Sunday Post – 1 March 2020 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality @Tynga

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

So our exciting news on the blog is Sophia is joining our team as a reviewer, every other Wednesday!  She will start posting March 18th. I am so excited to have her join us and share more books I will want to read. She reads a diverse set of genres and writes excellent reviews.

Sunday was nicer weather and a great day to be home. I visited blogs, wrote reviews and set up posts. I did some planning for some future Series on Saturday with my team.  I finally got the end tables in from the car and got them cleaned up and into place.  They are big but I like them.

Monday was back to classes followed up by 2 medical appointments.  I ran errands and it rained. At least it wasn’t too cold and I was able to charge the car during classes and one of the med appts.  I was able to finish one audiobook and listen to another complete one. We picked up dinner at CoreLife Eatery because I had a B1G1.  So I faced Monday night with needing to start a new book and a new audiobook which is great but always difficult to choose.

Tuesday was also rainy with just PT. My daughter was feeling really badly (headache and balance issues)  and needed help to go to the appt.  Afterward, she just went to sleep, not even eating lunch.  I spent some time figuring out what looked good in the Audible sale and what I could get at the library or in KU instead.

My daughter stayed up really late to finish her homework and ended up too ill to go to classes Wednesday (so no quilting either).  She did make the online session which is weekly on Wednesday night.  I was happy to have a day at home, but sorry to see her so under the weather. I wrote a couple reviews, paid bills and did some laundry.  I worked on finishing up the photo wall in the dining room. It’s getting there. I had a scratchy throat and a bit of a headache myself.

Thursday was our usual day at home which is always a relief and a chance to get extra rest or progress on some projects. I did some reading in the morning and some blog work in the afternoon. I got really interested in a book and read until 2am.  Friday, my daughter managed to go to 2 of her 3 classes and I got a few groceries. We stopped quick on the way home to do early voting for next Tuesday’s primaries.  I had gone online to Ballotpedia to see a sample ballot and research all the candidates (many state and local). I was surprised by how much they had, at least a little resume on most all of them.  So choose who you want but VOTE! She went right to sleep and then rallied after a few hours to finish a paper which was due to be submitted online.  I was so tired I was asleep before 10pm!

Saturday, neither of us did much, still tired.  I have fallen into the addiction of the Gaslight mysteries and I read 2 in one day! I switched to the ebooks because they switched narrators and I liked the first narrator. So this way I can read and hear the first narrator in my head.

February Reading:  I had another good reading month.  I managed to read 31 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge.  I listened to  18 audiobooks, read 10 library books, 16 COYER reads,   and  6 books which I already own.

All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog)  2020 Library Love Challenge

Bookish Resolutions update:   I’m a little behind because I would have hoped I had broken down my goals more into tasks.     I read many library books I just wanted to read, however.  I created post shells as I got ARCs. I’m still just getting started on the Library Love emails but it is interesting to do.

I did manage to read 6 books I own (goal is 3 per month):

  • Year One
  • Of Blood and Bone
  • The Rise of Magicks by Nora Roberts
  •  No Right to Kill by MA Comley
  • Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs
  • The Deep Blue Good-bye by John MacDonald.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you so much Tantor Audio!

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

OK  I went hog wild here with the Audible series sale.  I got 2 series for even less because I could check out the books in KU and then get them for $1.99 each instead of $5.95.  I also found 5 series I could get at the library on audio.  Then I bought 9 audiobooks from various series at $5.95.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. Enjoy your books, 2 in one day is impressive! Congrats on the new reviewer joining your team, it must be fun to have a group to review with.

  2. I wish Thursdays were my fun days. But they’re actually the most stressful day of the week for me. I start with getting the little one to school and then writing and then driving a half to shakopee, then taking my clients to a play which is another half hour drive and then the drive back.

  3. I still have “The Rise of Magicks by NR” on my TBR. Somehow I am not reading as fast as I used to at the moment and with all the other books coming in from publishers, I have to read them first. But hey, the year is long so there will be much time to read it *smile* I am sorry to hear that your daughter is feeling so unwell. The weather can be a real bitch when you feel it in your bones. I wish her to get well soon. Happy reading and have a wonderful week.

  4. That’s amazing that Sophia is joining you Anne! I thought having help too but so far no one was really free 😉

    • Yes, I only have reviewers on the blog who are people I know. She is going to trade off Wednesdays with Melanie which works for both of them better than an every week slot. It does help me a lot because some weeks I had 5-6 reviews and now I can slow down a bit.

  5. Welcome to Sophia!

I’m sorry your daughter was feeling so poorly this week – sounds like she did her best to push through for school. I hope next week is better for her.

I was JUST working on my ballot for Tuesday. I had hoped to make it to early voting but didn’t, so I’ll have to go on Tuesday.

    Have a great week Anne!

    • Thanks. They had voting even on the weekend but I just don’t want to leave the house on the weekend if I don’t have to go out. I like the unstructured time to work on various projects. Or just read and relax. I took time to research all those state and local people I haven’t really heard of so I could make hopefully better choices.

  6. Wow 31 books in a month? How did you manage that? That’s amazing!!
I’m sorry your daughter didn’t feel all that well. And congrats on the new reviewer.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  7. Yay for adding Sophia to the team! I love her reviews where ever I find them!

Sorry to hear both you and your daughter were under the weather this last week. Hope you feel better this week! It still sounds like you got a lot accomplished. I’m enjoying The Gaslight series as well, but I’m not happy to hear about the change in narrators. I listened to a sample of the newer one and I don’t think I’m going to like the change either, which is too bad because it’s really hard to fit in reads if they’re not in audio form.

    • Exactly! Everything you said is exactly right! We are happy to have Sophia. I actually got to chat with her for about 4 hours on Thursday about books and blogging and it was so fun. I really slacked off this week on chores and projects though. I did devour 3 more books this weekend of Gaslight and I’m sucked into it. I did listen to one whole book with the new narrator and it’s a nope. I’d rather just read and hear the old narrator in my head but yes, it does require a different schedule because most of my week I’m listening to audiobooks while on the run.

  8. Thanks for the generous words of intro, Anne! 🙂 I’m jazzed to be part of the team and talking books with you and about the blog made my week. 🙂
Bummer you guys were under the weather and low energy, but glad your daughter still got her assignments done and you got lots of projects worked on.
Nice monthly total and spread of books from library and your shelves.
I shopped the sale on Friday and did the same thing about seeing if they were at the library first. Ended up only getting a couple that way. 🙂

    Have a good week, Anne!

    • Thanks Sophia! I would have written more about our lovely book and blog talk but I wasn’t sure if I was going to announce this week or in a separate post or what. Then I decided it was too exciting to hold back.

I really did a lot with the Audible sale but the KU deal makes them $1.99 sometimes which is even better than $5.95. My KU ended yesterday but when I cancelled they offered me a deal and I took it. It is just so darn convenient.

      Have a lovely week!

  9. I am so happy to see Sophia joining your team, she is simply wonderful in every way. I am sure she will add the perfect touch to your place.

Looks like you had a great month of reading and yes audiobooks are a great way to get the reading in.

    • yes, it’s very exciting and I couldn’t agree more. I am so grateful to have the people on my team. Robin, Melanie and KC have been with me from the beginning. We are all audiobook listeners and have our own odd niches of books we love but I think every person has an eye for GREAT books.

    • I am also a freebie addict. Getting 6 this week, well I could read 6 a week but not much else.

I use Ultimate Book Blogger for this blog. It has a “template” where you fill in things for every review like the cover, blurb, author , narrator, publisher, genre, series, source, format, challenges, rating, buy links, etc. So I fill in everything but the empty space for the review and rating when I get the ARC. Sometimes I have to wait for some buy links if I get the ARC really early. If it’s an audio, I also include a link to listen to a sample. There are also fields for blog tour stuff and giveaway stuff.

There are other types of posts where I don’t use those things but you just leave them empty on the template.

  10. It will be fun to see Sophia Rose on your blog! It sounds like you had a busy week. I hope your daughter is feeling much better and that you stayed well. I didn’t end up buying any books in the Audible sale. I wanted to but I have so many unread books that I just couldn’t convince myself to do it. I should finish Rise of Magicks tomorrow and look forward to discussing it with you! Have a great week!

    • My daughter is doing better and I didn’t get sick. I did drink a LOT of orange juice on Thurs / Fri / Sat. Monday is our looooong day and we will be beat but I’ll be home all day Tuesday – yay! We have the 2 classes and 2 medical appts tomorrow. For some reason that is just brutal.

  11. I’m sorry your daughter has been feeling so poorly and I hope she is on the mend.

It sounds like you picked up a lot of great books! And I’ve followed Sophia on other blogs, so looking forward to seeing her reviews here.

I finished the Chronicles of the One series this month as well, though I started it when it came out, so I just needed to finish up The Rise of Magicks. It was my favorite book of the trilogy.

  12. That’s quite some week, Anne!
There are a couple of authors that you mentioned that I really like: Angie Fox and Annette Marie. I haven’t read either of those books though as I’ve been staying away from the sales and freebies until I get my TBR pile under control. ?
Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope you have a good week. ?

  13. Sorry your daughter had to deal with vertigo. Hope she’s completely out of it very soon (unless she is already). It usually takes me a couple of weeks though I am mostly functioning during that time.

You definitely seem to have accomplished a lot this week and also read quite a bit. Hope you’re looking forward to a great week ahead!

  14. Sounds like such a busy week. Hopefully your daughter has easier time of it this week. Thirty-one books is amazing! That’s a whole lot of reading. And welcome to Sophia! 🙂

  15. Sorry you guys were feeling under the weather. I can relate as that’s the reason I’m hitting the blogs late this week. I either had a minor flu or at the least a stomach virus for the past three days. That’s a phenomenal amount of books read. You’re slaying it!

  16. Jen

Well I’m a week late stopping by, but sounds like it was a pretty good week. Yea and welcome to Sophia! I love following her around the different blogs she’s at. I probably miss some of them. I love how diverse her reading tastes are! Hope this past week was good and you have a great start to March!
