Gavin Boudreau lives for the job, but he also believes in "work hard, play harder." As the youngest guy in Ladder 37, he figures he's got plenty of time before settling down becomes a priority. Soft, pretty women who aren't looking for promises are exactly his type, and he's comfortable with that. Working with a gorgeous EMT isn't going to change who he is.

The last thing Cait Tasker needs in her personal life is a firefighter whose challenges on-scene have been a thorn in her side from minute one. Her plate's too full for a man anyway. Back in her childhood home to help her family cope with an unexpected tragedy, she's got enough to handle without throwing a hot, testosterone-laden fireman into the mix.

As long days on the job lead to long nights together, Gavin and Cait will discover how far temptation can take them-and what happens when the one you thought was all wrong for you turns out to be the person you can't live without.

I am up to date on the Boston Fire series and was excited to have the opportunity to get this on audio as I had listened to earlier books on audio also.  There is the camaraderie of the firehouse and the EMT and paramedics. It’s always good to have glimpses of couples from previous books. So the world building helps it have a community feel, even though it is set in the city of Boston.

Gavin and Cait felt so normal and realistic. They worked their jobs, and did things with their families. Their dates were rather low-key with eating out, going to walk on the beach, and going to the bar owned by a retired firefighter to hang out and play pool. They had sexy times which gave me more of a slow burn than a 5 alarm fire.

Cait had some family issues since she was living with her widowed mother and teenage half-brother. Gavin fretted over becoming committed a tiny bit and also about meeting each others’ families. I think the emotions and compromises of becoming a couple were to be expected, although they each had their own specific issues.  I loved the humor in the dialogue at times.  It was great!  I’m happy to see two more books in the series with the next coming out in August.

Narration:

I have enjoyed the voices Tatiana Sokolov has given this series. I listened at 1.25 speed which was good. The male and female voices were comfortably suitable.  I did notice more of a Boston accent this time, especially with Cait.

About Shannon Stacey

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her two favorite activities are writing stories of happily ever after and riding her four-wheeler. From May to November, the Stacey family spends their weekends on their ATVs, making loads of muddy laundry to keep Shannon busy when she’s not at her computer. She prefers writing to laundry, however, and considers herself lucky she got to be an author when she grew up.

    • Thank you Angela! You are always such a wonderful supporter. I enjoy this series and it is all available at my library on audiobook, which is how I started it. When I knew I liked it, as with most things then I could start reviewing / buying.

Yea! I really love this series. and I agree – one of the best things about this title is how normal Cait and Gavin are. It’s nice when drama and conflict isn’t unrealistic and a couple just works through things!

    • Thanks Jen! I also agreed with your point about how they create a community in a large city. It’s a really good series and I feel fortunate I’ve been able to listen to all of it on audiobook.
