The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

What a great week overall!  I still didn’t do as much unpacking as I would like but things are progressing. One of the reasons some things were in boxes, was that two book cases, my dresser and my desk needed repairs.  Most of these were antiques so I had to track down people who could do the work.  On Thursday, the guys came and fixed everything up.  The desk (a roll top my Dad bought for $10 in 1929)  had been in pieces since I moved to NC 4 years ago. I had it refinished and restored in 1980 but that’s awhile ago.  The lawyers bookcase belonged to my great-grandparents and had some issues too.

Just those things are about 50-60 boxes I am now able to unpack. Before that,  I am using Briwax to condition and hopefully protect the wood on the antiques. Otherwise, they just seem to get dry, crack and break in places.

The weather has been continuing in the low 90s (around 30C) and I struggle to do the yard work.  In the morning, it’s too wet. During the day, it’s too hot. Early evening is too buggy.  One day was cloudy so I finally got the lawn mowed again.  I still need to put together the trimmer. I did open the box and put the battery in the charger.  This weekend is supposed to be 70s (21C+)  and more like 80s (25C)  this week. That would be awesome!!

Today (Saturday) we took Lulu to her first dog training class. Of course she was a star. She is not motivated by food so we are getting some different treats to try.  We went to Unleashed (local pet store) and Petsmart to look at things. We are also getting some additional equipment and toys. We also stopped at the farmer’s market and Sam’s Club so by 4pm I was ready to go to sleep!

I am thrilled to be catching up on my ARC reading and listening, although I still had more than one day where I read or listened all day so I could write the review for the next day.   I say I won’t do any more blog tours, because the books seem to come at the last minute, but I am excited about Smartypants Romance books.  There were many of the authors at Book Bonanza along with Penny Reid.  Basically, a bunch of other authors will be writing books in Penny’s world.  There’s a library series, a park ranger series, a bakery series, and a security firm series.  I think it will be fun!

Just another almost week for COYER.  I’m actually doing a few specific readings for the Hunt to finish up a bit. My daughter and I Listened to All Systems RED by Martha Wells and I read The PIRATE and I by Katharine Ashe.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you so much Harper Voyager , Brilliance Audio, and Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

Nothing.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. Smartypants books sounds like a great title for a series. If I could title my own series one day, it would be DanceYourPantsOff! lol

    • Thank you. Every leftover piece of furniture someone was abandoning became mine. No wonder I have so much to move. These two pieces I actively wanted though. I didn’t get them repaired at the rental house because I knew we weren’t staying and somehow it wasn’t worth the effort to get everything set up and then have to move. Every year I thought – will they renew the lease? It’s a little odd since we were always paying on time but it happened to me in college. Someone sold a place out from under me, gave me 30 days to move right before college started. So I can only get really settled when I own a house. So I am really happy to have things in shape. I waxed the roll top this morning and a dresser that also belonged to great-grandparents.

  2. I know what you mean about blog tours and books landing last minute on your kindle or in your mail! I think it’s not fair to us bloggers as we are in a state of emergency to read! Life is stressful enough as it is!

    • I think some of these just have a shorter timetable and release quickly when self-publishing but I find it more difficult. It’s especially hard if they have you submit 2-3 dates and don’t tell you which one until the last minute also. Of course, part of that problem is because I have reviews every day and read so many books., my own choices.

    • It finally did the cool down here with rain on Thursday night into Friday. I LOVE it too. I really need to get out an do the yard work this week while it is 5-10 degrees cooler. Today I am cooking, cleaning and unpacking so far.

  3. The furniture looks fabulous – it’s great to have items that have been passed down through the family, isn’t it? I haven’t had furniture – but ornaments and embroideries on the wall instead. That said, it is something of a responsibility to keep them in good condition for the next generations…

Wishing you a much cooler week so you can continue to unpack and get on top of the garden in some comfort!

    • Thank you. I’m a big fan of having quality items and using them well forever. I’d wear the same couple pairs of shoes my entire life if they would last. I hate shoe shopping. Anyway, I love the real wood furniture pieces. I’m looking forward to the better weather.

  4. Unpacking is the devil! 🙂 Not sure if it’s worse than packing or not. Glad you are getting things unpacked and that roll top desk looks awesome!! Enjoy your reads!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  5. That’s great you got those two antiques restored and can now unpack more things to fill them up. We had cooler weather, but suddenly got another warm weather spike later this week. With 30C I can imagine why it’s too warm for yard work. I prefer to stay inside and do nothing with those temperatures. That’s good to hear Lulu’s first dog training class went well. What type of dog is she? I can’t remember if you shared a picture of her before.

It’s tough to fit in ARC’s when you receive them too later sometimes.I am listening to Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep at the moment, I am really enjoying it and hope to listen to the rest of the series too. That’s great you got an ARC of book 3. Have a great week!

    • Yes it’s around 30C for about 3 months here, sometimes longer. I am looking forward to some yard work. Lulu is a wire fox terrier mix. I did post pics the last 2 weeks. I just wish I could read book 3 like this afternoon but I’ve work to do. Sigh. At least I can listen to audio while I work, the book case is nearly full after unpacking today.

  6. Your antique heirloom furniture looks fabulous and how exciting that you’re still using them. Errand day had me pooped out, too. Know what you mean about waiting for a good window of opportunity to get out and do yardwork. August can be brutal with heat and humidity (and bugs).
I got Save Your Breath and Big Ghosts Don’t Cry for review, too. I’m a little behind on my audio review books, but nipping off a few extras each week so I can get back on track. Just so happened that a bunch I wanted came out at once. I’m hoping to finish strong on COYER, too.

    Have a great week, Anne!

    • Mid July to Mid August is the devil. In the morning it’s too wet. Middle of the day is too hot. Evening is too buggy. There’s no good answer. Luckily we had so little rain I got away with not mowing for a few weeks.

I got so behind with moving and traveling. I am so happy to be getting back on track now.

Have a great week and COYER finish, Sophia!

    • I am happy to say things are starting to get organized although I have much to do yet. I am the family member where all the abandoned furniture went to live over the last 40 years. I love antiques also. I have many more. It’s time some of them needed some fixing or updating and I have more work to do. I’m glad to be doing it now we have settled.

    • This week is cooler now – 80s so I have to find some time to get out and do the planting of things I bought a week or so ago. I still have so much catching up to do on the blog and also with unpacking / organizing in the house. I don’t lack projects right now.

  7. Sounds like a good week and that you are getting some things done. Our dog Cass is not food motivated at all – he’s attention motivated. When we had Booker he was food motivated – all the food all the time. Poor guy, I still miss him. I need to go and link up all my COYER reviews – so not looking forward to that!

    • Yes Lulu is attention motivated. She is more interested in attention than going potty in the morning or anytime. Even really good treats or human treats like bacon just sit on the ground. Sigh. I am happy to say I have linked up my reviews daily because I was looking up if they would fit anything on the hunt. Thank goodness. Good Luck. I have all my other challenges to update this weekend but it’s easy enough since I have a Goodreads shelf for each one. I’m so glad we are not going anywhere.

  8. Hope you enjoy the books that you’ve recently accumulated! Funnily enough, I downloaded Charmed by the Bartender pretty recently myself so I’m curious to see what you thought of it when you read it. Have a wonderful week ahead!
