The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

I started the week unmotivated as usual.  There were several worries keeping me uncertain. Happily, things went well!  Monday afternoon, the registrar called to apologize for not being more helpful.  She told me there would be a voucher for the class where my daughter needed to withdraw because it changed to online.  Not only that, but since there was only one section this fall she opened up registration for my daughter so we could be sure she could get into it.  I would have had to get up early Friday to register at 7am, and worry all week. Instead, I got to register her for all her preferred classes on the first day of registration!

Feeling relieved, I went on to finally tackle more problems.    I started our tax returns, which I was going to do it over spring break but that was right when the whole COVID stay home thing started.  I continued on Tuesday and finished things up with only one minor conundrum which I solved.

Wednesday, my brother texted me (before I was up) to tell me which of his family members got $1200.  I checked my account and sure enough it was there. We got a delivery order from BJ’s. We scored toilet paper, paper towels and liquid hand soap.  No Lysol wipes on either my Amazon Subscribe & Save where I order them monthly or at BJs.  With my fresh deposit, I doubled the tip to the Instacart shopper.  I also used WD-40 to fix 2 doors which had been creaky when opening.

Thursday, my car, which has been in the garage, had a flat tire.  I talked to AAA and they came out and just put air in it.  Then I went to Discount Tire because they will fix a flat for free! Unfortunately,  my front tires were both shot with the steel belts showing through, so I ended up purchasing 2 new tires  They do a good job and I have bought tires from them before in Minnesota.   They also let me stay in the car except when I went in to pay and really made the distancing easy. I ran by Home Depot to get a tomato plant, marigolds, herbs and impatiens. Then to the pharmacy drive-thru. I wore a bandana since I haven’t had time to make masks but it never feels good to go out now.

Friday , I was pretty lazy and it was a little cold.  I mostly relaxed and did some reading.  Saturday, I finally got through emails and then I planted things.  I did a buddy read with Stephanie of Hour of Need by Melinda Leigh this past week, and now I’ve started The Stranger by Harlan Coben with Barb.  I found fabric scraps which would work for masks so I hope to get those made in the next day or so.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thanks so much to InkslingerPR, Berkley, and Penguin Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

Apparently I am only interested in English mysteries for this Audible $5 sale.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. i’m so glad you double tipped. I tried instashopper as a worker, and it is hard!!!!Now a days, finding the items that even come close to the ones customers request is difficult. Now I’ll be looking for my check..congrats.

  2. Congratulations, Anne, on getting that school registration orchestrated? That was tough.

You’re reminding me I need to look at getting back to Mooney’s Darby McCormick series. He’s such a good writer. You’ve scored some great titles this week. I’ve also wanted to start Bryndza’s series, too, having nominated it countless times for a group read. From what I read, you’re in for a really good time.

Have a fantastic week and continue staying safe?

    • Thank you! That school registration is a key thing in my life a couple times of year until it is done. The planning is fun but the waiting to see if we can get those classes is torture. I was worried because TTH classes are popular and great if we go to campus because only 2 days a week instead of 3 days.

Yes I continue to get such amazing reads and if only I could just read all the time. But there are still other pesky house chores I need to do. Lawn mowing needs to come to the front again soon.

  3. What a relief with your daughter’s classes! I feel like things like that are happening more easily right now, as people try to work together when they can.

I wish I had a sewing machine so I could make some masks. We bought some from etsy though and they came quickly, so that was good. With Kiko working, we bought several so he can wash them and use a new one every day.

Stay safe and have a great week!

  4. Yay for getting the return on the class and getting the fall scheduled. I need to WD40 one of our doors and a pantry drawer that are annoying me lately. Looks like a good grocery haul this week. I went on Tuesday and was able to get everything, but Corriander and I can make do without it for a bit. I have a home-made mask that a gal from my husband’s work made him that was too small so he bought it anyway and gave it to me since he has masks in his work bag (for frigid weather, but they work for this, too).
I don’t recognize a few books in your haul so I need to check them out.

    Have a great week, Anne!

  5. The Girl in the Ice was a wonderful thriller. I really enjoyed it. Looking forward how you will find it. I am happy to hear that you could register you daughter for all the classes she wants to attend. Ah yes, the masks. I knew they would be a challenge for me, but I did not realize how warm it becomes behind the fabric while wearing them. Ugh. Stay safe and healthy!

  6. Anne I am always impressed by how “handy” you are (is that the correct term?) . You build and repair so many things yourself I am in awe! And WD40 is pretty moch the solution to everything here in Belgium too LOL Have a wonderful week!

  7. Sounds like a good week, given the current circumstances! Several successes, and you even got some new plants. I’m glad you were able to get your tire issues solved, too. Sounds like the stimulus check came just at the right time.

Have a good week and good luck with your mask-making!

  8. WD40 is a wonderful invention! I think everyone has a tin (or they should). 🙂
Glad you got your daughter’s classes sorted.

I heard about your government issuing $1200 to people. Our government isn’t doing anything like that but it’s put in many measures to protect jobs and ensure people who are unable to do their job at the moment are paid a minimum of 80% of their salary (by the government) to just stay at home rather than get laid off. The scheme is available until the end of June. I figure that’s not too shabby at all but there’s still those who’re complaining about it not being enough…

    • I’m so happy my daughter’s classes are set. $1200 is a small amount and only a one-time thing. That would not make one mortgage payment even, say for April so if we are home until June I’d have 2 more months and nothing for utilities and food. Some people like my brother and his wife have their regular income and less gas money and eat at home is cheaper so it’s a bonus for them. But others it’s all they get if they lost their job, unless they can get unemployement which wouldn’t be the whole salary for them. I’m worried about a lot of people. I’m fine though.

  9. It is never fun buying tires. I usually find myself having to buy them at the worst possible times. I am glad your daughter was able to get in all of her classes. I haven’t seen my stimulus money yet and don’t expect to for some time. I usually pay the government a little bit on my taxes so I bet I am a bit down on the list. Enjoy your buddy reads! I really enjoy Harlan Coben and loved The Stranger! Have a great week and stay safe!

    • Any kind of car trouble is trouble. But I had the whole day to deal with it so it was ok. Better at home than out and about or even worse, on a trip. I just finished the Stranger. Wow. I was worried sick for Adam. Such as sad outcome but it could have been much worse for him and his kids in many ways. I always enjoy Coben.

  10. Glad everything worked out for registration. One less thing to stress about! I haven’t gone anywhere in over a week. We have had our groceries delivered and everything. I have to go fill out some new hire paperwork for my new school district on Tuesday. Have a great week!

  11. Glad to hear you were able to get your daughter registered without much hassle. That was nice!

Nice of you to double the tip for your Instacart person. They’ve really been working hard. Hope your new plants grow nicely! 🙂

    • I’m so glad it worked out. Thank you! Well I did accidentally buy a cabbage instead of broccoli plant which I’m going to have to get broccoli instead because my daughter doesn’t like cabbage and she wants me to plant the entire backyard in broccoli but I only have so much space for gardening where I have put good soil so that’s another trip to get the right thing. Sigh.

  12. You have dealt with all sorts of issues this week – your energy and can-do determination always awes me:). Congratulations for having sorted out your daughter’s classes – that must be such a major deal. And the tyres… Fortunately we have local family business we go to and miraculously they are still open – but still… nothing is straightforward like that, anymore. I hope you have a great week – and get a chance to put your feet up a bit, Anne. You deserve it!

  13. Glad your week turned out to be less stressful than originally thought. It was cold here all last week, until yesterday when it was finally walking weather, and man, did I take advantage. Stay well!

    • Thanks so much! I am happy to finally do some things that have been hanging over my head. Now on to the next pile of procrastinations. Although I never put off a moment on my daughter’s classes, only the taxes and some other things I finished. I have got so many great books, now if I can get my moody reading under control.

    • yes the spinach, lettuce, broccoli and snow peas are ones that can handle it. Not the tomatoes, herbs or green beans. Our season is long enough, we can have two plantings. I’ve only just planted the tomatoes and herbs. Our broccoli we planted last September made it throughout the winter including freezing temps and also snow, and we ate some in November, January and March.

  14. Wow, you were busy. I’m glad you got your daughter registered for school. That was always a big hassle. I really enjoyed The Stranger and am glad we picked it up. Hope you have a wonderful week and hey, at least you had a flat while you were at home.

    • Yes I was so happy to get my daughter’s classes set. I loved listening to the Stranger with you even though I started off behind. It worked out in the end. Yes it was better to deal with the flat on a day I planned rather than being out and in the middle of a bunch of errands and appts.

I’ve been having a few of those days lately. Usually I try my hardest to keep my mind busy , but things this past week just got me a little down. Hopefully, God willing, all things work out. Good to hear about your daughter, good news right now is always great news. Hope the good vibes have continued throughout the week.

Wow, great! you got the check. You’re the first person I’ve heard that received it. Enjoy all the incoming 🙂
