The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
I forgot to mention last week that my daughter got invited to the Spanish Honor society. You have to have a certain grade point and also have participated in volunteer projects. I’m so proud of her. The ceremony is in April.
We’ve been staying home other than class and medical appointments, which isn’t really so different. Tuesday, my daughter had her final PT appt. Her therapist said she reached all the goals and did better than most people do. We are choosing not to go to quilting lately, both because of my daughter’s class study sessions on Wednesday night, and we’ve been tired. Wednesday, it got so hot later in the day, we turned on the fan to a higher speed in the office and turned the upstairs central air from heat to AC. Thursday, the weather was even warmer. And we were even lazier. I did finish the last Gaslight mystery released, with the next one releasing in April.
We also found out Thursday that after spring break next week – YAY!- they are going to online classes for the next 2 weeks, until April 6. We are both fine with it. We will still have one med appt on Mondays and I’ll get groceries then, but I am really looking forward to the time at home. We agree Lulu will be over the moon with us at home more.
Friday, my daughter went to her 3 classes for the last time for a few weeks and I shopped for a few groceries. I didn’t have any trouble. The food I wanted is apparently not popular. lol She napped. I did paperwork and made chicken pot pie for dinner. Then I was so tired I went to bed just after 10 and slept 10 hours.
Saturday, I relaxed and finished reading a book and wrote its review. I did some other email cleanup and blog post setups. I did get the swiss chard planted as it’s supposed to rain tomorrow. So now we have fall broccoli, spinach and chives. I planted lettuce and chard. I have seeds for snow peas yet to plant this week. The weather is decidedly spring-like in the 60s and 70s (20C+), and rarely below 40 F (5C) at night. I like it.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Thanks so much to DAW Books, Sourcebooks Casablanca, Berkley, HarperAudio and Ace.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
This was my Amazon first reads pick I get with Prime.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Wow, that’s awesome that you’ll have broccoli, spinach and chives. What , I get in my apartment is anything people leave on the railings of the apartment on each floor, which is usually anything from ritz crackers to almost expired fruit and leftover canned items.
We had chives in our scrambled eggs yesterday. You can’t kill chives. I used to leave them outside in a pot in Minnesota. But yes those 3 have lasted through the winter months and are eatable now, in a couple months we will have lettuce, chard and snow peas. I’ll plant tomatoes and green beans and some herbs later. They can’t take any kind of cold weather.
We are all satying home as much as possible too Anne! Stay safe and have a great week despite the Covid madness!
Thank you! I admit I am anxious. I think things will get much worse before they get better I’m going to minimize going out as much as possible but I’d still rather just stay home.
Not a bad week with everything go on in COVID craziness. my sons school and all the district have closed schools until after Spring Break. Witch means remote learning at home. Ah! For a 2nd grader that’s going to be hard, but probably more hard for me.
That’s great on your garden. I’ve worked on my flowers, but haven’t planted any thing this year. Nice book haul this week too. I hope you enjoy them. Take care and happy reading!
Thanks Angela! I want to say appreciate the time with your son but I also know that organizing activities every day for my daughter at that age would have been hard as I was used to working. And she was an amazingly good child. Well I guess I think they are all good kids. Have a great week and stay healthy!
All k-12 schools in Ohio are shut down for 3 weeks and most universities are going to online instruction. I will be teaching digitally for the next 3 weeks. Should be interesting!!
I think it will be very interesting. Do you use a webcast lecture or something or just email assignments and answer questions? How interactive will it be? My daughter’s Spanish class has a session every Wednesday night before this over something like Skype where she interacts with teacher and students and they practice speaking and ask questions. (She tells me it is often just her and no other students, even though there are 60 students in the 2 sections.) She is not sure how her other 2 classes will work. They usually get powerpoints of the lectures for studying. That would have worked for me except when I had questions. I also wonder if it will be more than 3 weeks because at that point another group will be infected and it takes longer to recover than 3 weeks. I think it will be much worse before it is better so we will stay home as much as possible.
I’m always amazed when I read your posts because you are so productive! You go, girl!
Yeah, I’m with you that I’m going to be glad to be home for the next few weeks. Health safety is one for sure, but also, I do so much more when I don’t have to hustle about. So let’s see how this works out.
Thank you! I don’t feel productive this week. I feel lazy and tired and anxious. I had a short space of happiness that we could just stay home but then I just started worrying. I am not a person who is anxious, almost never. I’ve always gone out and worked and figured out how to reach my goals. Of course, I failed sometimes but I learned and found a different way to get there. I’ve never had any kind of anxiety meds like my daughter takes, but I’m definitely feeling worried.
Congrats for your daughter’s honor society invitation!
Thanks, I’m so proud! I hope we will be able to go to the ceremony.
Sounds like the switch is welcome for both you. I never complain about more time at home. 🙂 I also picked up that freebie from Lauren Blakely. I’ve never read anything by her so it’ll be a nice way to try a new author.
I think it will be best to stay home, for now. I like Lauren Blakely and she is definitely got some comedy happening which we can all use right now. I’ve read a few of her books but not enough and not all the ones I own even.
I checked out the freebies for Kindle this week too, but didn’t end up getting any more {I already have the Colleen Hoover ones}. I did however pick up some more audio books from the library, since the checkout limit has been increased.
Congratulations to your daughter on the Honor Society! That’s so exciting!
Thank you! I always have a stack of freebies and library books not to mention all the ones I own so I should be all set.
Congratulations on your daughter’s achievement. That is really something! They are closing schools here next week and have already closed government offices. At least we have our free books to keep us company, right:)
Thank you! I am so proud of her. I am quite happy to be home. I think it’s the best solution for awhile at least.
Sounds like you gals have a good plan to hole up for the rest of the month. I’ve got one grocery run to do next week, but no appointments so I can stay isolated. Hopefully, all the things I need will be there and I won’t have to get creative with the menu planning. Neat that you got some of your garden in. I’ve started some of my seeds up in the big south window, but won’t get them in the ground for almost two months. I was able to clear away the winter dead stuff and of course more leaves that blew in over the winter. I won’t turn over the garden soil just yet though.
You got some good ones in your haul. I picked up a few of those freebies and got some review books. Hopefully my library waiting list book will be my turn this week.
Have a good one, Anne!
Thank you Sophia! Yes it is warmer here than where you live. I’m glad to have even 2 seasons for cool crops and a longer season for the warm ones. Sometimes the season overall was too short in Minnesota. I always had tomatoes ripening on a card table for October – November. I’m excited to have this time to read, relax and do projects without distractions.
I hope you have a great week and are able to get what you need at the store. Stay safe and healthy!
Congratulations to your daughter. I hope the coming week is easier for you – I think we are all worried. Your weather is suddenly very warm, while we are still hoping to avoid frosts… Glad you managed to get your veggies in the ground. I hope you have a peaceful, book-filled week, Anne:)
Thank you! I am hoping for a relaxed week since it is spring break.
My daughter is not thrilled about her college moving to online classes. I think it will work well in a lot of cases but when you are a music major it just doesn’t. I am curious to see what they will come up with. My husband gets off work earlier than I do so he is the one who tackled the store on Friday and it was nuts. I do know know that the dogs are enjoying having all three of us at home. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
I shop MWF while my daughter is in class although I tend to go different places each day. It didn’t get really bad until Friday. My daughter had a thing in elementary and middle school called smart music. It was a software and you had to have a speaker and microphone. She could play along with the music and it would record. She could practice as many times as she wanted and turn in the best recording each week to her teacher. That would be something interesting for her school to do since it was a great tool in music education. Maybe it was only a MN thing? Lulu also loves that we are home but we sleep in later too 🙂 I am happy to be home.
My daughter used Smart Music in middle school as well. Right now, she has 4 classes for a grade and credit that are ensemble groups – Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. We will see what they come up with for these but it will definitely be a different experience than what she thought it would be.
Glad to hear you didn’t have any trouble with grocery shopping, and I can totally understand why you’re trying to stay in. I think it’s best to do that as much as possible. I just planted some potatoes a few weeks back and they’ve started sprouting! I’m so excited. I want to grow more. Carrots, tomatoes, and zucchini. Maybe some peppers.
Yes I want some of those other veggies but it’s too early for a few of them. It’s unlikely to freeze again but it needs to be a bit warmer. Apparently you can’t kill broccoli, and I already knew you can’t kill chives. You could leave it out in MN in a small pot at -20F and it was fine. My daughter REALLY likes the broccoli and would like to plant the entire backyard in broccoli. I want more variety. I’m just happy to stay home. It’s not forever.
I hope you enjoy the slower pace. We’re not really in panic mode but are being more careful in general. I have an underlying heart condition which is managed but always there, and Mr. Barb has asthma so we’re trying to avoid this thing altogether which is looking like it might be impossible. We both also work with the public so there’s that. I finished Eight Perfect Murders and will have my review up tomorrow. I really enjoyed it. Right now I’m reading a MG which came in on Overdrive because it’s a nice easy read – and cute as well. It’s called A Home for Goddesses and Dogs. Hope you both have a great week and congrats to your daughter!
Thank you! Take what precautions you can and stay home as much as possible. I worked in a pharmacy for 4 years dealing almost totally with sick people and never got ill at all. I’m a champion hand washer.
You have some tempting books, and your week sounded good.
Enjoy the upcoming week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
Thank you! I’m kind of stressed but my prep is done and now we can stay home.
Congrats to your daughter on her invitation to the Honor Society. It always nice to be recognized for hard work and achievement. Glad to hear you didn’t have any problems when you went shopping for food. It really surprised me when I went today how empty the shelves are.
Thank you. Yes I normally do a little bit each day MWF while my daughter is at classes and luckily I packed a lot into early in the week. It was really crowded and starting to be empty at Sam’s Club on Friday but I could still get things I wanted.
I’m glad you didn’t have any problems buying groceries. People around here seem to be hoarding pet and baby supplies, so I had to go everywhere to find what I needed. Have a great week!
Thank you! I do get some things like pet food and treats through a monthly Amazon subscription so we will see if they are out of it. Although the pet food is a big bag which lasts 3 months. We tend to have a fair stock of things so I didn’t need as much. I hope if I go once a week now I’ll be able to get basics like milk and eggs.
Glad your life hasn’t gotten too hectic for you. Hope it stays that way!!
Being at home will be great, for a time, instead of 2 hours of driving and waiting in the car while she is in classes or running errands, we can stay home. I was thinking this morning that I can cook so I can use raw ingredients and cook things which actually take time instead of throwing together quick stuff. It will be a nice change.
I’m glad you are doing okay and you aren’t having any troubles with your grocery shopping so far. Here groccery shopping is crazy. I was at the store this morning and all the meat is gone, the vegetables are almost gone, the toilet paper is gone, almost all the freezers are empty.. It’s just weird! It feels like we are in some kind of bad tv show.
Stay safe and happy reading!
Thank you. Yes I saw empty shelves and freezers on Friday. But I had done most of my shopping earlier in the week. I always have a pretty good supply of food And the things I wanted were available. I think part of it is I use more “raw” materials and really cook instead of quicker, packaged stuff? But that doesn’t apply to the meat, that was gone. I already had meat. I did consider salmon because there was plenty and we eat that often but I have a lot of it I already prepped with marinade for grilling or baking in the freezer.
You sound so relaxed LOL, I hope it remains so.
Grocery shopping is my biggest stress factor right now. It takes a lot to feed six of us and the shelves are bare.
Wishing you a great reading week and good health
No I’m worried but I’m happy to be home, to have most supplies. It could and probably will be much worse. I’m the most worried about groceries myself. We will see if I can get the things I want the most when my daughter has her doc appt this afternoon.
That’s wonderful about your daughters honor society! Things are crazy out there so I am glad you are getting some time off. I’ve self quarantined since Wednesday’s run to the grocery. I don’t get out much anyway. I guess everyone is going to working on their tbr. Stay well!
Thank you Lorna! My daughter had a doc appt today and I picked up a few groceries. But next week she can do the appt online so we don’t have have to go out again until March 30 unless we need some grocery or something. I got Walmart pickup today which wasn’t even very busy. But now I was going to set one up for a week from now but they only have today / tomorrow which are unavailable. They used to show 5 days or so. I’ll have to see if I can figure out how to go farther in the future. I was able to get all the things I wanted today milk, eggs, OJ and fresh veggies. So that was good. Stay safe and healthy!
Thank you! You’re lucky your store had those things. Our stores are out of eggs, milk, meat, paper products, cold remedies etc. I was lucky to find what I needed on Wednesday but now they are saying this could go until August!
Congrats to your daughter! I hope that Corona won´t change your plans. Here in Germany we can´t do gatherings anymore as we are now under a special law and rules that hopefully will slow down the spreading of the virus. Despite that happy reading & listening.
Thanks. I hope she gets to have that recognition.
Wishing you good health and safety during this time! My university recently closed to curb the spread of COVID-19, and my younger sister’s school closed as well, so we are getting used to new home routines. I start online classes in a few days, and I am interested to see how those will go over on Zoom. On a different note, I hope you enjoy reading Eight Perfect Murders! I saw that book floating around the blogosphere recently and thought the premise sounded interesting.
claire @ clairefy
Thank you! My daughter has spring break and then online classes. We are being totally lazy this week. I’m listening to Eight Perfect Murders now. It’s interesting so far.
I am looking forward to Grace D’s new book – but I”ll wait for audio. I hope you and your daughter stay safe and healthy!
Thank you! We are just staying home and with spring break week, we are doing a lot of sleeping. I would be reading more but my Kindle died a couple days ago. (: The new one won’t arrive until Saturday, so I have to read on the phone. UGH. And I listen to audio on my phone so it is getting the full workout every day.
I’ve been enjoying the author freebies/sales this week but the coronavirus situation sucks.
I’m glad both you and your daughter aren’t finding it too hard to find the food bits you need. Food shops around here are stripped bare at the moment and we’ve now been given the instruction to start social distancing, WFH, closing schools etc. 🙁
Yes it’s a whole new world. Luckily I usually have some stuff as back up. But it could be rough until things get settled into a new routine for awhile. I wonder how long it will last. I don’t think the 3 weeks we have so far will do it. I think a few months is more likely. It’s fine for us. I hope by mid August for her new session at school things will be more normal. Only time will tell. I’m glad she’s plenty old enough to entertain herself and we both are fairly isolated most of the time anyway.
I enjoyed your post, Anne. You inspired me with your gardening. I wish I had more things planted in times like this when I’d rather not leave my house.
Our garden plot is not very big I may wish it was much larger. My daughter seriously wanted me to plant the entire backyard in broccoli! I’m more of a green bean and spinach person. It’s something I have done often since growing up in a rural community in Iowa. Sometimes I think it’s less expensive to just go to the farmer’s market but I expect less going out this year.
