The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Last Sunday I spent hours preparing the raised bed for my garden plants.  I  got a nasty blister on my right hand which is finally not hurting all the time. I was a filthy sweat ball after but so glad to have it complete. I planted spinach, lettuce, chard, broccoli and beets.  It looks like most of the plants will live.  My herbs in big pots are doing less well. The basil and sage look sad and those are ones I use!  The rosemary and chives are doing well.  In fact, you can’t kill chives; they live through the Minnesota winter in a pot outside.

So this week was very pleasant with no medical appointments on Tuesday or Thursday!  I love having days at home.  The next few weeks have more appointments, sadly. I was kind of queasy on Tuesday and felt guilty about not feeling like doing anything. So I read most of the day.  Then I saw something about someone taking a day off and thought about that – I don’t really take days off. Every day I have lists of things I want / need to do , errands and appts,  phone calls and emails and bills, laundry, housework, unpacking and organizing.  I could plan an occasional day OFF! MWF were the regular classes and I did some errands.  We did make it to the quilting on Wednesday night. We are now doing sashing and borders on the dog quilt.

Some of my art was repaired or framed this week and I picked it up.  My upholsterer said I could bring in my stuff since I had the fabric.  When I got there with the chair, she told me the other lady still didn’t have her fabric so she would do mine NEXT week instead of December! Great but now I have to find another $1,000 this month.  I wanted to take the loveseat in a second trip, but wasn’t sure it would fit in my car. My daughter had a headache so I somehow managed to get it out of the house and into the car by myself. It fit except for a just a couple inches tall so I tied down the back hatch.  More of my art was finished so I was able to pick that up on the same trip.  They are only about a mile apart but about 10 miles from my home.  Then I picked up prescriptions and got my flu shot.

I have most of the boxes to the right floor and hope to do more unpacking this weekend. I’ve been working steadily.  It takes organization so it’s not as simple as taking out of a box and putting it away. After dog training today, I have lost motivation a bit and may just relax a bit.  Tomorrow (Sunday) is the last day the pool is open and I’m sure we won’t get there. I hope to do some things yet tonight and more tomorrow.   Have a splendid week, everyone!

Things I Learned This Week:

OK  if I’m asking for help, I’m also going to share the cool things I learn. You may already know them but hopefully it will help someone.

This is actually a couple weeks ago.  Jonetta and I both discovered that each other’s comments were going to spam!  So check your spam folders.  I think some of my comments on WordPress blogs are going to spam for whatever reasons.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

I hit the ARC haul jackpot this week.  Thank you so much to InkSlingerPR,  St. Martin’s Press,  Social Butterfly PR,  Harper/ Harlequin Audio,  Berkley Publishing.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I decided on my second Audible original for the month.  I also gifted a copy of Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words to my friend Nicole who lives in Waconia.

Next I saw a deal where if you used 2 credits by Sept 12, you would get a $5 coupon. So since I have 18 credits to use by the end of the year I figured I could use some.  I’ve been hoarding my credits.  I wanted Birthday Suit because it is a full cast recording and I am collecting the White Trash Zombie series.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know. I love to hear your thoughts.

Anne

    • Happily, my blister is now past the pain stage. You can still see a missing couple of layers of skin. And I was wearing gloves too! I never did what you are supposed to do with pimples. I always popped them as fast as I could with clean hands or clean safety pin. Sun is good for them to dry them out as well as a cream like Clearasil or ZapZyt. The special ones with I think it’s benzoyl peroxide 10%. The other best advice is keep your hands away from your face as much as possible (other than cleaning) and don’t lean your face/ chin on your hands. Have a great week!

  1. I’m jealous you have Blind Search to read, Anne! I just hope my library gets the book. And I think because I moved to WordPress.com my blog is handling all commenters as though they are new so they’re either ending up in my spam folder or in the “needs approval” list. I’m trying to remember to check regularly.

Good luck with all your unpacking. It sounds like you’re doing a great job. Hope you have a great week.

    • My blog did the same thing and I reworked the settings plus my regular commentors got enough approvals to be recognized. I was shocked to see it was up on Netgalley and that I got approved so fast. Thanks for turning my attention to the series. I want to read it right now but these days I am reading ARCS for reviews the current week. I hate that. I’m just starting to get a bit ahead so I can read library books or ARCs which are further out.

I am doing what I can but there are always distractions. Last night my brother called and said Mom (age 92) is staying in the nursing home and so we are now selling the house where she (and we were) for the last 45 years. So I’ll be heading to Iowa next month and helping sort through her stuff. Every time I think I have a handle on things and will have some normal weeks where I can fit in unpacking and organizing some new thing needs to be handled which takes up my attention / energy.

    • With the new thing yesterday, probably not. I’ll write about it next week briefly. It’s always something. I don’t mind being busy though. But I do need to schedule breaks once in a while. I just want to catch up a little first from moving.

Using I get the Karen Rose books in my Berkley Romance emails but I’m not sure what happened with this one. Those emails are where I am auto-approved. *shrugs* I started the series with the first Cincinnati book, then went back and read the rest of the series. I love them all.

  2. That sounds fun how you planted all your plants in the raised beds. I don’t grow many herbs and veggies, but would like to one day. It’s good to take a day off now and then, I also rarely take a day off, but it really makes me feel better when I do that regularly. It does sound like you had some nice days with week and I think that’s normal to have some of those days you don’t feel like anything. Unpacking really is a pain, I remember how much time it took when I last moved and I think we still have some boxes that never got unpacked, lol.

Good tip re checking your spam regularly. After missing some important mails almost a few years ago I now regularly check my spam, although sometimes I forget for a while. Checking the spam folder of my blog is something I still forget often though.

    • It wasn’t a bad week. Just lots of things came up instead of stuff I planned. Even though I was up reading until 2 am, I’m thankfully getting a lot done today. But I really need to plan some just do what I want or crafting days. We sort of do that with quilting every week but that’s also social. I like to do stuff at home, too.

  3. Neat that you didn’t have any doctor appointments and could take a restful day off when you didn’t feel well. I guess its great that your furniture is going to be done sooner, but I do hear you about the unexpected early bill. Your raised garden beds sounds great and hopefully your herbs will perk up soon. Way to go on nearly having the quilt done.

Nice haul of ARCs and audios. I want that Karen Rose so I hope to snag it this week.

I’ll ask Shari to check if we have any comments that went to spam. Hopefully not.

    Have a good one, Anne!

  4. Anne I can understand why you’d love a week without medical appointments! I have three booked in one week so I’ll run all the time 😉 happy Sunday!

  5. Well it sounds like a busy, but predictive week for you. Hopeful you can have a day that’s more downtime for you then running around or doing errands. I like your book haul this week. Hope you enjoy! Have a great week and happy reading.

    • I think it will also help if I balance each day a bit better. I did put away a bunch of stuff last night and this morning after taking my daughter to school I hung all the art work in my room and some in our office/craft room. It only took about 30 minutes but it makes me feel much better to have it up. But trying to keep a couple days clear of appointments sure helps too.

  6. I think that everyone should plan days off. I try to make Sunday that day and I look forward to it every week! I am sorry that you had a painful blister this week. That can be so annoying! It looks like you picked up some great new reads. I do hope to listen to Birthday Suit at some point. Have a great week!

    • Yes the blister is making me consider my yard work this week cautiously. I was wearing gloves. Maybe I can tape that area but it was really the raking which caused it. I won'[t be raking to prepare the new bed for flowers so hopefully it will be ok. I’m excited about Birthday Suit because it is full cast recording and has so many favorite narrators. Sunday is the only day I can be certain of usually. Right now with dog training on Saturday, it ends up with some errands too. But that is only for 8 weeks. I like having the 2 days and then either Tuesday or Thursday if we don’t have appointments.

  7. Days off are a must for me, and I think everyone needs them. I work in a hospital four days a week, so I need a day to decompress and shut everyone out. Sounds like you got a lot accomplished! I’d love to start a garden, but it’d take some work and planning. Nice that you get your upholstery done sooner than you expected.

Hope you enjoy the new Karen Rose. I might request it. Happy reading, Anne! 🙂

    • Yes it is unanimous that everyone should have a day off. Of course, I will still DO things. Sunday is the primary day and I have to try to save off another day most weeks to be home even if I have plenty of chores.

I didn’t have a garden or flowers while renting the past 8 years so I am excited to have it. There are 2 growing seasons here: spring and fall. Being from rural Iowa, I’m used to having a garden. It’s a lot of work to prepare a bed because the soil is terrible. One has to buy soil for whatever planting area you will have.

      I get the best books!

  8. You absolutely do need a day off now and then. I mean completely off—not for doing the stuff on your to-do list, just for enjoying whatever you feel like doing. So don’t feel guilty about scheduling one, or even taking an unscheduled one. My sister calls them “mental health days.”

Wrapped Up in You was fun—I hope you enjoy it!

    • Yes the trick is finding a day not already scheduled fully. This Thursday is looking possible. Sunday is always a possibility too. Even if I have a whole list or head full of ideas about what I want to do, there is something precious abut having a whole day at home and doing things in whatever order and fitting in things which are not high urgency but just nice to do.

I already read and wrote my review for Wrapped Up in You. Jill Shalvis is a favorite.

  9. I also love having days at home, and fortunately my doctor appointments have dwindled (a good thing!). They will pick up again, though, as my surgery approaches…again.

Hope you get settled in to your satisfaction.

  10. I need to get better about occasionally giving myself days off too. I think they’re just so good for mental health and to help you just get some things off your plate and reset. Enjoy all of your new reads and I hope you have a great week!

  11. Great idea to take a day off!! I pretty much have to take a day off from blogging on the weekends because that’s when work is busy and I have no time. It’s kind of nice. It refreshes me for my blog on Monday. ❤️ Though sometimes I want to take an extra day.

    • I always think if I just had one day to do whatever I want but I could fill one day with knitting, one with sewing, one with quilting, one with reading. And there’s the 10 years of tv / movies I haven’t watched. I think it’s all about balance.

  12. We had a hectic weekend so sorry I’m responding late. Our hot water tank went out Sunday so we had to scramble to find someone to install one while my husband was off Monday. We managed to get in touch with our regular handyman but that was an unplanned expense. That’s great that your chair will be done sooner rather than later. I bet it turns out great. I definitely think you need to plan days off – especially since you got so many good books to read!

    • Wow 1 day on the hot water tank! Mine went out right after I moved and it was like 9 days. Lucky it was hot so colder showers didn’t feel as bad. I know I wish I could just read all the time but there is still so much to unpack / organize. Baby steps. It’s all about the balance.

  13. Jen

I use Disqus for comments and I realized after many months that Melanie’s comments were going to spam. I should check to see if that is happening again. I don’t have the settings right or something, so I wasn’t getting any emails about them.

Anyhow, hope you are having a good week!

  14. I think you definitely deserve a day off and should plan yourself some! You’re always so busy… I get tired just reading about your weeks! lol
I’m looking forward to Closer releasing as I love the Stage Dive world.
I also got a copy of the Marie Force book but I’m not sure I’m brave enough to read it… It’s going to be a tear jerker! I just know it.
