Sometimes falling is the safest step to take.

Chloe Reardon has a problem, and his name is Gavin Wallace.

Okay, Gavin isn’t exactly a problem, unless you consider a highly attractive wind vampire with dubious intentions a problem. Especially if that vampire is your boss. With an affinity for kilts and excellent taste in music.

But none of that matters because Chloe Reardon has had enough of dangerous men. Danger is overrated. Danger is the opposite of sexy. So Gavin is the last man—or vampire—on earth she needs to let into her heart.

Except what if the most dangerous man you knew was also the one who made you feel the strongest?

The Elemental Legacy builds upon the very beginning which is Elemental Mysteries and then the Elemental World.  I would classify Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy as urban fantasy as they deal with one couple primarily, whereas Elemental World is more paranormal romance with a different couple or character in each book.

You could read just Elemental Legacy but being the OCD reader I am, I would start with Mysteries, then World, then Legacy.   But I would really just read them all as they are great!   I do not think this would be easy to read as a standalone.

The Devil and the Dancer is a novella, under 100 pages.   There have been glimpses of Gavin and Chloe, and their relationship in the World and Legacy series.  I am so happy to have this story I didn’t even know I wanted until recently. Chloe is an old girlfriend of Ben’s and now she lives with Ben and Tenzin, assisting Tenzin.  She also works for Gavin at his bar.

So without spoiling the book,  as with any couple, there are trust issues. Also, as with any human and vampire couple, there are things to decide.  Chloe was abused in a previous relationship.  I’m not sure Gavin has ever loved anyone.

Elizabeth Hunter writes the very best emotional reality in relationships. The feelings are so authentic. There is a bit of humor and a happy ending.

“This one.” She held up her tablet and turned it back on. The image of a sleek black cat appeared. “Pete is a neutered male, two years young, looking for his forever home. An American shorthair that likes his humans affectionate and his whiskey neat. He’s a well-traveled former rogue who likes heights and being scratched behind the ears.”

“Fucking hell,” Gavin muttered. “It’s me in cat form. Do you think he really likes whiskey?”

  1. It’s been so long since I haven’t read any of her books but I used to love them a lot so I’m curious!!!

    • Her books are amazing. She is indie and well-loved. I wouldn’t start with the novella. I would start at the beginning of the Elemental Mysteries with A Hidden Fire or Cambio Springs with Shifting Dreams or Irin Chronicles with The Scribe. These are at one of my libraries but I don’t believe they are widespread at libraries. I hope you get a chance to try her. You’d like the historical aspects of the Elemental Mysteries or Irin Chronicles. Cambio Springs is my favorite though.
