Karen Rose writes amazing characters grabbing my heart and stomping on it, in a world of dark, mysterious suspense. She has built a frighteningly realistic world of criminals, law enforcement, and those who help the victims. The couples in each book have struggled with their lives and careers but they fight so hard and deserve love and their happiness. I feel them all so deeply.
Every time I pick up a new book, I know it will be great. I will love the characters and their unfolding to me and their growth. The criminals will be horrifying; the cases will be clever and heartbreaking. People do get hurt and die. Our couple will win in the end; each book is a new couple. The romances are handled well, both the emotional aspects and the sexy times. I only dislike how sometimes I can’t remember things from the previous books.
Adam and Meredith are characters anyone could love. They are smart, work hard and do much to take care of others. Adam is in law enforcement and Meredith is a counselor for children and adolescents. They are part of a wide circle of friends and family in the Cincinnati part of the Romantic Suspense series, who are most often in one of those two types of jobs. Her work partner, Faith, was the main character in Closer Than You Think, which is number 16 in the series, but the first Cincinnati book. It was the first book I read in the series. I went back to read the previous 15 books. Reading them all together was awesome. It’s harder now with reading new books spaced out over their releases.
Edge of Darkness is an excellent story. It will mean more, if you read the other books and know the other characters with their quirks and humor. I highly recommend the whole series, one of my favorites in the genre. Yes, there are 20 books, 20 long books and well worth reading as they are consistently wonderful.

Meredith took the picture, her mouth curving of its own volition. Two boys in baseball uniforms stood, arms over each other’s shoulders. One dark, one light. The boy on the right was clearly Adam Kimble. He had boyish good looks even then. Both wore grass stains on their knees and huge smiles on their faces. “How old were you?”
“He was sixteen. I was almost eighteen. We were only a grade apart, though. Adam was a fair student, but I’d been held back a year in middle school, which I basically hated the world for, but it turned out okay. If I hadn’t been kept back, I would’ve graduated two years ahead of him and we wouldn’t have played for the same team in high school. Those were the good days.”
She smiled fondly at the photo. “Did you win?”
“Went to the state playoffs, but lost in the quarterfinals. Adam played another year. That year they went on to win the state championships. Adam ended up getting a baseball scholarship to college,which was good because with his grades? Well, let’s just say it was good he could hit a home run like nobody else, because he was never gonna ace math.”

I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters.The other thing I enjoy is humor.
