Luke Thorne loves having one hell of a good time. As the ruler of every dark creature to walk the earth, he certainly has more than a bit of a bad side. He lives for danger and isn’t the type to lose his heart—mostly because he doesn’t have one. Then she walks into his life.

Mina James is seduction in the flesh, a perfect temptation that the devil himself couldn’t pass up. Too late, Luke realizes he’s let a real siren into his life, a woman who is bent on using his dark powers to free herself from hidden enemies. Since Luke isn’t the type of man to be used, he should walk away from her, but…something about Mina draws him close.

Soon he’s realizing that she isn’t who she appears to be. Not dark and cold, but burning red hot. Mina is a woman fighting for her life—and the Lord of the Dark suddenly finds himself in an unlikely role…hero. Luke isn’t going to let her enemies destroy Mina. He will fight heaven and hell to keep her. But in the end, the secrets they both carry may just rip apart a love that should never have been…

There are Bad Things in the world…very, very bad. Are you ready for them?

I have always enjoyed this author and I have read a few of her series.  I get her author newsletter and the first three books in her Bad Things series would be bundled for $0.99 through November 2.  I had The Devil in Disguise as a freebie so I decided I was going to read it to decide if I wanted to buy the set.  Of course, I didn’t read it until the last day.

It is not quite as long as a regular book and it was a fast easy read. I don’t read too much paranormal romance; I think because the males are sometimes too alpha with the female being in trouble, poor, or less power. That situation occurs here somewhat.  Luke is a very powerful paranormal. Mina is also powerful but she is in trouble when they meet.

We get dragons, mermaids, werewolves, vampires, and shifters. It’s a romantic suspense feel with the humans actually the bad guys! I won’t spoil the fun. You can try it yourself as it is often a freebie.

These are only Kindle freebies I get, or ones through author newsletters which anyone can sign up and get for free. I don’t include things like Kindle Unlimited or Prime Free Reading (I do have it). Both Tantor and Audible have occasional free audios (to anyone) and I do include those.  Since I one-click on 1-2 freebies a day or probably at least 5 a week, I came up with this feature to make sure I start reading them.

So I have thought about doing a Thrifty Thursday Challenge someday. For now,  what I think would be fun is if you have read and reviewed  a freebie, link up to your review (Goodreads, blog, facebook or wherever) below.

I’ve enjoyed a few of this author’s PNR titles, but like you, I don’t really read them much anymore. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for reviewing.

    • Yes I love getting freebies, especially by authors I have heard about but not yet read. It’s a gateway to see if I like them, particularly since it is often the first book in a series. I do enjoy this author and have read more than one of her series. I’m just starting this series, having bought a bundle to continue after this one.
