When firefighter and single dad Steve Springfield moved his four kids to a Colorado Christmas tree ranch, he intended for it to be a safe haven. But he never expected danger to follow them to his childhood home...

Or that he would come face-to-face with the one girl he could never forget.

Folk artist Camille Brandt lives a quiet life. As the town's resident eccentric, she's used to being lonely--until Steve freaking Springfield changes everything. Brave and kind, he's always had a piece of her heart, and it doesn't take long before she's in danger of falling for him and his rambunctious kids. But as mysterious fires break out across the sleepy Colorado town, Steve and Camille will have to fight if they want their happy family to survive until Christmas..

OMG. Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas is the best holiday book I’ve ever read. I have a new understanding of awkward and embarrassed or introvert. Also, these people have a proper appreciation for bacon.

The world is similar but not exactly the same as other romantic suspense by this author. It is set in a small Colorado town. The characters are so well developed. I feel as though I know them and love or avoid them accordingly.  The children and animals play important roles as well. I LOVE when they do.

The best thing is there IS a plot beyond the romance. Even within the romance, there are the layers of people learning about themselves, the couple and their family. The icing on the cake –  is it is hilarious.  Highly recommended.

I told Steve Springfield the story of my first period. There was no other option. Camille was going to have to move.

She gave them a little wave and then settled into her seat between Steve and Micah, who sat hunched forward, gripping his program a little too tightly. Leaning into him, she murmured, “How much do you want to run out of here right now?”

He sent her a sideways look before refocusing on his crumpled program. “A lot.”

“I thought about sitting out in the truck for the whole thing, but I figured I’d get pretty cold out there for an hour.”

He snorted and tilted the program so she could see the list of performances… the long list. “Two.”

“Two… hours?” Why couldn’t she be in the shop, alone, working on Steve’s Christmas present right now?

“Yep. Sometimes longer.” He looked slightly less hunched, and one corner of his mouth had turned up. Camille was glad her misery had made him feel better. “I’ve been to lots of these.”

“Do they at least have cookies at intermission?”

About Katie Ruggle

A fan of the old adage “write what you know”, Katie Ruggle lived in an off-grid, solar- and wind-powered house in the Rocky Mountains until her family lured her back to Minnesota. When she’s not writing, Katie rides horses, shoots guns (not while riding, although that would be awesome), cross-country skis (badly) and travels to warm places where she can scuba dive. A graduate of the Police Academy, Katie received her ice-rescue certification and can attest that the reservoirs in the Colorado mountains really are that cold. A fan of anything that makes her feel like a bad-ass, she has trained in Krav Maga, boxing and gymnastics.

  1. Wonderful review. I’ll have to check this one out. I love when we get kids and single dads always make me swoon. ^_^

  2. I’ve seen so many raves for Katie Ruggle’s books, it’s surprising I haven’t read one yet. This one sounds very tempting, particularly because there’s humor as well as holiday spirit. Looks like my library has the ebook, so I’ll try to read it during Christmas break. Great review!

    • They are all set in Colorado. They all are a sort of romantic suspense which I like with a plot in addition to the romance. I’ve read one of the other two series and only the first book in the other one, so far. I just love the way she defined the characters – it was so real. Who hasn’t thought – I’d rather stay home? The kids and animals are an important facet also.

  3. I haven’t tried anything by Katie Ruggle yet, but I seem to be collecting her books to read. LOL This sounds so good! I am glad you enjoyed it, Anne! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this one.

  4. Ruggle is one of those authors I collect but haven’t read yet. Sigh. I love that her stories are set in Colorado – where I live – and this one’s small town setting is right up my alley. I also appreciate there being a plot beyond the romance. 😉 Great review, Anne!

    • Thanks Brandee! I love the setting. The author has 3 series. I have read all of one and part of the other. I really enjoy her books. This one is a total winner for me. The characters’ emotions are just so realistic! I hope you love them as I do.

    • I don’t know if you have read any of her other series but you wouldn’t need them to read this. It’s the first in a new location. The personalities are just awesome.

So I’m trying things and learning things about the comments. Obviously, the change I made to add a check box didn’t work since I still had to approve you. You have 107 approved comments, and you are only supposed to need 2 approved to stop needing approval. Someone said it might be related to commentluv, which probably only works if the other person has a WordPress blog too.

I’ve been loving her romantic suspense stories. I haven’t seen this one come through on audio. I’m not a big fan of cowboy romance. I have requested her new bounty hunter series. Glad you enjoyed it.
