Angel Smith is finally ready to leave Antarctica for a second chance at life. But on what was meant to be her last day, the remote research station she's been calling home is attacked. Hunted and scared, she and irritatingly gorgeous glaciologist Ford Cooper barely make it out with their lives...only to realize that in a place this remote, there's nowhere left to run.

Isolated with no power, no way to contact the outside world, and a madman at their heels, Angel and Ford must fight to survive in the most inhospitable—and beautiful—place on earth. But what starts as a partnership born of necessity quickly turns into an urgent connection that burns bright and hot. They both know there is little chance of making it out alive, and yet they are determined to survive against the odds—and possibly, the world.

I discovered this Survival Instincts series, by reading a anthology of romantic suspense novellas, Turn the Tide. I loved most of them. I was already a fan of this author.  For a novella, Deep Blue was well developed and encouraged me to continue the series. It was a story about Eric Cooper and he gets a call from his brother, Ford.

Whiteout is Ford’s story. He is a researcher who lives at the South pole. He loves it because he can be alone and has less sensory stimulation. He is attracted to this season’s cook, Angel, but she is too loud, and colorful for him, so he avoids her.  Until he can’t.

Ford and Angel end up on a survival trek because of insane corporate goals.  It reminded me of the Dirk Pitt novels with its clever hacks to survive by scientific types, like MacGyver skills.  Ford is very experienced in both the area and the research facility.

The harrowing trip they make has them fighting for their lives but also others’ lives. Ford and Angel get to know each other in the worst possible conditions, which means they know the true nature of the other. Their ordeal builds their cooperation on top of the attraction they already had.

Their action-packed, dangerous escape was non-stop except for a few tender moments. I am invested in this world and the characters and can’t wait for more!

About Adriana Anders

Adriana Anders writes romance that’s dark, smart, and full of heart. She has acted and sung, slung cocktails and corrected copy. She’s worked for start-ups, multinationals and small nonprofits, but it wasn’t until she returned to her first love—writing romance—that she finally felt like she’d come home. Today, she resides with her tall French husband, two small children and fat bastard of a French cat in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where she writes the dark, gritty, emotional love stories of her heart.

Her award-winning debut novel, Under Her Skin, the first in the Blank Canvas series, will be out from Sourcebooks Casablanca in February 2017.

  1. I just love a good romantic suspense and I really love how you related this with the “Dirk Pitt” books, because girl I LOVE those books. So I am grabbing this one from the store TODAY!!!

    • I really like everything by this author. What I have read is all romance and mostly romantic suspense. Jennifer (The Book Nympho) turned me on to her work. I first listened to the Blank Canvas series on audio which is amazing, intense. I was lucky enough to meet her at RT in Atlanta. The same year I met Melanie and Felicia.
