She belonged to his best friend.

Molly Boyd’s entire world unraveled when tragedy turned the man she loved into her greatest threat, and now her confusing feelings for his best friend aren’t helping matters. For years Jase has been a solid, steady source of comfort and friendship. Now she can’t stop seeing him as something more. And just as she’s wrestling with her shifting feelings, a new danger from her ex’s past threatens everything.

But she’s always been the one.

Jase Weaver is an expert at unrequited love. Years ago he stood by and watched his best friend marry the woman of his dreams, and he’s endured his suffering in silence ever since. But when Carter’s self-destructive tailspin threatened Molly, Jase stepped in to make her safe. Now he can’t stay silent any longer. He’s wanted Molly forever and it’s time she knows it. So when a new threat against her emerges, Jase will put his own life on the line to protect her, no matter the cost.

Continuing the Crimson Point series, I knew we would get the story of Jase and Molly. Jase has been in love with Molly since he met her, but Molly married his best friend, who is now dead.  I was excited to get their story.

Shattered Vows  has great characters, multiple things happening in their lives, the great connection of the retired military guys and the growing friendship between their families and friends. I knew there would be a huge emotional outpouring with Carter’s death. Molly still loved him but couldn’t trust him. Somehow I expected the story to be about all these emotional aspects and her pregnancy.

But this is romantic suspense, so a threat from Carter's past jumps up to make more trouble for Molly. It did add suspense. I thought the guys and friends handled everything extremely well to keep Molly protected.  But I felt a little like it distracted from the feelings and depth of these characters, while providing more action.
I liked Molly and Jase.  Jase was the BEST guy, handling everything in the most comfortable and pleasant way for Molly, even if she didn't want to spend time with him. Molly had so much to handle between work, pregnancy, money issues, family issues and now Jase's interest. I understand it was tough but I wish she could have been more honest with Jase, telling him she needed more time rather than letting him feel rejected at times.

The story wraps up at breakneck pace and I already plan to read Rocky Ground which was nicely set up here. It will be released March 26, 2019.

  1. I’m glad this next one was a hit, too. Jase sounds like a great guy. Tough situation for both of them.
    Enjoyed your review, Anne!

    • Kaylea Cross is a Canadian author who writes primarily romantic suspense, normally about military types. I enjoy all her series. I started with a Kindle freebie from her Titanium Security series and continue to read her books. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genre. If you like it, I would give her a try especially if you can get the first book of some of the series as a freebie to get you started. Right now, there is also a Kindle Freebie – Feel the Heat – which has book 2 of her DEA Fast series, along with 9 other full books by romantic suspense authors.

    • This author is great. You could try the series which start with freebies first, the older series.

I’m glad to see you again but I hope you pace yourself. Every day is different. Last week I couldn’t get to all the Sunday posts and this week I have almost read all of them. I am dying to read The Hollow of Fear and wish it would come up for me at the library soon.
