This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.

The genre here, by my definition,  is series where the main character(s) are Assassins.  These are some of my favorites  Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities.  I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.

My favorite Assassins series are (in no particular order):

Farseer                                             Throne of Glass series                     Elemental Assassin series
by Robin Hobb                                   by Sarah J. Maas                                 by Jennifer Estep

Asiana series                                         The Nevernight Chronicle                   His Fair Assassins
by Rati Mehrotra                                   by Jay Kristoff                                      by Robin LaFevers

I have loved throne of glass and I’m looking forward to reading some of the other series you have mentioned here. Thanks for the info!

  2. Jasmine Breeden

The Elemental Assassin series is fantastic. I’ve just started the Throne of Glass series and I like it. Waiting for the next one at the library

  3. wow it’s difficult for me to find a series. Did you try the one by Mark Lawrence? Gray sister? I think it’s book 2 but I think it could work out. I love this series! Otherwise, difficult for me and my memory to think of one. I have Shaede of Gray maybe by Amanda Bonilla but it’s UF.

    • UF is fine and Shaedes of Gray would certainly be an option for this list. I enjoy those. I kind of forgot as they were a few years back since I read one. I love the Mark Lawrence books. Red Sister is an assassin but so much more. Also could be on this list. Both choices I have read and enjoyed.

  4. At first, I would have said that I only read one Assassins themed series, His Fair Assassins. But then I thought of the Mark Lawrence trilogy Book of the Ancestor (if trilogies count), Jane Seville’s Zero at the Bone series, and then Michelle Mannon’s Deadliest Lies. I’ve read series that have assassins in them like Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instincts, Jessica Clare’s Hitman series, Tori St. Claire’s Black Opals.
So, apparently, I’ve read a few more than I thought. LOL

    • Surprising isn’t it when you start thinking of it? I would include those. I love the Mark Lawrence trilogy but I think of them as more than assassins. I guess the Red Sisters are assassins and Nona is more than one thing. I forgot about Killer Instincts by Elle Kennedy but are the men the main characters or the women or both? I love that series though. I haven’t read the others. Well this is all for fun. I was going for series with the main character is an assassin. I hope you picked your favorites and voted. Thanks for stopping by.

    • Robin recommended Grave Mercy (the nun assassins which I’m just finishing and I LOVE it. These are all highly recommended. Thrones of Glass is amazing. I have them all on audio and am just starting the series. The Farseer books are also absolutely amazing I have listened to a few (another 20-30 hour each) and I’m collecting them on audio also, even though they have a bunch of different narrators.

I absolutely LOVE the Elemental series by Jennifer Estep !! Any of her series are great reads. The Elementals are so relatable and fun. Gin is the perfect deadly assassin who has elemental powers and her career starts as just making money a lot of money. But when she retires things slowly change and her ” jobs” are about saving her friends.
