With its gracious homes and tree-lined streets, Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. But in one gleaming mansion, in a teenager’s lavish bedroom, a girl has been savagely murdered. And in the hallway, her horrified mother stands amid shattered glass, having killed her daughter’s attacker with her bare hands.

Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is here only to do a political favor; the murder site belongs to the Atlanta police. But Trent soon sees something that the cops are missing, something in the trail of blood, in a matrix of forensic evidence, and in the eyes of the shell-shocked mother. Within minutes, Trent is taking over the case—and adding another one to it. He is sure that another teenage girl is missing, and that a killer is on the loose.

Armed with only fleeting clues, teamed with a female cop who has her own personal reasons for hating him, Trent has enemies all around him—and a gnawing feeling that this case, which started in the best of homes, is cutting quick and deep through the ruins of perfect lives broken wide-open: where human demons emerge with a vengeance.

Continuing with the Will Trent series , Fractured is another case with teen girls being mistreated.  These are high school age girls. Will observation skills make him aware the case is not what the Atlanta PD thinks. He becomes lead on the case paired up with a female cop, Faith, who already had reasons to dislike him, as does some of the rest of the Atlanta PD.  Will is more focused on saving these girls than who hates him now.

Will’s personal issues, and people from his childhood are interwoven into his work on the case. It’s an interesting contrast of his past with a view to his future.  I enjoyed the way both Will and Faith don’t let their personal hangups keep them from working the case to the best of their ability. In fact, they try harder. They make an effort to work together even though it is difficult for them, for different reasons.

I’m really enjoying Will’s growth and the building of his circle of life. I like Faith and enjoy her growth as well. Amanda is something else; I don’t know what.  I have no idea what Angie is doing right now either. The author is doing an excellent job with Will’s character development and with thrilling cases intertwined.

Narration:

It surprises me with the main character Will Trent being male, the primary narrator of the series is a female. But Will is introspective and not very talkative. The key others in his life are female: Angie, Amanda and Faith.  I started the series as the 3rd and 6th book are just being released with Kathleen Early as the narrator.  The voices were all comfortable and well performed. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.
