Still haunted by his wife’s murder—and stained by the blood of avenging it—FBI special agent Hatcher McGee can’t believe he’s being teamed up with rookie agent Korine Davenport. She is his most guilty secret—the one-night stand who almost cost him everything.

Korine has her own demons. As a child, she witnessed her father’s murder, and she’s spent her life waiting for the killer’s return. She and Hatcher are both looking for closure, but the disturbing case that draws them together could be their last.

When the mutilated body of a corrupt Savannah judge surfaces, Hatcher and Korine find themselves on the trail of a vigilante who is showing no mercy. Not for the predators who’ve gone free. And not for anyone who gets in the way.

As the body count rises, and as Hatcher’s and Korine’s own pasts unfold, they must risk their lives tracking a killer they’ve come to understand all too well. After all, the ends justify the means.

I didn’t know this author but it is a favorite genre so I decided to try it. I am so glad I did. I could hardly stand to stop listening, and was always trying to get back to listening. The FBI cases had lots of interesting facets along with the agents’ histories, both professional and personal. The past and present wove into the twisty, dark cases in a clever and intriguing way.

I really liked Korine. She had a lot to handle with her family and her new role at the FBI. She was smart, caring with the others and handled herself well. Hatcher was less likable. I enjoyed them in the case work, but not so much in the personal side. For 90% of the story, it was lust, lust, more lust, based on a previous one night stand under poor circumstances. Hatcher tried a bit, in both words and deeds, to support Korine with her life but she shut him down promptly. View Spoiler » I didn’t want more romance but I needed more relationship development if it was headed there.

I liked Andi Arndt very well. She did a wonderful job with the voices and feelings in this story. The setting is near Savannah, GA and I LOVE the Southern lilt she gives to some voices. While normally, I listen to most audio books at 1.25, I listened at 1.0 speed. It just sounded wrong at a faster speed, possibly since a Southern drawl should be a bit more relaxed. Her performance overall allowed me to stay completely in the story.

Pretty Little Killers  is the first in The Keepers series, which is currently available in Kindle Unlimited.  I am totally wanting to continue with this series. I am baffled as to how it will progress. Will there be a different couple for each book with one of them being an FBI agent to tie into the series and provide cases?  Or will the series continue with this couple and their cases?  I can’t wait to see. Honestly, I’d be happy if it continued with this couple and focused on the cases rather than the romance because this aspect was so good. I researched and found the next title will be Good Little Girls releasing in July 2018.

About Andi Arndt

Andi’s relatively neutral US English accent is a product of a Minnesota childhood, New Jersey high school years, and Maryland/DC/Virginia adulthood. Firm grounding in both theatre and broadcasting led to full-time work in voice over.

About Rita Herron

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. Although she wanted to be a writer then and actually scrawled her first novel at age twelve, she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a kindergarten teacher instead. Ten years ago, she traded her classroom storytelling and puppets for a computer and now writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job.
Having sold over fifty books to date, she enjoys spinning spine-tingling romantic suspense tales filled with murder, mayhem, and spicy romance as well as sexy romantic comedies. Rita Herron currently writes romantic suspense for Harlequin Intrigue and she’s writing dark, gritty romantic suspense thrillers for Amazon Montlake.

    • I really enjoyed it, except for the romance. There was plenty happening without it. That’s an unusual thing for me but I could have had less romance.
