Megan and Cassidy were childhood sweethearts who thought they would be together forever. Fate had other plans. Soon after they were married, Cass’s life was tragically cut short. Still grieving her soul mate five years later, Megan moves to the small town of Seaside, Oregon, hoping to rebuild her life.

Her first night there, she meets the town recluse, Theo. Withdrawn, guarded, and mysteriously silent since a terrible accident left him scarred, Theo takes an instant and inexplicable dislike to Megan. But as their paths cross again and again, Megan becomes convinced there’s more to Theo than meets the eye. When she discovers the reason for his silence, his nightmares, and especially his pointed dislike, Megan becomes convinced of something far more astonishing.

Is a second chance at a once-in-a-lifetime love possible, or is a broken heart the cruelest kind of liar?

This author is a star when it comes to smart and sassy dialog. I love the way she develops her female characters to be so strong and authentic.  Megan is a widow who loved her husband pretty much her entire life. She lost him in a car crash. She has had a tough five years but decides to follow a dream her husband had of owning a B & B in a small town, Seaside, Oregon.

I enjoyed reading Midnight Valentine through the whole story.  I liked the way her relationship with Theo developed although I felt she was a little too antagonistic with him.  But that is how it starts sometimes – someone gets under your skin. Theo had his own car crash which completely changed his life. He has struggled to right his world. I liked the sort of paranormal aspect to the plot. Even the secondary characters were developed and fun, adding to the quirky, small town.

After reading, I see this is fiction which is rather unbelievable, but fun reading. Many issues could have been resolved by Theo being honest about his thoughts and feelings to Megan. But he couldn’t believe himself, why would he expect her to believe him? I guess everything takes time to unfold and develop. I hurt for what Theo suffered.  A range of emotions came through this story, Geissinger gets all the feels. I rooted for their happiness.

Giggle-worthy quotes:

I started to get irritated, because I’ve got the patience of a four-year old who’s missed a nap.

“Relax, Sunshine. The torture will be over momentarily.” I meet his gaze. “Then I’ll start the interrogation.”

    • yes, it is definitely fun / sassy. She always has great dialog and strong women. I use both romance and straight mystery or romantic suspense to change things up. I’m in a huge romantic suspense rut right now, ones that have more suspense than romance.
