Bodyguard Jock Bosh has one job: keep Fiona Madden safe. Safe from the men who've been hunting her. Safe from the bastard responsible for ruining her life. And with the attraction sizzling white-hot between them, that means keeping Fiona safe from him too.

Fiona has spent the past decade on the run. Her survival is the single greatest weapon she's had against the men out to destroy her. Until Jock. Now, with him by her side, she finally has a chance to bring them down. But when her enemies make their next move and Jock puts himself in the line of fire, Fiona realizes that there's more at stake than just her life-she's also risking her heart

I think hackers will be a really important factor in the world going forward. So this genre is a natural choice, with my nerd side loving technical aspects.  In the previous book, Zero Hour, I felt the characters needed more development and some of the common sense was lacking. But I attributed this to a large project broken up between multiple people, so naturally some things got lost in the coordination.

I liked the idea for this new series, Wired & Dangerous, with hackers, full of suspense and with a bit of romance.  The problem I’m having is the hacking part is more told than shown. We get the results in information but no real details.

Darkest Night did focus more on two characters rather than a whole group. Particularly, Fiona was a key. She had a rough background and a life of hiding.  Jock comes to watch her from the background since there has been a new threat. The start is all Fiona in her day to day life and natural paranoia.  Once Jock starts interacting with her, things pick up because the threat is happening.

At this point, the whole team joins in and of course, not everything goes according to plan. The setup was pretty good, not too stupid at all. Fiona is so brave and smart. She has learned from her past experiences.  The bad guys are just really BAD.

Again, even though they have money, and talk about disappearing, they don’t do it quickly.  They had to know even if they got most of the bad guys, there would still be threats so they should have been better prepared to leave and not had to go back to their regular place.

These books are a fun, exciting read but I wanted more focus on the technical details and those pieces of the battle.  It is nice to have some romance since it heightens the feelings for all involved.  So the big bad is still out there, perhaps he will move out of the background in Final Day to be published October 16, 2018.

About Megan Erickson

Megan Erickson is a USA Today bestselling author of romance that sizzles. Her books have a touch of nerd, a dash of humor, and always have a happily ever after. A former journalist, she switched to fiction when she decided she likes writing her own endings better.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her very own nerdy husband and two kids. Although rather fun-sized, she’s been told she has a full-sized personality. When Megan isn’t writing, she’s either lounging with her two cats named after John Hughes characters or… thinking about writing.

I agree about the hacking being a relevant element in a romantic suspense these days. I haven’t picked up this series, but I do like the author’s writing. Glad the second book settled into a good plot and the heroine was a smart one.
    Enjoyed your review, Anne!

    • Thanks Sophia! This is the first series I have read from this author, but I’m enjoying it.

it’s always nice to have a suspense series like that from time to time.

    • Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres, or ways to read romance. It has something happening besides the romance.

I have only read a couple of Megan Erickson’s novels but have enjoyed them. I like the idea of hacking being a big part of the story but too bad you don’t get to see more of it happening. Great review!
