The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday was a nice quiet day, but both my daughter and I were tired and not feeling quite right. I did my usual stuff like laundry, some cooking, wrote some reviews and visited some blogs.  I was particularly happy to get all the posts scheduled for this week so I can work on next week and not feel so behind.

Monday is always a long day. It has the longest school schedule, then a medical appointment for my daughter and I run errands. I did have a weekend kind of feeling though because we had nothing scheduled for Tuesday. So while I got quite a bit done Monday night, Tuesday, I felt like I was dragging.  I did things but not the planned or priority things.

Wednesday, I baked cookies for the quilting group and finished putting together the receiving blanket kits. I was tired by the time we went and we stayed later than usual to finish some things.  For a bunch of leftover flannel, the receiving blankets are turning out pretty cute. Thursday, I woke with a headache but luckily I got over it.  I worked on more flannel / fabric sorting to put together some more kits. Friday was more of the same and I was feeling like I wasn’t doing enough.

Today (Saturday), we had our last dog training class.  Of course, Lulu was a star!  I am totally looking forward to 2 day weekends now with class ended! We did no errands so I actually felt pretty good energy. I decided to do the yard work since it will rain tomorrow.  I tried my new leaf blower and got through almost the whole yard.  I filled my yard waste can and the rest is at the back fence. It looks good!  I  planted the pansies in the cement planters on the front porch. I love them.  I had 4 solar stakes I put along the front sidewalk: a ghost, an eyeball, a pumpkin and a skull.   I put together a plastic 4-shelf cabinet I got for the garage and put the coolers / big thermoses in it, and a few other things. I did some laundry and cooked a good dinner, so I am really happy with my day.

Things I Learned This Week:

OK  if I’m asking for help, I’m also going to share the cool things I learn. You may already know them but hopefully it will help someone.

So I always wondered about the Reader Rank I saw on some blogs and what is my Reader Rank?  I looked on Goodreads to see if they had it since the data seems to come from there. And I could have asked my friends who have it on their blog but it wasn’t urgent enough for that to happen.

I got an email from somebody about Book Sirens and did I want to join it.  I had never heard of it but I was feeling the luxury of having Tuesday free from scheduled things after Sunday off.  Monday after running all day and only being somewhat successful. I just did what I wanted Monday night. Which was listening to audiobooks while handling emails and setting up posts for reviews the rest of the month. I filled out the Book Sirens profile thinking well I am open to requests but I can’t accept any for November.

Then I got an email Tuesday with my Reader Rank which is now on my right sidebar.  So if you want to know yours, you fill out a Book Sirens profile and they analyze your Goodreads data.

How do I do it?

OK, so your tips on putting bread in the pantry are working great so here’s a new question.  Where do you store blankets and quilts?  I used to keep them in the linen closet and in a old trunk that was my grandfather’s and I refinished for 4-H many years ago.  The old trunk is full and in this house, although there are more linen closets, they are shallow. The blankets would have to be folded pretty small as they are about 12 inches deep.  The rental house only had one linen closet but it had wood shelves instead of wire racking and the shelves were 24 inches deep.

My daughter does have an old cedar chest so once it gets cleaned and fixed up some can go there.  The dressers don’t really have any room and the drawers are too short. I keep my sheets in my bottom dresser drawer and they’re almost too much.  My only ideas are to put them in plastic totes but where do I put those?  The attic is too hard to access. Right now the clean blankets are in a tote sitting next to my desk in my bedroom but that is not a long term solution.  The other idea is to figure out how to store them in the linen closets with very small shelves. Maybe I can roll them instead of folding them?  I’ve done that with towels.

Update:  So I was looking on Amazon for a plastic storage bag or something for the 3 rolls with leftover upholstery fabric to keep it clean when I store it in the attic.  I saw under the bed storage containers and went to measure how tall my under bed space is and if I have any space left under there. I knew I had one under bed storage thing already in use.  Well, good thing I checked. There is another brand new under bed storage container and room for it, plus there were 2 plastic gown storage bags.  So I only needed to order the one for the upholstery. I got a nice big one meant for storing fake Christmas trees.  I’d still like more ideas as this won’t hold them all and we are making more quilts now.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you so much InkSlingerPR,  SocialButterflyPR, and St Martin’s Press.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

The Last Dance is my Amazon first reads I get free with Prime.  Then I got  A Trace of Copper for $0.99 at Chirp.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. Sounds like you had a pretty productive week even if it felt like you were sandbagging a few times. Your body probably needed the rest anyway so you don’t catch the awful infection that’s going around. Neat baby quilts!
I was just going to suggest storing bed linen and blankets in underbed storage if the linen closets won’t hold it all, but it looks like you have other uses for the underbed storage. I have two quilt racks that hang on the walls in two different rooms so I have a couple quilts or nice blankets always on display to help free up space in storage and I usually keep a blanket folded at the foot of each bed particularly during this season. Also, if your bedroom closets are tall enough, sometimes you can add a higher shelf above the other. That’s the best I can come up with for now. Sorry.
Ooh, I want to read that new Darynda Jones, too.
    Have a good week, Anne.

    • Thanks Sophia! Those are all great suggestions. I will use ONE of the tow underbed storages for blankets and I may be able to move the stuff in the other one elsewhere and it is only half full. That’s one of today’s projects hopefully. I think I was a sandbag on Tuesday or encased in sand. I feel much better this weekend and finally getting over the trip from 2 weeks ago. Sorting, pressing and cutting all the flannel has been a HUGE project but it’s cutting my stash in half which is great. Have a wonderful week Sophia – I hope you get all your requests.

  2. Interesting info about Book Sirens and I like the data in your reader ranking. Seems like something Goodreads should be able to do.

Your receiving blankets look great! FYI, the Audible 2 for 1 credit sale was pretty good today. I got four books.

    Have a great week, Anne?

    • The info comes from Goodreads. I think the data is interesting. The question is does it update or is it a one shot point in time? I don’t know yet. oh I do know because it started with my average rating as 4.??? and now it’s 3.9??? Fascinating.

Thanks for the heads up about the sale. It must have just started today and I went to check my email now and something in my wish list is on sale.

I’m so, so happy to get the flannel sorted and put to use. It’s cutting the stash at least in half.

  3. Busy week, even with Tuesday being an “off” day! That’s really cool about the Goodreads reader rank – and look at your stats. Wowza! I know mine would not be so great, so I probably skip getting the info for now.

Yay for Lulu being done with her training and doing so well! I probably should have put Buffy in a class. In some ways she’s a great dog and in others, she needs help. But she’s seven and with Dante taking up all my time I don’t see how we’d swing it.

    Have a great week Anne:)

    • Timing is everything with dog training. Which is a misnomer because it is really people training, btw. She’s a good dog; we just needed to learn how best to communicate what behaviors are what we want.

I hate “off” days. I’m thrilled this weekend is feeling energized! The weather is good. I’m getting things done. Even though I read until 2 am I feel good.

  4. Love the blankets! Congrats to your puppy! What a cutie!
My new ottoman for my chair has storage so I put all my blankets in there but I have so many. I need those bags that squish like three blankets really flat so I can store them better.

Have a great week, Anne! Happy Reading! xx

    • OH there’s a great idea! I can get space saving bags for some of the ones in the trunk to make them fit better. I like to make them very accessible but this would work for the ones used less often or out of season. I am so happy to get the flannel sorted and used. Thanks Michelle!

  5. Melanie

Sounds like a very busy week. Things for me haven’t been too bad, but I’ve been very tired, so it is good that it hasn’t been bad thing that things have been a bit slow. I hope you have a great week.

Melanie @ Hot Listens & Books of My Heart

    • Slow is good; sometimes one just needs to catch up internally. I felt like I was running in sand Tuesday, so tired, and couldn’t accomplish anything. But this weekend is going very well – I’m feeling energy! I hope your week is relaxing and you feel much better!

    • Well certainly part of the issue is so many blankets / quilts so it is good we are making some for charity now too. Lulu is not very food motivated; she just leaves treats. What she wants is cuddles!

  6. Those large space saving bags you vacuum the air out of might be useful in storing your quilts. Wall racks might work too, think something that looks look a wide ladder where you can hang the quilts over each rung. You can buy them, or make, or have something custom made, to suit you.

I’ve added Darynda Jones new book to my wishlist

    Have a great reading week

    • Thank you; all good options. I know the woman who runs the quilting group “stores” them on every sofa and chair. But she has at least 4 sofas and many big chairs! We work primarily on quilting in her kitchen area and kitchen eating area and it is bigger than my living room. She has an entry room, a formal living room, a huge family room and formal dining room also.

  7. Your dog is so cute!!!! Adorable. I had a weird week too, by Friday I was just so ready to be a couch potato. Long weeks take it out sometimes.

That Reader Rank looks neat! Thanks for sharing!

  8. I am always impressed by all that you do with your own two hands Anne be it cooking or quilting! And Lulu is such a cutie 🙂

  9. I think Sophia Rose’s suggestions on storage are really good. I don’t have that many blankets anymore, we don’t need that many in Southern California with the weather being so warm all the time, but I keep some in under-bed storage, and also I have one on the foot of my bed.

Lulu should be proud of her good behavior!

I’m interested in hearing what you think of Darynda Jones’ newest series! 🙂

    • Thank you! Yes that is why I am cutting down severely on my flannel stash; it isn’t as cold here in NC. I may need to give up some plain old blankets and just keep more of the quilts. I haven’t read the Darynda Jones book and likely won’t until January but I am curious to do it.

  10. You seem to get so much done every week! Lulu looks like quite the star 🙂 I hate trying to figure out what to do with blankets. I scaled down what I had a lot. I pretty much keep them stacked on an old dresser next to my dryer. They get used often when my daughter has a friend over or someone gets cold in the basement watching tv. I grabbed the new Darynda Jones book from Edelweiss last week and am looking forward to it. Enjoy all of your new books and have a great week!

    • I fight hard to do as much as I can but it usually doesn’t seem like enough. We don’t need as many blankets or quilts here in NC, it is warmer but we love the quilts. I’ll put some under my bed and my daughter can put some in her hope chest which is empty right now. Lulu is a joy!

  11. Your blankets turned out super cute! And I’m always so impressed at how productive you are during the week. I wish I could get half that much done, lol. And yay for completing puppy class. I think we have two weeks left of our class and I’ll be glad when I can check that one off my list of things to do.

    • Yes I love getting things accomplished. I wish I could do more. But I have to be patient and pace myself. lol The flannel reduction project is successful and will take more time yet. Our work room has 3 tables plus the ironing board covered with flannel in various stages right now. I love the results of cutting down on the stash and making some cute useful blankets.

  12. What a lovely pic of Lulu – thank you for sharing, Anne:)). I’m VERY impressed with your stats on Reader Rank! As for the blankets – my sister uses the vacuum pack system and I know she likes it very much as everything stores so neatly. Apart from anything else, nothing gets damp once the air is vacuumed out. Have a good week.

  13. I’ve been on Book Sirens for awhile because I really like the data they provide. Since they pull it all from GR, you’d think GR would have something.
Congrats to your dog on graduating training classes!!

  14. You had a really good week. I am also in a place without enough storage, so your ideas sounded good. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy your books, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  15. Jen

Sounds like a pretty good week. The quilts are lovely. I hope you enjoy A Trace of Copper!! That series is a good one!

  16. I only kept one small quilt and that one´s in my closet. The others are all gifts I gave away. So, no help on that front from me, sorry. Thank you for sharing with us the info how to get the ReaderRank. Didn´t know that, so I am a bit smarter now. Your Lulu is so cute! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Happy reading.

  17. The blankets look great and Lulu is too cute!!
That is cool about the Goodreads Reader Rank, I hadn’t heard of it.
Enjoy your week and your books!
