Catalia "Cat" Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…

Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he's ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.

The audio was wonderful and Mia Barron captured the humor and banter so well. Her voice has an odd quality to it which took a minute to understand but then it felt right, becoming a perfect part of the experience. She did alter voices somewhat for characters but overall she was Cat’s voice and this is all Cat’s point of view.

I agree with Jennifer’s thoughts about the similarities to Kate Daniels and frustration with Cat’s immature behavior. But Cat IS young and inexperienced. She’s been through too much so I can understand her using sarcasm and childish comments as self-defense. Defense is always necessary to her.

And really who wouldn’t need it with Griffin on the scene? Can we say hot, alpha male book boyfriend material to the max? There were plenty of very arousing scenes and even the sex scenes were well-written.  Griffin became completely clear on what he wanted and how he felt about Cat. His words and actions were heart melting.

This was so much fun and I can’t wait to read Breath of Fire. I truly hope Cat continues to grow up and can be more honest with others. She has skills and intelligence. Cat needs to use them to fight for the life she wants.

About Amanda Bouchet

Amanda Bouchet grew up in New England where she spent much of her time tromping around in the woods and making up grand adventures in her head. It was inevitable that one day she would start writing them down. Drawing on her Greek heritage for the setting and on her love of all things daring and romantic for the rest, her debut trilogy, The Kingmaker Chronicles, took form. She writes what she loves to read: epic exploits, steamy romance, and characters that make you laugh and cry.

A French master’s graduate and former English teacher, Amanda lives in Paris, France. She met her husband while studying abroad, and the family now includes two bilingual children who will soon be correcting her French.
