Sunday Post – 29 March 2020 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality @Tynga

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday, I did my usual blog visiting and laundry. I also placed an Aldi order to be delivered on Wednesday.  The Aldi order was very smooth and the only thing I couldn’t get was milk. I called the pharmacy and ordered refills for all my daughter’s meds and my nasal spray.  I couldn’t settle on any of the books I have due for review to read.  Sigh.

My daughter looked at her emails to check her work for this week of online classes.   The system told her spring break has been extended for a week so the teachers have time to put their lessons online.  I don’t know what that means for the length of time classes will run.  It won’t really matter to us. We had no huge plans for the summer we can’t change.

So we are choosing to just stay home for the long run.  It’s been pleasantly cool with a little rain, and then at the end of the week much warmer.  On Thursday, I finally got out in the yard and did some spring cleanup and mowed the lawn for the first time.  I decided I had to start having a schedule with regular times to get up and go to sleep.  I went back to making a list of things I want to do and actually managed to do some of them.

Lulu really need a bit of trimming and especially needed her toenails trimmed. It took both of us and about an hour of work but we finally managed it. She did get away and run into her crate at one point and we had to coax her out.  Pro tip: Do not wear black socks, black leggings, a black top and black hoodie when trimming a mostly white-haired dog.  I had to dustbuster my slippers too.

Friday, I tried to get our prescriptions filled with a third round of calling the pharmacy and the doctor.  I called the pharmacy originally on Sunday, then followed up on Wednesday with the doctor.  The doctor’s office tells me it was sent Monday. Then the pharmacy says they got it and closed it because insurance doesn’t cover it. (And didn’t communicate with me at all)  The nasal spray I have used for 18 years (I can only use this unscented one because allergies).  So I looked up a GoodRx for the best pricing and transferred the script to that pharmacy. Grrr.  After spending the entire Friday afternoon on the phone, I got my daughter’s RXs all set with 90 day so I was able to pick those up. And when I got home the most expensive one was wrong. UGH

I needed to take my UPS package to their store (my trade-in old Kindle)  and was going to take it when I went to the pharmacy. But I saw a UPS truck 2 doors down from my house so I went and asked the guy if he could take it.  He could!  YAY!  Then I didn’t have to go in that store!

I stayed up late reading Friday night so then I was tired on Saturday.  I finally watched Erin Mallon’s play with narrators on Aural Fixation.  It’s two hours long.  I love Andi Arndt and Shane East so much!   I didn’t do the stuff I was planning on Saturday so hopefully on Sunday after visiting Sunday posts.   Stay home and stay safe my friends.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thanks so much AceRoc DAW,  Ink Slinger PR,  and Simon & Schuster Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

An Audible daily deal for me.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. How frustrating about the prescriptions!! I hope you’re able to get that last one fixed this week without too much (more) hassle.

Oooh Smut is so good! I read it on audio a year or so ago and loved it.

I’ve also found that having a schedule really helps – this isn’t a short term situation so I need to impose some normality into it.

    Have a great, safe week!

    • Thank you! yes the freebies are popping up everywhere. I also think this situation is not short term and am planning accordingly, which includes the making new routines. Some of the changes like getting 90 day Rx and doing some things online is better and I hope some of that is for the long term future. I don’t mean all work or my daughters classes because that’s most of her socialization so I don’t think she should always take online classes. I don’t mind eating down our huge store of food a bit either. We tend to get stuck in a rut and this is helping us try some new things / recipes or bring out some older recipes we forgot to use. I’m normally very organized and functionality oriented so I mostly use the library online and I do have a monthly subscription on Amazon for some things I’m just doing more of the pickup/delivery stuff.

  2. I get so frustrated with pharmacies sometimes. My husband takes a strange medication and sometimes they can’t fill it. The problem is they don’t communicate at all. We have had the same problem with several pharmacies so switching doesn’t really help. So frustrating!

My daughter’s college plans to end classes at the same time even though they took an extra week for spring break. Other colleges might do things differently though.

It looks like you added some great books this week. Stay safe and have a great week!

    • Thank you. I talked to my brother and his family is pretty much all the same with jobs / hours/ salaries. But I worry about the people who lost jobs and their health insurance with it. His youngest is finishing a couple classes in college and apparently in Florida they are going to use Pass/fail instead of letter grades because of the move to online.

yes at least I am getting the amazing books to read!

  3. Ive been arguing with my pharmacy over several prescriptions as well. They said I refilled them (I requested the refill), but they never actually refilled them!! So now its saying I can’t get my refill because I just got it, and yet, I didn’t! GRRRR! Hope you have a great week!

    • Yes every day especially when I go to bed on time and sleep well I think oh I’ll feel normal and energetic but I don’t. I have to force myself to get going on things. Of course, it got into the 80s here the last couple days and I was slow to turn the A/C up so that made me more lethargic. But the rainy cloudy days do that sometimes too This next week looks better with 70s and we’ve only had a little rain every 4-5 days.

Have a lovely week and stay safe and well. Happy reading!

  4. I had to create a schedule and routine for us, too, even if we’re not actually leaving the house. It helps get things done and feel like a productive day. I was thrilled to get all my windows washed even the sun porch for one of my spring cleaning projects. I need to scrub our wood floors next which I’ll do one room at a time since I have to move the furniture around to do it.
I couldn’t settle on a couple review books I had on my list to read and listen to this week so I just skipped them and went to others, Looks like you had a bit of that going on, too.
LOL, white dog and black clothes. That reminds me of my last vet visit with my cat. He gets all nervous and sheds like mad so I was covered. And, he’s only have white.
That’s awful about the pharmacy runaround you got. I’ve had that a few times at the Rite-Aid close to us, but for the most part, they get our stuff filled the same day the doctor sends it over.

    Have a good week, Anne!

    • Well I need to do more to organize my schedule but I couldn’t get myself to do it on spring break time. Hopefully more this week. All your cleaning sounds exhausting to me. Yes I had the shuffle review books around going. I’m finding ebooks easier than audio right now. Who knows why when it’s usually the other way. Our last dog was a poodle with no shedding and Lulu doesn’t shed very much but right now with spring and warmer temps it’s happening a lot more. With our pharmacy mostly done for 90 days, I hope for some peace this week.

Stay healthy, safe and happy reading! I hope your week is great!

  5. We are waiting to hear something about what all her school has in store for her. So many districts already have something in place, but ours seems to be running behind them all. It’s okay. It takes time to get these things set up and figure them out. I am sorry for all the trouble with the pharmacy. That is so frustrating. I hope you enjoy your new books! I am not reading much, unfortunately. Take care and I hope your family continues to be safe and well.

  6. I really sympathise with the mix-up over prescriptions. My sister works at a pharmacy here in the UK and frankly they are buried. Drs brought forward a host of regular prescriptions and last week, every day they got a week’s worth of precriptions coming in from the surgeries and they simply can’t cope. Not when one of their staff has taken time off because her father is dying of the virus… My guess is this is an ongoing issue. They are now shutting every afternoon for 2 hours to try to catch up. I hope you get yours sorted out, anyhow!

Lol… white dog – black clothes… I used to own a golden labrador in another lifetime, so I can relate:). Have a peaceful, healthy week, Anne:)

    • Thank you! It will all work out and then I won’t need anything for around 90 days. That’s why it took more work this go round. Our last dog Gina was a poodle so she didn’t shed at all and she was chocolate. That day was cold so I was wearing black Harley type clothes. This weekend it’s hot 30C but it will get back to a more normal about 20C this week which I prefer.

  7. The pharmacy kerfuffle would have driven me nuts! Why can’t people just use their words and be helpful? *sigh*

We cut our grass for the first time this year this week too. It’s that time of year, I guess. 🙂

Hope this week is a good one for you! I remember seeing Smut years ago and wanting to read it but I never did and then I pretty much forgot about it! Now I’ve seen it again, I’ve just grabbed it on KU. 🙂

    • Yes there’s an explosion of freebies available and I have amazing library access also. I don’t lack for anything to read. The whole pharmacy thing is just frustrating because either people don’t listen and in one case told me something completely untrue which set off a bunch of unnecessary calls. I have the time to do them but it’s emotionally exhausting because I could be doing something else. But now we’re mostly set for 90 days so it’s good.

  8. I’m thankful I don’t have to get meds on a regular basis, because your experience sounds awful! Hope you get it all sorted out. I was in the mountains over the weekend and was able to insta-cart everything on my list within 2hrs! That was so exciting because you can’t even schedule insta-cart for the same day anymore where I live.

I hope you enjoy Smut as much as I did! 🙂

    • Well I mostly have OTC stuff for allergies except for this specific nasal spray. My daughter however has a slew of RX from 4 different doctors, 3 of them specialists. But I have her stuff now. I got an email this morning from one that we see every 3-4 months is able to do telemedicine so we will be all over that. There are some types of doctors where in person visits are important but this isn’t one of them.

I like that author and Smut has come recommended now by a few others. We will see. I’m moody and my contemporary romance reading is a bit more limited right now. I always lean more to romantic suspense.

That’s awesome! I’ve had good luck with instacart also. I think maybe as we are a smaller city. (Raleigh NC)

    • Freebies have exploded. Usually the Rxs are no problem. But one of the only ones I have, they don’t cover this year. Luckily, it is only about $40 a month rather than $170 it was a couple of years ago when I didn’t have insurance for a month.

Thank you! At least, I have plenty of great things to read.

  9. Lots of great deals on eBooks now since everyone is stuck at home. I picked up a bunch of freebies this month. I finally read this weekend after a 2 1/2 week slump. Having everyone home 24-7 is stressful especially since I have to be a teacher for son who’s in 2nd grade. So far it’s gone well with one major meltdown.
Take care and stay healthy! Happy Reading.

      • That is great you don’t have to worry about teaching your kid. I’m kinda back on, but still moody. I haven’t wrote any reviews in 2 months only my initial thoughts on the books I have read.

  10. I hear you on not wearing black while grooming a light colored dog. My son and I were attempting to groom our golden retriever today and by the time we were done, we were practically as hairy as the dog, lol. I hope you enjoy The Honey Don’t List when you read it. I was starting to slide into a reading slump but that one pulled me right out of it. I hope you and your family stay safe and well. Have a wonderful week!

  11. Sounds like I would have lost patience with the pharmacy. I’ll admit to being a tad short-tempered lately. I’m glad you were able to catch the UPS guy though. I managed to clean off one bookshelf one day last week and purged over 100 books. I just can’t take them anywhere to donate right now so into the attic they go. At least I felt accomplished. We’ve only been making one grocery/store run a week but Mr. Barb is still working as he is technically a first responder. Hope your daughter’s schooling goes well. Sorry for the late comments – it’s been a trying few days. Stay safe and I’m still up for the buddy read.

    • I’m just thrilled to have a comment, so no worries. Yes, sometimes I should be following through more promptly, or with the pharmacist rather than the call centers. Yes I want to do the buddy read. I’ll try to get more organized this week. I’d like to get groceries only every 2 weeks but I seem to need something every week.

  12. Jen

Wait… what is “Erin Mallon’s play with narrators?” I don’t know about this… Something to listen to or watch? What genre? Glad you three are surviving. It’s going to be a while.

    • Erin Mallon wrote a romantic comedy and then did the play online (watch and listen) with some software with every “actor” in a box on the screen. Erin Mallon was the overall narrator of the scene info. The “actors” were Amy Daws, Shane East, Andi Arndt, Emma Wilder, Teddy Hamilton and Joe Arden. It was only up until last Saturday night so it’s gone now. It was very cute and funny.

Yes it’s going to be awhile. I’m really loving the online stuff for some appts, less driving. But that used to be when I ran my errands. I’ll have to think about that going forward, after this crisis.

I hope you all are well and safe. Have a great week!

  13. That such a good idea to make a list of things you’d like to do. I really should do that too. I always have so many things I want to do, but when I have the time I can’t seem to think of any.

Yikes, getting those prescriptions sounds very frustrating. I hope it worked out in the end.

I hope your week has gone well so far.

    Stay safe and happy reading.
