Series on Saturday: Sherlock Holmes @sherrythomas #LeonardGoldberg @AndrewLaneAuthor #NicholasMeyer @mary_russell @AnthonyHorowitz #Giveaway

This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.

The genre here, by my definition,  is a story where the story is somehow related to Sherlock Holmes.  These are the ones which came to mind.  I enjoyed some more than others and I have not read the entire series.

Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities.  I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.

My Sherlock Holmes type series are (in no particular order):

Lady Sherlock                                     Daughter of Sherlock Holmes            Sherlock Holmes
by Sherry Thomas                                    by Leonard Goldberg                             by Anthony Horowitz

Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes             Holmes Pastiches                       Young Sherlock Holmes
by Laurie King                                               by Nicholas Meyer                           by Andrew Lane

What are your favorite series?

Of those listed, I’ve only read Lady Sherlock, which I love. I also have read a couple of the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James series, which picks up with Sherlock a year or two after his supposed death. They are very similar to the original series. Of course, I did really enjoy the Sherlock show (BBC).

  2. I read the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes series – until Mary and Sherlock got together, which I found uncomfortable, given he was her mentor and teacher… But I think the adventures themselves seem well written and a lot of fun.

  3. I’ve always wanted to read the Anthony Horowitz series and the Andy Lane one. I already love the Sherry Thomas and Laurie R. King series. I read the first of the Leonard Goldberg series and liked it.
I put the Baskerville Affair series by Emma Jane Holloway on your vote list, too.
I also like a couple others: The Charlotte Holmes series by Brittany Cavallero, the Jackaby series by William Ritter, and the Mycroft Holmes series by Quinn Fawcett

    • Oh thank you! I’ll have to try some of those other ones. I enjoyed both the Horowitz and Lane ones, and hope to read more of them. Nicholas Meyer has a new one coming out this year – 26 years after the last one!

I love many of the series recommended here Lady Sherlock, The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes, The Jackaby but two other series I’m really enjoying are G.S. Denning’s Warlock Holmes and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Mycroft Holmes and Sherlock

I like William Ritter’s series, Jackaby because it has action and humor with unique stories.

I’ve never read anything Sherlock. Not really watched anything either. Not really sure why. I think it is because I’m not very big fan of historical novels, though I’ve read some.
