The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.
This week was like another staycation, except I worked a shorter shift on Wednesday. I needed it to clear things up and prepare for the crazy week next week will be. My daughter is in Illinois and then Minnesota visiting relatives and friends.
Friday night I went to the only concert I planned for this summer – Keith Urban. I saw him 2 years ago also and he does a great show. I was surprised to find my seat was on the aisle. When he went by to go to the lawn for a couple songs, he reached out and touched my hand!
The past two weeks the ARC gods have blessed me with bounty. Also, there have been a huge number of sales and deals and even a giveaway. I’m reading and listening with joy!
I’ve been trying to figure out the deal with comments on the blog. It is supposed to let comments through, without moderation, after you have had 2 approved but it’s not working. I’m going to try some things, hopefully then it will at least give you a message when your comment is awaiting moderation. I hope the change works.
This week to prepare for a big work week, I’ve shopped for good foods which are quick to fix after work, or things to pack for lunch. I also managed to get all the posts for the next 7 days all set, plus I’ve created the shells for the ARCs I have through September. This should give me a little breathing space if I am working more.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week:
Phantom Kiss by Chloe Neill Inside the Echo by Jen Blood Ravencry by Ed McDonald
The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal Stud in the Stacks by Pippa Grant
Exile of the Seas by Jeffe Kennedy The Voodoo Killings by Kristi Charish
Phantom Kiss and Inside the Blood are part of series I have read and were on a publishers list of new releases I might request to review. I’ve already listened to both and written my reviews!!! Ravencry I requested 2-3 months ago on Netgalley and had practically given up hope I would receive it. The Calculating Stars was offered by a new contact at a new publisher, and I am no good at refusing new reading material. Stud in the Stacks was offered to me by the narrator, who is a lovely person, and it really sounds like a fun book. I was thrilled to receive Exile of the Seas in a Goodreads giveaway. Then I bookmail arrived, The Voodoo Killings, a paperback from the publisher which an author had asked me to review.
First, I had my audible coupon for $10 to use. Then I had my order from Audiobookstand closing sale arrive. I bought ones to fill out series I am collecting.
Artificial Condition by Martha Wells Cat Tats by Faith Hunter
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors Dead Heat
Second Grave on the Left Haunted Destiny Dark Rites Fade to Black
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know. I work odd hours with no access to phone or Internet so sometimes I’m not around to approve comments right away. I work today and every day through next Saturday so I won’t be around very much this week.

The Voodoo Killings and Phantom Kiss look awesome! Will definitely keep an eye out for them when they release.
Glad you had a great time at the Keith Urban concert. It’s been years since I’ve been to one but I always loved the atmosphere at them. 🙂
Nicci, Phantom Kiss has been out a couple years in ebook, the audio is what just released. I finished it and my review will be next Saturday. The Voodoo Killings is also available now. The author was kind enough to offer me both the first book and the second book for review along with a guest post. My reviews are scheduled in October and November, as the second book will be released January 2019. Thanks for visiting.
Sounds like a nice week, Anne! I love getting a calm week to reset and also get set up for the next week. And look at all the fun books you scored. Happy reading and listening.
My haul is over the top this week! And I sucked at Hurricane Berls becaause the stuff I need to read are ARCS I got after June 9. Also I seemed to get more audio time the last couple days. Enjoy your reading week!. Thanks for visiting.
Oh many great things for you there! Happy reading and have a lovely week!
Thank you! I hope you have a great reading week also.
I am so envious of your concert with Keith Urban! Love his music…and his wife, Nicole Kidman.
I get frustrated when I leave a comment and nothing happens. If a message appears about comment moderation, it’s all good.
Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
The comments make me crazy. I don’t know if anyone is getting a awaiting moderation message or not. And there are people who comment twice and then don’t have to be moderated and there are subscribers who have commented like 80 times!!! and it still makes me moderate them.
I hope you have a great week and thanks for subscribing to the blog.
Oh, you got The Calculating Stars! I so want to read that. I requested the ARC but it’s still pending, so I probably won’t get it.
I’m glad you had a light week. Nice book haul, too! And well done getting so far ahead on the blog. I am just trying to catch up on reviews, let alone get ahead. I got into a real reviewing slump for a good part of spring and summer, but I think I’m finally coming out of it.
I just have to do what I can when I can. I’m trying to created the draft layout of posts at the time I get the ARC so it’s ready whenever I finish reading. It’s especially great when I have a hectic week like this one. One day down, six to go. But today went well so that’s a plus. Sometimes it’s a hectic rush at work and I come home frazzled.
I’m excited to be on the new publisher’s review team and get Calculating Stars – it’s an audio version. I’m overrun with audios but it’s going well. I’ve already listened to 2 audio ARCS I got this week and have written the reviews so it’s not so horrible I requested so many, and then got offered more. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week.
The comment moderation thing is a mystery. It has never worked for me either. So I gave up 😀 it randomly spams some, some people it just spams all the time, it’s really a mystery.
The Calculating Stars is such an awesome book though! You won’t regret it 🙂
I’m glad I’m not alone. It’s one of those things I just can’t seem to figure out. I feel bad when it doesn’t give a message and I’m at work for 9 hours with no access to Internet or phones, so people think it just lost their comment. UGH. I was excited to get The Calculating Stars; it’s on audio and I got offered without requesting. It was recorded by Audible and I just got connected with someone there to review for them. Thanks for visiting.
Oh, I don’t think you should worry about this – because I sometimes fail to answer comments for a week… Everyone knows we are busy when we’re working and can’t always be online to manage things. I don’t think anyone would hold it against you 🙂
yes, I know. I wouldn’t expect it of anyone else. Only myself. I have impossible standards for myself.
Very nice book haul. I hope you enjoy all new editions. That’s great you got to go to a concert.
Have a great week and happy reading!!
Thanks Angela! I hope you have a great reading week. I updated my June library books yesterday but I might fit in a bit more.
That concert sounds like fun. I don’t have comment moderation on my site because it was too much of a hassle. The only problems I’ve had with un-moderated comments are robots posting links to porn and gambling sites on my blog. I delete them pretty quickly when they’re posted. I doubt anybody has seen them, but it’s annoying. Have a good week!
Thanks for visiting! I may have to consider the no moderation; it is making me a bit nuts.
Keith Urban! That would be fun! Glad you got to see him up close.
I thought Artificial Condition was so good! Love that series…
Thanks Greg! I’m loving Murderbot. I’m reviewing Artificial Condition 8/4 and Rogue Protocol on 8/16. The publisher is providing me with a review copy of Rogue Protocol. Woot!
I love music but concerts can be exhausting, lines, parking traffic, etc. I still try to go to some. One of my favorite things was at the Harley – Davidson 110th Anniversary. They had music as part of your ticket. I heard Lynard Skynrd (spelling?) The Doobie Brothers, and some of the groups from Sons of Anarchy – The White Buffalo and The Forest Rangers. It was the best. This year I didn’t feel like they were having anyone I wanted to hear. Anyway, maybe now that I live in the south (NC) instead of MN maybe I’ll try CMA fest in Nashville. I like some country music now. Keith Urban is one reason. I also love jazz, blues, rock, classical. Most things other than heavy metal. I need more melody than that and words other than obscenities. lol I’ve been at motorcycle rallies where it was heavy metal like that.
I love a good concert too. I used to go to a lot of rock shows but it’s so expensive now and I’m not 20 anymore. 🙂 That Harley-Davidson show sounds good! CMA would be nice too. I like country music more now that I’m older. And I’ve even found myself appreciating jazz, which surprises me! I do like some hard rock bands but I draw the line when they’re just screaming and it’s just noise lol.
Congrats on the Rogue Protocol review copy! Can’t wait to see what you think of those.
It is always fun to get a suprise close encounter with an artist at a concert. I have had a couple of surprises like that over the years and it just adds to the enjoyment. You got some nice new books this week. I was approved for Ravencry on NetGalley as well and hope to get started on that series soon. Have a great week!
It is fun. I went to see Chicago years ago and the trombone player – James Pankow threw out his towel and I still have that. lol Ravencry and Blackwing before it are grimdark. Do not expect sunshine and unicorns and rainbows. I liked Blackwing . Anne – Books of My Heart
