When Ethan Bishop returns to the Hudson Valley, his body and spirit are a little worse for wear. As a former Special Forces paratrooper, he saw his fair share of conflict, and he came home with wounds, inside and out. At his sisters’ B & B and farm, he can keep all his pain at a safe distance. But quiet time isn’t easy when a fiery woman explodes into his life…

It’s business—not pleasure—that brings Manhattan PR agent Mia Thrush reluctantly to the farm. Tightly wound and quick tempered, Mia clashes immediately with the brooding Ethan. Everything about him is irritating—from his lean muscles and piercing blue eyes to his scent of sweat and musk.

But as the summer unfolds and temperatures rise, Ethan and Mia discover how much they have in common: their guarded histories, an uncontrollable desire, and a passion for the future that could heal two broken hearts. But will their pasts threaten their fragile chance at a brand-new future?

I was happy to start a new series from Jennifer Probst called Stay.  It features a family of siblings living in the country on a farm which rescues horses and has a bed & breakfast.  Each of these young adults, now in their late twenties to mid-thirties had aspirations to get away from the farm and do big things. Now they seem to be coming home.

The Start of Something Good is about Ethan Bishop. He had physical injuries from his special forces / body-guarding career and can no longer do it. He comes back to his horse whisperer roots.   Mia is a fast-paced city girl on the way up with her business. She is here, rather unwillingly, to supervise Chloe who is here to do community service.

Ethan and Mia clash.  They have a love-hate sort of attraction. They snark with each other, having bets and dares. I thought they fell into bed too quickly. But it did get them to the point where they were more open with each other. Everything was better once they got real, honest with themselves and each other.  Both are compassionate people who care about others.  I loved Chloe and what she added to the story.

Both Ethan and Mia grow and learn to deal with their issues having someone who not only “sees” the real person but cares. When Mia went back to the city and they did a long distance relationship, there was more tell than show. Chloe’s father seemed a bit of a cliche, and not as well developed as he could be.  Overall a good start to the series, I’ll be looking forward to A Brand New Ending in October, which is about Ophelia who runs the B&B.

Narration:

I was excited to get my first listen of Sebastian York as friends have raved about him. I thought he was good but I think I’m stuck on Steve West.  I thought both York and Maby did a fine job with all their voices and the performance gave me the emotional ride I enjoy.  I listened at 1.25x speed.

I do like the premise of the family coming home, working with the animals, and the early antagonism between this pair. I’ve listened to Sebastian York once and liked his work, but like you, not quite ready to rave about it yet. LOL

    • Yes it was a fun contemporary romance in the country with growth for the characters and not a horrible amount of angst.

  2. Melliane

it looks like a good one there! I heard about this one auhor but I haven’t tried any of her books

I think that I have several of Probst’s books but haven’t read any yet. This sounds like a great romance. I do like York’s narration but haven’t listened to him in a while.

    • I’ve also read her Searching For series and Billionaire Builders series. My fave is the Searching For series but she does a better than average job with all her books I’ve read.
