Who is Catalia Fisa?
With the help of pivotal figures from her past, Cat begins to understand the root of her exceptional magic, her fated union with Griffin Sinta, and Griffin's role in shaping her destiny.

Only Cat holds the key to unlocking her own power, and that means finally accepting herself, her past, and her future in order to protect her loved ones, confront her murderous mother, and taking a final, terrifying step—reuniting all three realms and taking her place as the Queen of Thalyria.

What doesn't kill her will only make her stronger...we hope.

The first book in the Kingmaker Chronicles series, was quite the sensation. I reviewed Promise of Fire on audio and was excited for more. Then Jennifer had real trouble with Breath of Fire. But when the audio was available, I got it with some mixed feelings. But I loved the mythology, gods and creatures. I wanted to see what happened with the characters. The politics and battles were a suspenseful mystery.

Interestingly, each book has started with an extraordinary event and a flurry of action. This one was the best beginning. While I know very little about Greek mythology, this aspect continues to fascinate me. I enjoyed the team work Cat and Griffin have developed, now being honest with each other. The underlying theme is still reuniting the three kingdoms into one. Their strategies have some ups and downs.

Cat became a grown-up here. She finally discovered and learned herself. I felt none of the annoyance with her I did at times in the first two books.  She didn’t just immediately become knowledgeable or powerful either, she had to work at it.  It was satisfying to see her come to peace internally with her life and roles.

The plot here was twisty for me. The things I thought would happen didn’t. I must be bloodthirsty; I expected more battles. I like magic and thought there would be more.  The focus was squarely on Cat and Griffin and bringing together the three realms. The supporting characters got very little growth.  This concludes the trilogy and story arc of Thalyria unified but left me with a few questions and wanting to know more. Recommended.

About Amanda Bouchet

Amanda Bouchet grew up in New England where she spent much of her time tromping around in the woods and making up grand adventures in her head. It was inevitable that one day she would start writing them down. Drawing on her Greek heritage for the setting and on her love of all things daring and romantic for the rest, her debut trilogy, The Kingmaker Chronicles, took form. She writes what she loves to read: epic exploits, steamy romance, and characters that make you laugh and cry.

A French master’s graduate and former English teacher, Amanda lives in Paris, France. She met her husband while studying abroad, and the family now includes two bilingual children who will soon be correcting her French.

  1. Didn’t read your review, since I have this one and want everything to be a surprise. I loved book one, was a bit disappointed with the start of book 2, but still enjoyed it. Can’t wait to see what happens with Cat and Griffen and the gang plus her mother dearest. ^_^

  2. yes I did the audio for the first two. But I ended up reading this one. I enjoy the series. You’ll love it on audio.
