The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday was a nice day of working projects and cooking a nice dinner. Monday was back to school with the long day in the car. I had been looking for a workbench on facebook marketplace and just happened to see one being given away for free, right after I got my daughter to school. I messaged them and went right over to get it.  It was about 30 minutes further northwest. It was a nice heavy duty one. The nice young couple is moving to Scotland and was getting rid of lots of things. I drove it home and then was about 20 minutes late picking up my daughter but we got to her medical appt right on time. I did manage to finish 2 audiobooks on my day of driving (one started the day before).  Sadly, I ran out of electric miles and had to use gas.  Normally since I get about 60 miles a day electric I don’t use gas.

Tuesday, I finagled to have a day at home but them decided I had to do one thing because of the amazing weather, so I went out and about for 2.5 hours.  I’ve been trying to rebalance my investments because I haven’t made many changes in 10-15 years and things needed updating. I love the analysis part. My dad retired when I was starting high school and my brother still in elementary school so dinner conversation was stocks, bonds, mutual funds, pensions, long term care insurance, annuities, whole / term life insurance, etc.  My mother was 14 years younger and they were married 8 years before having me. He didn’t want to leave her and two young children destitute if anything happened. It’s not surprising one of my degrees is in accounting.  My brother and I took to it like ducks to water; my mom not so much.

Wednesday was another school day when I tried to do all the errands since it would be turning colder on Friday.  We did finally make it to quilting. Our hostess is doing Whole 30 and made this great dish Chicken Primavera served over spaghetti squash or pasta.  I’m going to make it on Sunday – it was so delicious!

OH!  Updated: I forgot to say I picked the last of the broccoli (tiny) since the weather was getting colder.  It was agreed it was much better than anything from a store.  Shocking it survived until now.

Thursday was a really great day at home. I got a lot of stuff done and felt really good about it. Friday was the long day away from home 9a-5:30p. I did listen to another audiobook from the Gaslight Mystery series though!  My daughter had 3 classes followed by a medical appt.  I was so beat when I got home I could barely function.  Today (Saturday) I’m trying to get back on track with the usual things like blog posts, laundry, cooking, and house projects.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you so much to  author Stephanie Burgis, Grand Central Publishing, Kensington Books, and InkslingerPR!

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I pre-ordered Sweep with Me as soon as it was available.  The Travis McGee books was a Kindle deal.

Amazon Prime gave us TWO free first reads this month.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

    • It’s a busy week trying to do everything. Whenever I have a small window of time for a day I go back to the Gaslight mysteries. They are really capturing me. Thank you!

I guess if the Lisa Jewel books are not at my library I should go ahead and buy them if there is a Chirp or Audible deal.

  1. That’s so cool, that your dinner talk was financial bonds and so forth. I think sometimes ignorance is not bliss when it comes to these matters. More discussion could be better.

    • I think anyone else would think it was really weird. But it was what was happening to us, as a family, going into retirement. Dad also knew Mom was not into financial stuff so he trained us kids. It has served us well throughout life. I wish I could train my daughter on more of it. It’s bizarre because it is so instinctual after years that I can’t even explain some things. You know, like when you know the answer to a math problem, but can’t show your work?

Anyway, we were big watchers of the Nightly Business Report and on Friday, Louis Rukeyser (PBS). I do think when high schools teach Independent living they should instruct on basic finances at least. But I’m not sure they do independent living classes anymore even. That’s what they called it for the boys. Girls took regular home ec and did more advanced sewing, cooking, etc. Yes, I’m older than dirt.

  2. Managing investments can be tricky though Anne! I have a master in economics and even I am very very careful LOL. Good for you on the free workbench! have a nice week.

    • Yes, it is very risky. I have been pretty careful and have been mostly very successful. My brother also went on to get a masters in economics. He’s all into electric, solar and wind now, not for investments but learning about them. He works in IT. But his hobby is cars, so of course, he has a Tesla. He also had a Leif, a Cmax and I got a Volt. I run on electric almost all the time. Mine is a hybrid which goes about 60 miles / 95 km a day on electric only, then gas if needed. I only have to get gas about twice a year when I take long trips. Thank you Sophie!

  3. That’s neat that you got the free tool bench. Bravo for keeping track of your investments. I took some of the classes offered through my work when they offered them for our 401K benefit and was shocked that so few came to the classes or cared about their investments.
Nice haul of books. I need to get that latest Innkeeper Chronicle.
Glad you had a good week, Anne!

  4. I love it when you find something you need for free. How awesome is that! It sounds like another busy week for you. I hope your daughter is enjoying her classes this semester. I love that you usually don’t have to use gas in your car. I hope you have a great week and enjoy all of your new books!

    • I’m really enjoying those mysteries. They are set in NYC and are historical. Teddy Roosevelt is a police commissioner. There are very much classes of wealthy and working people. The main female character Sarah is a widow from a very upper class family but she was married to a doctor and trained as a nurse so she supports herself as a midwife and nurse. She was estranged from her family because of how they wanted her and her sister to marry for class / money instead of love.

A murder happens in an upper class home where she delivered a baby and she ends up helping the police. She finds it interesting and as time goes on she works more and more with Detective Malloy. He doesn’t want her to help, especially when it is dangerous. But she has access to more upper class people and knows high society rules and can find out gossip etc. So they end up working together often. I’m just starting the 7th book. I hope you enjoy them if you try them. I really love the audio version.

  5. Oh wow – how great getting that desk for free:). I’ve just finished reading Sweep With Me and really enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy it, too:). Have a great week, Anne.

  6. Good for you getting caught up on projects and wow your Broccoli last this long?? That is a miracle.

Ooh….Kerrelyn Sparks book….its such a shame the issues she has had with the publisher and had to switch for the series. But she is doing great in this fantasy series. I can’t wait to see what she does with the next two books.

  7. It’s great that you found a work bench at no cost. It feels good to be thrifty right? It finally turned cold here this weekend and I’m ready for spring. Well I need to get reading on our buddy read but wanted to drop in. Looks like you got lots of good books this week!

  8. I’ve heard good things about the Gaslight Murder Series so I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it. That chicken primavera dish sounds so good. I hope it turns out well for you when you make it. Have a wonderful week!

  9. I am glad you were able to get that bench! It was a rough week at work for me and I was so glad to put it behind me. This coming week will be a busy one. We have something going on after school/work every day. I hope you enjoy your new books. Moontangled looks fun. I love that cover. I am looking forward to How to Love Your Elf. Oooo! Sweep With Me! I didn’t know about that one. I need to get myself a copy. I hope you have a great week, Anne! Happy Reading!

    • Thank you! Yes some weeks are just too hectic. Friday was such a long day I just wanted to crawl in bed and sleep. I don’t know why it was more exhausting than usual, maybe because it was a bit colder? I love and pre-order everything Ilona Andrews. I read this serial as it was on their blog but they update it a bit for publication so I’ll read it again.

  10. Oh, I’d like to try a Chicken Primavera recipe. That’s one I’ve never tried at home.

I need to try that Gaslight series seeing as you’re enjoying it so much. I’ll check to see if my library has it on audio. 🙂

  11. What a busy week! I’m glad you got to listen to those audiobooks.. They sound fun!
It looks like you’ve got some great new books this week!
I hope your weekend was good and you got some me time too. 😉
Have a great week and happy reading!

    • I had a great weekend but I don’t know about me time. Unless you consider reading or cooking me time I don’t get much. Until I finish some of this project stuff I am motivated to do it instead of just fun stuff. I am already worrying over the fact I am planning to go see the Star Wars movie tomorrow because it will eat up 3 hours but I have seen all of them in the theater. But I am happy with the things I am doing. I just like the unscheduled days because I can take the tasks in the order I feel like.

  12. Jen

LOVED Sweep with Me – can’t wait to get it on audiobook, and I just started Moontangled today. I’m so glad the author put out the novella! That cover is gorgeous. I hope you and your girls 🙂 have a great week.

  13. My life looks kind of boring compared to your busy week. I am not much of a financial girl, stock markets and all those things are kind of geek to me *smile* Hope you have a wonderful week and happy listening!

  14. That’s crazy that you still had broccoli but I’m not really surprised. The weather we’ve been having hasn’t exactly been winter-like here in NC. Though the chilly nights lately feel more like it.

I hope you have a calmer week!

    • I know. I couldn’t believe it. But I covered the garden during the cold spell a few months back. I’ll do things differently and start the second crop earlier than September this year. Although it was pretty hot until then. I kept waiting for the pansies to be available and it wasn’t until October. They don’t do well in heat.

This cold spell has me wanting to curl up, stay home and read.
