This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.

The genre here, by my definition,  is a contemporary romance set in a small town.  There are SO many and these are the ones which came to mind which I enjoyed.

Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities.  I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.

My favorite small town romance series are (in no particular order):

Lucky Harbor                                   The Dogfather                                  Winston Brothers
by Jill Shalvis                                 by Roxanne St. Claire                         by PennyReid

Green Mountain / Butler VT               Whiskey Creek                              Pine Mountain
by Marie Force                                      by Brenda Novak                                      by KImberly Kincaid

  1. Small Town romance is what finally got me reading Contemporary Romance. I just love how its focused more on people and usually one place, many times humorous.
So, I’ve got several series that I enjoy for this sub-genre: My favorite Carolyn Brown series is the Cadillac, TX one, but there are many more by her so I won’t bother to list them. Hope Ramsay’s Last Chance series was the first ‘small town’ romances I fell in love with, but I’ve since enjoyed her other two small town series as well. I adore Jaci Burton’s Hope series, Molly Harper’s Souther Eclectic, Robyn Carr’s Virgin River, Marilyn Pappano’s Tallgrass, Sharon Sala’s Blessings, GA, Kristen Ashley’s Colorado Mountain, Tucker Springs and Bluewater Bay series by variety of authors, Virginia Kantra’s Dare Iskand, Cara McKenna’s Desert Dogs, Heartache, TN by Joanne Rock, Catherine Anderson’s Mystic Creek, Laurel Kerr’s Where the Wild Hearts Are, Bette Crosby’s Magnolia Grove and many other series, Alexis Lynne’s Sylvan Hills, Dylann Crush’s Holiday, TX, Lisa Bingham’s Taggart Brothers, CJ Michael’s Bitter Root
    Standalone: Complicated by Kristen Ashley
There are so many more where I read only one or two books in the series. I just love this genre. 🙂

I absolutely love and adore Roxanne St. Claire’s Dogfather series. Love the characters, the humor, romance, and everything about it. Being a dog lover I love the dogs in the books. This series just warms your heart !

I am more of a standalone reader. Like to read a good book & move on to another plot/topic. No real series favorites but the ones you listed sound good.

Love Sharon Sala’s Blessings, Georgia series where neighbors are always available to help those in need.

Small town romances are my favorite and one of the main reasons that drew me to contemporary books. Small town stories are always charming and heartwarming. When I’m done with a book I always feel content and ready for another small town adventure!

  6. I need to try Roxanne St. Claire and Jill Shalvis. I’m not a big reader on contemporary romance. I like to have a little romance suspense in my stories. If they are strait up CR I usually don’t fall. The few that I’ve picked up with a small town that I’ve really fallen in love with are: Original Heartbreakers by Gena Showalter, A Gold Valley by Maisey Yates & Rocky Mountain K9 Unit by Katie Ruggle.

I really enjoy the small town romance subgenre. My go to recommendation is always the Kowalski Family series by Shannon Stacey. I also enjoyed the Hudson Valley series by Alice Clayton. I also love cozy mysteries because generally, they are small town, as well. I love when everybody knows each other, etc.
