Detective Tracy Crosswhite has a skill, and a soft spot, for tackling unsolved crimes. Having lost her own sister to murder at a young age, Tracy has dedicated her career to bringing justice and closure to the families and friends of victims of crime.

So when Jenny, a former police academy classmate and protégé, asks Tracy to help solve a cold case that involves the suspicious suicide of a Native American high school girl forty years earlier, Tracy agrees. Following up on evidence Jenny’s detective father collected when he was the investigating deputy, Tracy probes one small town’s memory and finds dark, well-concealed secrets hidden within the community’s fabric. Can Tracy uphold the promise she’s made to the dead girl’s family and deliver the truth of what happened to their daughter? Or will she become the next victim?

A short review to update challenges

I am loving the Tracy Crosswhite series,  which is happily available on audio through Kindle Unlimited.  Every book is wonderful.  I am on a mystery / thriller / police binge. This series along with 2 others I would just read and ignore everything else except anything by Ilona Andrews.  Tracy is an amazing character; I like her so much.

Tracy is at work but taking some personal time to work on a case for a childhood friend.  It’s the case her father, a county sheriff, never brought to justice that was one of the first cases he knew about as a young officer. Tracy takes on the cold case, even though some aren’t all that happy she is digging into the past.  It’s wonderful to watch her find information and figure things out as she works the case.

Personally, she continues to see Dan O’Leary and they have time issues, and distance issues which they talk about like adults and try to resolve.   I love the way they are.  I can’t wait to go on in the series; each book is a joy!

Narration:

I was really very happy to be able to get the audiobook version through Kindle Unlimited.  Emily Sutton-Smith did a great job with all the voices.  I was able to listen comfortably at 1.5x speed.

Okay, I know this is not part of the review – but you can get audiobooks through KU? How does that work?

    • Yes you can get audiobooks in KU. It says read & listen for free instead of just read for free on the button. You can also tell because where it says KU there is a little headset next to it. There is a link I can send you to look up audio ones if you have it. Carole shared it with me.
