This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.

The genre here, by my definition,  is space opera which is a sub-genre to science fiction.  It’s always hard to narrow down to favorites. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.

My favorite  Space Opera series are (in no particular order):

The Lost Fleet series                              Linesman series                                  Murderbot Diaries series
by Jack Campbell                                     by SK Dunstall                                       by Martha Wells

Evargardian series                                   The Expanse series                                      Ringworld series
by Sean Danker                                          by James SA Corey                                     by Larry Niven

What are your favorite series?

Vote for your top 3 favorites! You can vote for my favorites or add favorites of your own. Please tell us your top three (or top 1 or 2) in your comments.  Remember this is how the winning option is chosen for the giveaway.

Then enter the giveaway below.  The winner will get the first book in the winning series! Open to anyone who can receive an Amazon digital ebook.

  1. Love Space Opera! Though I don’t read it as much as other genres.
Sean Denker’s Evagardian series is a fav. I love the intrigue and tight suspenseful action on it.
RM Meluch’s Tour of the Merrimack is military space opera, but I loved several unique aspects including the quirky characters and the action.
And, a few that I’ve only read one or two, but still really enjoyed: John Scalzi’s The Collapsing Empire, Linnea Sinclair’s Games of Command.

    • I totally love space opera. I used to read it a lot during college and then I stopped for some reason. Really I got busy and the only thing I read for about 10 years or so was mysteries. I have some of the John Scalzi space stuff but have yet to read it. I like the military / politics and the battle strategies but also the exploration sorts of things.

    • Well things with ships in space. I haven’t read the one you mention. It looks like Goodreads classes it as science fiction. From the descriptions, maybe, there are ships but the invasions are more of the planets. So I am sure there are many good ones besides these. They are just the ones I read and loved.

  2. I haven’t read too many books that would be considered space operas. I did read the first book in the Sirentha Jax series by Ann Aguirre and loved it. The Evargardian series was really good and I have had my eye on the Martha Wells series since everyone seems to be loving it.
