Will Trent is a brilliant agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Newly in love, he is beginning to put a difficult past behind him. Then a local college student goes missing, and Will is inexplicably kept off the case by his supervisor and mentor, deputy director Amanda Wagner. Will cannot fathom Amanda's motivation until the two of them literally collide in an abandoned orphanage they have both been drawn to for different reasons. Decades before, when his father was imprisoned for murder, this was Will's home.

It appears that the case that launched Amanda's career 40 years ago has suddenly come back to life - and it involves the long-held mystery of Will's birth and parentage. Now these two dauntless investigators will each need to face down demons from the past, if they are to prevent an even greater terror from being unleashed.

Continuing with the Will Trent series , this is a new recording featuring the primary narrator of the series, Kathleen Early.  I was lucky enough to get Criminal for audio review.  I love this series and each book seems to get better.

WOW. Criminal gives us another juxtaposition of past and present with Amanda Wagner being a key point of view for this story. I am ecstatic we got so much of her past and how she started in law enforcement, her friendship with Evelyn Mitchell and how she came to know Will Trent. Wow.

You really need to read or preferably listen to these stories in order to have the unfolding of all the past. Every single one is worth it for the next one!  In addition, to the Amanda Wagner history, we get a connection to a case in the present.

Will and Sara further their relationship. And I hate Angie; I just hate her. I realize she and Will are both damaged but she is like a dog in the manger. She wants it all, even if it is only so someone else can’t have it. She is cruel to Will. Amanda is also cruel to Will at times which I haven’t figured out yet. Although sometimes I believe Amanda’s purpose is to drive him to prove her wrong.  I am so glad Sara is around so someone is kind to Will. Will’s growth is inspirational and funny as he is so utterly clueless about some relationship aspects.

Amanda did open herself up to Will more so I will be fascinated to see how things go forward. Also, what will Angie do next?  And I’m all about Will and Sara, hoping they become more comfortable and are happy.  Luckily, the next book, Unseen, is already available and I have it from the library!

Narration:

I am so happy Harper Audio has chosen to rerecord all the ones which weren’t narrated by Kathleen Early, with her. She is THE narrator of the series which might seem odd with the main character Will Trent being male. But Will is introspective and not very talkative. All the key people in his life are female: Angie, Amanda, Faith, and now Sara.  The primary points of view here is Amanda with a bit of Will, Faith and Sara.  I felt comfortable with all the voices and listened at my usual 1.5x speed.

    • Start with Grant County series which them spins off into this Will Trent series. I would have and I am not sorry to be reading these but that way would be even better. Enjoy. They are awesome.
