I’m not a one-night stand kind of woman. I’m especially not the woman who has a few drinks at a concert and ends up in bed with my childhood celebrity crush, Eli Walsh.
However, that’s exactly where I find myself.
What’s a girl to do after a drunken mistake? Run. I grab my clothes and get away from the powerful, irresistible, and best-sex-of-my-life superstar as fast as I can. His gorgeous green eyes, rock-hard body, and cocky smile have no place in my world. My life is complicated enough.
Someone forgot to tell him that.
Eli is relentless. Pushing his way into my heart, wearing me down, proving he’s nothing like I assumed, and everything I need. But when my world shatters to pieces, he holds the broken bits together. Unwillingly, I fall desperately in love with him.
He made me think we’d have forever... I should’ve listened when he said we could only own tonight.
I was so excited to see We Own Tonight come up as a freebie! I had bought the second and fourth books in the Second Time Around series, One Last Time and If I Only Knew, on an Audible deal because Andi Arndt and Sebastian York, duh and Sophie Eastlake and SHANE EAST, double duh. I notice this one and the last one are in Audible Escape (ie Audible Romance). Unknown where I will get the third one, hmmm.
The setting is Tampa, Florida which I know a bit since my brother has lived there for about 30 years. The characters are a bit unusual and interesting choices. Eli Walsh is a rock star from a boy band from the local area. He has moved on to acting on television. Heather is a cop with a sister who has serious health issues. Some things are not quite plausible but hey, this is fiction. The character attitudes and emotional journeys do seem authentic. They are not cliche having shades of good / bad actions or feelings.
Both Eli and Heather have their own circles of friends / co-workers / family whose characters seem to be developed better than average. There is definitely more happening than just the romance. I enjoy all these aspects. Obviously, I would recommend the series on audio as the narrators are favorites. I read this one since it was a freebie though.
These are only Kindle freebies I get, or ones through author newsletters which anyone can sign up and get for free. I don’t include things like Kindle Unlimited or Prime Free Reading (I do have it). Both Tantor and Audible have occasional free audios (to anyone) and I do include those. Since I one-click on 1-2 freebies a day or probably at least 5 a week, I came up with this feature to make sure I start reading them.
So I have thought about doing a Thrifty Thursday Challenge someday. For now, what I think would be fun is if you have read and reviewed a freebie, link up to your review (Goodreads, blog, facebook or wherever) below.

i like this meme. i think my backlog posts could be a part of this.
yes sometimes they will combine. Lots of the freebies are backlist. Sometimes I get a new one which fits for New Release challenge. Everything counts in some way for summer COYER. Feel free to join in with your freebies. I love Thrifty Thursday because it makes me look at them and get reading some of them. And I’m selective enough I do get some really wonderful freebies.
Wish I’d got this when it was a freebie! Wonderful review, Anne?
I get freebie emails, like 10 a day. I review the best ones every day so I don’t miss authors I want to get. Even if I just use it to get the audiobook cheaper with Whispersync. But I’ve been lucky and grabbed some indie authors who became very big later. It takes some time to look at them but I enjoy trying some new authors, when I can.
Always nice to have a good freebie like that!
I know and it was so timely since I bought the other two!
I’ve found many great authors by grabbing up their freebies. Glad this one worked for you!
Me too. And also a chance to try authors who I have always wanted to read or heard of often but not yet tried. Of course, I also am a big library user.
Always nice to find great stories as freebies. I’ve found great new-to-me authors with freebies.

I love it as a way to try out new authors or new series.
