBR list. I tried the audio for the first book and couldn’t get past chapter three because of the narrator. I think when I try it again I’ll read it.
I loved the dark humor that Jaye used in her Sabina Kane series and I’ve met her in person at two different book cons and she’s a hoot.
Jennifer – Really? I can understand about the narrator because some work and some don’t I guess. But I liked her. I’ve used audio to get to a book I couldn’t read and have not gone the other way yet – reading the book when I couldn’t work with the audio. I’ve also noticed when a narrator is in one series if I identify too closely with that character, it’s hard to hear them with another character / series.
It is hard to listen to a narrator do another series if you have them in your head as a character. That’s why I can’t listen to Lorelei King narrate the Mercy Thomspon series. For me, King is Charley Davidson.
But yeah I couldn’t get into the narrator. She kind of bored me. But if you ask around other audio listners, I’m known as being peaky. LOL
This sounds like a fun series.

This is a series that I’ve been wanting to try, but haven’t gotten to it yet. Your review really makes me want to move it up my list. I have read Jaye Wells before and really enjoyed it. I read the Sabina Kane series.
