The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Sunday was great weather and a nice day at home. I didn’t work on the big projects but did get some things accomplished. Monday we had two medical appointments. One was the one with the gastro we had been waiting for 3 months. She did a medication change and prescribed pelvic physical therapy. We go back in about 3 months again.
We stopped for groceries on the way home. I wanted to try Trader Joe’s gluten free pie crusts; I use them for chicken pot pie. We were so tired when we got home we both napped. I picked lettuce from the garden and made salad with dinner. I’ve been covering the garden on cold nights and the next 2 nights it got in the 20s.
Tuesday Lulu had a vaccine and her nails trimmed. It rained and we just stayed home after her appt. Wednesday was the normal classes but it felt like Monday. We were tired and cold and didn’t go to quilting. I did pick more lettuce.
Thursday, my daughter had her first pelvic physical therapy which the gastro prescribed. I think it will be really helpful, even more than the pelvic PT the OBGYN prescribed in Jan-Feb (2019). This group seems to take a different approach, so we are hopeful. Yes, there is a theme here. We will only do a couple this year and then go to twice a week in Jan-Feb 2020 because of insurance limits on PT.
Friday was the normal classes. I spent the afternoon, researching and making lists of costs and information on Book Conventions in 2020. I did go ahead and purchase my DragonCon ticket and book a hotel room downtown. It’s been a few years since I went and it was crazytown but so good. So many of my favorites are there. The lines for Jim Butcher panels and signings were HUGE.
Friday night, my daughter had a college event at the NC Art Museum. It was free to college students and had art projects for them to try. One of her classmates was doing the tours for it. There was a special exihibit for Frida Kahlo. There was Whole Foods nearby and I got a few things but they didn’t have that much GF stuff I was trying to find. I wish somebody made GF pie crusts like Pillsbury. I like to make chicken pot pies with only a top crust. The pie crusts I have found are ones already in the pan to be a bottom crust. Trader Joes seems the most reasonably priced but I haven’t used it yet.
The weekend is a tiny bit warmer and I’m looking forward to project time. It’s windy though and cloudy so it feels cold. I’m trying to catch up on ARCs but it feels like I am always reading for the upcoming week. When I get ahead, I tend to slip in a library book so it’s my own fault, of course.
Read a Series in a Month: I’ve read two of my three books so far.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Oh how I love the publishers who work with me! Thank you so much Sourcebooks Casablanca, SocialButterflyPR, and Tantor Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
NOTHING.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.
Anne
Sounds like a pretty decent week and it’s good to be hopeful of the new group’s plan for your daughter. Glad her headache is gone and you are still getting produce from your garden. We had a snowstorm that dumped a load and then kept the temps down in the twenties so we had leaves still coming down that I would normally rake up, but there’s several inches of snow on the ground. Oh well.
All three of your haul books look great. I took way too many review books over the last few weeks and need to tone it down with the one-click button.
Nicely done so far on your series challenge. I’m at 2 of 3, too. Hoping to read the third one this week now that HoHoHoRAT is ending.
Neat that you found those pie crusts you can use for your chicken pot pies. That sounds good in this cold weather.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia! I have leaves to rake and not snow. It was SO windy yesterday and it’s just colder. I hope to get out this week as it warms up. I wish you the best of weeks!
Sounds like you had a tiring, but productive week. I hope the physical therapy for your daughter helps. Those pie crusts sound handy. I usually use storebought dough as I often don’t have the energy to also make the crust. Here they sell these smaller square pieces of dough I use to cover a pie pan, which works great. It’s been colder here as well. Have a great week and enjoy your new books!
Thank you Lola! I have not heard of the squares. When I wasn’t doing gluten free I did sometimes use phyllo dough. I tend not to make actual pie, other than chicken pot pie. Without pie crust, I have been making chicken with dumplings or biscuits. I usually make cobbler or crisp with seasonal fruit. In fact, I should make apple crisp tonight.
Maybe it’s something they don’t have in the states? Here we have puff pastry dough and dough for pies and even pizza dough in these square shaped forms in the freezer part of our grocery stores. It’s quite handy. I only have one dish actually so far for which I use the pie crust, my onion pie recipe. Dumplings sound good too, I haven’t tried making those myself yet.
I made some apple crisp earlier this week, it was delicious. I hope your apple crisp turns out well. It sure is the season for dishes like that.
It has been a busy week, Anne. I’m so glad the therapy helped your daughter – I hope it goes on being useful. I have a friend who is gluten intolerant and she sprinkles GF breadcrumbs, mixed with seasoning and some dried herbs over her pie fillings so they bake crispy. It’s very tasty. I hope you have a great week.
Thank you. The breadcrumbs and herbs are a good suggestion. I often use biscuits or dumplings with my chicken, which I make from scratch.
Sounds like a busy week. I hope the physical therapy is helpful. Have a great week!
Thank you ! I think it’s always a busy week. Even when we stay home there is plenty to do but we like cooking and crafts and gardening and sports. But we do enjoy the stay home and lollygag too!
You’re quilting stories remind me of quilters at black Dog cafe. I wonder if any of those ladies have blogs. It’s nice to find other bloggers in MN.
I knew other people who quilted but I haven’t really followed any quilting blogs. I have followed some knitting blogs and cooking blogs.
Anne you had once again a very busy week. All the visits to the doctors seem quite normal for you now but I know from experience, when I ran from neuropediatrician to endocrinopediatrician with my daughter (rinse repeat) that sometimes it gets heavy!
Yes, we are used to lots of doctor appts but we don’t love it. I do feel like we are making some great progress – I hope I am right. I thought that about 2 years ago and everything fell apart. But she is doing more things, planning more activities and willing to take more classes at school, so it’s clear she is feeling somewhat better. Thank you!
I love the idea of a garden, but it has been years since I had one.
Enjoy your week and your books, and thanks for visiting my blog.
I love a garden but I am not always good at it. I picked the last of the lettuce today. Tuesday I will probably pick all the chard and make my favorite chard dish. It is a Julia Child one which is lots of work but soooo good. There’s still spinach but barely enough for one meal.
It must be so great o have a garden and pick fresh veggies. 🙂
Wishes of a happy week.
Thank you! I like the fresh veggies but sometimes I think the farmers’ market would be easier and just as good.
It sounds like you’ve had a busy week! I have to take my dogs to the vet to have their nails cut, with the exception of one. As soon as I get the clippers out, they scatter like I’m coming at them with a chainsaw. If I still TRY to do it myself, they scream. Seriously, doggy yelp-screams that have actually brought the neighbors over. The vet is just easier! 🙂
Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? ?
We did her nails the first time but the second time she did the yelping and struggling. So we took her in this time.
Sounds like a busy week! Hopefully the PT helps.
I’m hopeful. They also prescribed a support belt which is better than taping the other PT had us do.
Nice mix of titles, Anne? Enjoy!
Thank you. I like diversity; it’s interesting.
Another busy week it seems. I hope the PT continues to help your daughter. And fingers crossed the Trader Joe’s pie crust is a good one. A salad with garden fresh lettuce sounds delicious.
Thank you. I used the lettuce on a taco salad and it was delicious.
Sounds like a busy week, but a productive one. I hope the pelvic PT is helpful for your daughter – sounds like it has potential. Isn’t it frustrating the way insurance always has to factor into our decisions for health care?
Happy reading! Have a great week ?
Yes insurance is very frustrating. This will be a 5 day normal week and I hope we can be productive again.
You had a busy week! Your books look good. Whiteout has my interest. I hope you have a great week!
Thanks. Whiteout is a romantic suspense by an author I enjoy.
I really hope that the new PT continues to be successful and your daughter finds some relief!
Me too. Thank you.
Sounds like a good week. I hope you have fun at DragonCon. It sounds really cool!
I went in 2017 and it was pretty amazing. Long lines for some things but not others. I was happy to meet Jim Butcher, EJ Stevens, Patricia Briggs, Larry Niven, Jack Campbell. I had met before but got to see Faith Hunter, Chloe Neill. I wanted to meet Sherilyn Kenyon but the Jim Butcher line was long and time was up before I could get to her. I loved the panels. There are a LOT of people and anything with Jim Butcher is probably at least a 2 hour line.
I hate how much control insurance companies have over medical care. I PT helps then it is a shame that there are limits. Going to a book convention sounds like so much fun! I hope to make it to one someday. I tend to make a lot of cakes and haven’t tried to make a gf pie but I do know Gluten Free on a Shoestring has some great recipes. Funny that you mention it but Pillsbury did have a gf pie crust for a while along with cookie dough and pizza crust but I guess they didn’t sell since I don’t see them anymore. Have a great week!
Yes, I’d love to have her doing the PT twice a week in Dec when she doesn’t have school but she’s out of visits for the year and self-pay is ~$300 a time. I don’t feel like we can afford it especially when in January it will be $20 a visit. Well if you find a convention you want to attend let me know, maybe I’ll go also! I know there are recipes for pie crust but I just don’t want to make my own. I want the nice pre-made ones. I haven’t found any crusts like Pillsbury gluten ones so I wish they still made those even if it was only at Thanksgiving since I mostly make chicken pot pie in the fall / winter anyway.
I googled and it looks like Kroger has the Pillsbury gluten free dough to roll out so I will see if I can get it when I shop later in the week. No idea where Kroger is.
OK except all Krogers in NC are now closed but apparently Kroger has it. But I’ve also seen online where people say they don’t make it at all anymore. ??
DragonCon looks like an awesome event!
I hope the PT continues to be effective for your daughter.
Wishing you a great reading week, stay warm!
Thanks I loved DragonCon when I went 3 years ago. It was so big and a little overwhelming but the people I wanted to see/hear were there.
Great book haul. Can’t wait to see what you think of the audio on Shadow of Doubt. I liked the book, but didn’t listen. Have a great week and remember Friday the Sign-Up for Library Love 2020 goes live. ^_^
I’m looking forward to the audio and Friday. Tomorrow I will be working on all my posts so I’m looking forward to it! I just have to figure out the linky so I’ll start on it in the morning.
I’d like to hear your opinion about the Trader Joe’s pie crusts once you’ve tried them. I love Chicken Pot Pie and would love to try a homemade version without too much work.
I hear you on trying to catch up with ARCs. It seems I’m always only about a week or two ahead. Oh well.
Sure I’ll mention it if it works out. I got 2 but I want to put it on top instead of the bottom and haven’t figured that out. In the meantime I put drop biscuits on top like dumplings. I also googled and it looks like Kroger has the Pillsbury gluten free dough to roll out which might be easier. I am going to see if I can get that Thursday when I am shopping.
some great looking books and i love that you are still getting things from your garden
The garden won’t hold up much longer as it has gotten colder but I’m trying to use things this week.
YEA! Sounds like a pretty decent week. It was my hubs bday over the weekend and we celebrated with friends while watching the Patriots game on Sunday. Other than that, he’s been working like mad. I was able to get some things done around the house.
Well you had a pretty good weekend too. Thanks for visiting and have a lovely week!
Sounds like a really good week. I hope the new PT really helps your daughter. There are never any bookcons near me so sadly I don’t go. I’d hate to board Cass anyway. It’s great that you are already planning ahead. We are in full-on holiday mode here. Cassius has a birthday Friday and then our Anniversary is Saturday and then next week is Thanksgiving. Time is flying!
We have yet to board Lulu. My daughter is staying home with her while I go to DragonCon. You have a lot of special holidays coming up fast. Enjoy!
Another busy week for you. Glad that the new therapy approach is helping your daughter. It got super cold here for several days but starting to warm up some now. Still pretty cold at night though. Very nice books from the publishers!
The weather always says it is warming up in the next 5 days like 55-60 and then the actual is 45-50. It was 10% chance of rain yesterday and it was cold 40ish and rainy all day. If it actually was the 55-60 I would love it. I have been getting great things from publishers and it seems like I have been forgetting to put some onto the post. Sigh. I can’t keep up this week.
Our garden is already made ready for winter. So no homegrown salad or vegetables anymore. I hope the PT will help your daughter and that all the costs get covered by your insurance. Happy reading.
The garden is close to finished. But I’m enjoying the last bit. Thanks, I hope this helps her too.
I find the US health insurance system so confusing… Regardless of the PT insurance restrictions, I hope the treatment helps your daughter!
I’m so excited for my first book con next year. First RARE 2020 in Edinburgh and depending on how it goes I may look to one of the US ones for 2021. 🙂
Thank you. Oh I have thought about RARE. Which US one would you consider?
