The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
I forgot to mention that the previous week we also went to the thrift shop for jeans. I had 3 pairs of jeans, but one wore through into holes, and one got bleach spatters while cleaning. Those are now my cleaning jeans. One pair of jeans is not sufficient. I was really happy we each got a few pairs for $2 a pair!!
This week started out very well. The weather was pretty good. On Monday, we got my daughter signed up for a program so she can register earlier for classes. She’s doing the 2 year associates degree which will transfer to the 4 year college when she is ready. I called the new gastro and they had all the records finally. But the calendar is full through June, and the July calendar is not open yet. More Grrr. We are on the wait list for cancellations.
I finally found a GF bagel I can stand – Trader Joe’s blueberry. Not that I should be eating tons of carbs. But the others I have tried taste like sawdust (Canyon and Udi) I got some Glutino English muffins to try next. Last Sunday, I woke up too early at 5 am so I went to the farmer’s market for strawberries and asparagus. Then I got the grill tank filled because it was empty. Today (Saturday) I made more of my daughter’s favorite soup, and also we had some fresh Cod with asparagus.
Tuesday, for 8:30-11pm, I did the hand sewing of the binding for the charity quilt. So on Wednesday, we went back to the dog quilt squares and again we were able to make 4 squares. We have 14 squares completed and need to make 11 more. Then we will be ready to start the sashing. I’m also about 80% finished with my daughter’s next slouch hat, so I should have photos of it next week.
Thursday, we were home all day and I finally finished up the taxes paperwork. It makes my head hurt. You have to know all the rules for everything to figure out the best handling of your finances. For example, I used to convert my IRA to Roth IRA to recognize income, when we had large home mortgage interest deductions. Now home mortgage interest is not deductible anymore, so the strategy would be totally different.
Friday, after my daughter’s class, we ran a couple errands and it was nearly 4 when we got home. I was so tired; I gave up and crawled into bed and slept 5-8pm! Of course, then I was up late reading. Yesterday (Saturday) has been writing reviews for all the stuff I read this week. Today, I still have a few to write and some to setup. I still have half of my March challenges to update. My daughter has a social activity and then at night there is a school event at JC Penney’s on business clothes and hair.
How do I do it?
I have so many questions to fix up things on the blog. Many are graphics oriented since I am graphics challenged. So I will ask a questions here each week and see if you have any suggestions to help me. Also if you have any questions, ask in the comments and I will try to answer or ask your questions.
I think I found the WordPress plugin where you can create a tweet in the middle of your post, but I have yet to figure out how it works. If you have any tips for me, please comment.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week:
Famous Dishes from Around the World Holy Sister
Oh I am happy with these review copies! Thank you so much Moonstone Press, Recorded Books, Thea Harrison, Tantor Audio.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.
Anne
I loved Holy Sister! Happy reading!
Me too! I went back and read Bound since I forgot to read it before even though I had it. *head desk*
I buy almost all of my clothes from the thrift store or through threadup online. If you just take the time to wade through the piles, you can brand new clothes that would have cost five times more at the mall. Happy reading!
My daughter and I love thrift shopping. It really helps the budget and the selection is much more eclectic than what one finds at stories. We even like to do it on vacation too.
Thrift stores are a fantastic place to find jeans, from nearly-new to nicely-broken-in. And I sometimes stumble across other finds serendipitously, as well.
I’m glad your quilting and crafting are going well, and hope you have a wonderful week, both in reading and in everything else!
Thank you! It’s so busy because there is just so much I want to do! Have an awesome week yourself.
I went to the thrift store this weekend and nabbed some shorts and jeans. I love searching through everything. LOL You have had a busy week. I don’t know how you do it!
Well, right now I have the advantage I’m not working on my feet 30 hours a week. But to go to the appointments for my daughter’s therapy and her college stuff I needed to be available. Luckily we have the option. Thank you for all your kind support!
Thrift stores are great for finding clothes. I remember when I first had my daughter we went to a thrift store called Savers and I found a bunch of baby clothes and blankets for a dime a piece. You can’t beat those prices.
I LOVE LOVE Savers! There’s a big one in Bloomington MN which is the best. We don’t have it in NC. I was thinking this morning when we go on our trip at the end of May we need to find one. I got tons of my daughter’s baby clothes and stuff at garage sales. Have a wonderful week!
My daughter is on a gluten/dairy free diet and it’s so hard to find carbs that taste good! I’ll definitely check out the Trader Joe’s Bagels. Do you have any recommendations for good tasting pasta and sandwich bread? We still need to do our taxes 🙁 I grabbed Emma Chase’s Royally Screwed! Congrats on this new journey with your daughter! I loved college, and started at a JC before I transferred to a 4 year university also. Happy Reading!
Thank you! Yes but you will need to check they are dairy free as well. And everyone likes different stuff. I subscribe to the emails from Nicole Hunn of Gluten-free on a Shoestring which Carole recommended. She is doing reviews of products now also but different things are available in different areas. I find Trader Joe’s has lots of good things. We like their bread with the green wrapper best or the cinnamon raisin (purple), next best in Schaar. I tried to make my own but it just never was right. We didn’t like the TJ pumpkin pancake mix even though we like pumpkin stuff. We like their chocolate cupcakes. 🙂
We are actually trying to cut back on carbs in general. For pasta, the best one for us is Barilla. It has corn and rice which seems to be less starchy to make. We can get it at Walmart or Amazon. We use their no bake lasagna noodles also, although I use zucchini for some of the layers instead of noodles.
We get most of our stuff at Harris Teeter, Walmart or Amazon. Every Walmart is different though. Ours has a nice little GF section, some don’t have any at all. Harris Teeter has a section plus some mixed into the regular sections. Aldi’s has a surprisingly great selection of things too. Whole Foods has things but is usually more expensive. We are in NC. Good Luck!
Nice deals at the thrift store! It’s been a while since I’ve been to a farmer’s market but you mentioning it definitely has me itching to go. I loved Royally Screwed by Emma Chase. The whole series is so good!
We love to thrift shop. It’s a bit early so the farmer’s market had somewhat limited local stuff. There was also kale and spinach and I love those but I already had some at home.
I love it when an author I know and enjoy puts a first of a series as a freebie!
Sounds like you had a busy day. Thrift stores can be so much fun. Enjoy your books and have a great week!
Thanks! Every day is a busy day, right?
Finding good carb replacements is TOUGH without gluten. Gluten is what makes bread good and chewy. I haven’t found many acceptable replacements. I gave up years ago!
Enjoy your books and I hope there is a cancellation at the gastro so your daughter can get in sooner. July is a long time to wait!
It is tough so I just decided I don’t need carbs. lol My daughter really loves pasta and that is actually pretty good. I hope we can get her in sooner too. They say they’ll call with a cancellations but I don’t know if I believe them.
Sounds like you had a good week. Hoping for a cancellation for you and your daughter. Also, congrats on finding jeans so reasonable. I finally found some this year that were the right length for me. Being short is sometimes horrible. We stayed up so late Friday and Saturday watching Netflix. Much later than we should have 🙂
I know I was thrilled to find ones that fit and were so cheap. I sew so I can modify something simple like length. I stay up too late reading. Especially if I feel like I have had no time to myself or I’ve been on the run, then I stay up a bit to have some time. Have a great week!
I tried to take a nap today, then my brother called. It’s okay though. It was good to talk to him. Have a great week.

Thanks! I hope you have a really good week. I think it’s going to be another busy one and we’re going to get more rain. BUT I’m caught up a bit on reviews so I’m less stressed.
We like the Cayon bagels. We don’t get them often but we do like them. I do love finding what I need at the thrift store. You can’t beat $2 for a pair of jeans. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
I was majorly excited that the jeans were at that price and we each found about 3 pairs. I hope you are having a great week and getting in some relaxing and reading.
A really busy week for you! Glad there were some positives in it for you.
All the Water 8n the World sounds emotional.
Have a great reading week 🙂
Shelleyrae @ Book’d Out- MY POST
Thanks. Busy can be good as it means I got more accomplished.
Wow, can’t beat those great thrift store deals. The farmers market here doesn’t open for the year for another few weeks but I can’t wait. What they have is so much better than what’s at the grocery stores.
I love my thrift shopping. Yes I also love the way it smells at the farmer’s market with all the fresh produce. Our is open year round but I don’t go as much in the winter months. It definitely had a small selection compared to what will be available later this month up to December.
I need to read some Brenda Novak books. Enjoy your week, and I love 5 star reads.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I’ve gotten more and more fussy about contemporary romance and she is one I will read. She also does some romantic suspense.
Sorry to hear about the waiting list. That really sucks.
It sounds like you had a busy week!
Have a great week and happy reading!
Yes it does. Thank you!
Ooo… I love it when I find something wonderful at a charity shop! I, too, got a pair of jeans a couple of weeks ago – more importantly, they had FLARES, something that’s impossible to buy in shops where it’s allll skinny. And frankly, the days when where skin-tight, clinging anything looked good on me are looong gone! And I’m saving the planet:))
Yes it’s not only less expensive and unique, it’s recycling!
Wow, you’ve been busy. I’m always happy that I get someone else to do my taxes. I’m not a math person. Enjoy your new books!
Yes. I am a math person. But the year I had a K1 and had to file in 15 states plus NYC was not a good time.
I love my new books. 🙂
Sounds like a pretty good week!
Yes. It certainly could be much worse. I only wish I could get that specialist appointment sorted. Have a great week yourself!
Taxes and finances are ever changing! My husband is nice enough to stay on top of all that.
Thanks for the freebie update. I snagged Emma Chase. I wanted to snag the Devney Perry but it’s no longer free. No worries, though, lord knows I have way too many books to read as it is! 🙂
Taxes are the exciting game without solid rules according to a tax accountant friend. Because they can change the rules after the fact. (:
The Devney Perry was a freebie through an author newsletter. I’m sorry I don’t differentiate; if anyone can get it free, to me it’s a freebie.
Taxes are a nightmare!
No worries about the Perry book! Glad you were able to snag a copy. 🙂
Learning how to sew a quilt will be my next learning project. I think they are amazing, but since I’m awful at sewing, I’m a bit afraid to try it. Not to mention I’d need to buy a reliable sewing machine.
I love the design part and that is what makes quilts amazing IMO. The sewing is all putting together the little pieces or even bigger pieces and sewing in straight lines. I found out from our Quilt Group host, you can take them to a quilt fabric store and have them do the actual “quilting” which is the hard part with a king or queen quilt trying to work around all that fabric and yet not get puckers or anything. Of course my Grandma did it all by hand so you wouldn’t need a machine for that.
I took a class at a Joanns which was a long one day class making (8-9 hours) a small quilt. That was a great choice. They did several quilt techniques and we used their machines.
Sounds like you are living a pretty busy life. You are not alone with being exhausted and sleeping during the day. Happens to me too. Not good, but it happens. Your book pile is impressive. Hope you´ll enjoy all your books.
Best wishes
Vi
Thanks. The freebies have a tendency to pile up. But the ARCs I’ve already read 3 out of 4. I keep up pretty well. I’ve done somewhat less reading because I have been off on financial projects this week.
That’s funny you mention thrift shopping and jeans. My daughter loves going thrift shopping and recently we went to a consignment store. She found a pair of Guess jeans for $3.00 on extra clearance.
Good for her on the school program! Enjoy your books and your crafting!
Thank you! We work on it all bit by bit.
Awesome that you got some new jeans and for only $2!!! Great find! Hope you have a great week!
Mary
IKR? We donate stuff back to this thrift shop because they are nice folks. They also have a food shelf and I donate stuff there also. I’ll be working to put together another carload of stuff the next couple weeks.
