She wants to steal his Van Gogh. He wants to steal her heart.

Some people would call Clementine Abernathy a criminal. She considers herself a modern day Robin Hood, who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Not exactly on the up-and-up, but she knows what it’s like to lose everything. Her latest heist involves swiping a priceless Van Gogh from its owner, who’s supposed to be an egotistical trust-fund brat.

Turns out Jack David is a sexy, kind-hearted man…and Clementine is in trouble. Falling for her mark would make her the World’s Dumbest Conwoman, but Jack is charmingly persistent, always singing sweet songs in her ear.

And that earth-shattering kiss? She never stood a chance.

Now she’s imagining a fresh start with this dashing man, but that means telling Jack about her past. And other nefarious sorts are after the same painting. Too soon, Clementine learns what it means to risk it all for love.

I was worried about Don’t Go Stealing My Heart because the set up felt like someone was bound to get hurt. I was definitely in suspense.

I love the characters. While Clementine is a thief, she does it with the best intentions of protecting children. I appreciated her skills and her intelligence. She had a rough upbringing and has a few self confidence issues. However, she is growing and becoming tired of always having to lie about who she is and what she does.  And then she meets Jack.

Jack is quite a guy and has his own childhood issues.  Now he’s having to lie to his best friend and the town because his father is dying. He can’t have people get skittish when so many depend on the company for their livelihood.  He’s working hard to improve the technology to advance the company’s future. And then he meets Clementine.

I love their attraction and how the relationship develops with them allowing themselves to be vulnerable with each other.  As their personal projects come down to the wire, things get exciting and they have to make choices. Other people throw in their own twists which had me reeling.  What an exciting, endearing story!

About Kelly Siskind

A small-town girl at heart, Kelly moved from the city to open a cheese shop with her husband in northern Ontario. When she’s not neck deep in cheese or out hiking, you can find her, notepad in hand, scribbling down one of the many plot bunnies bouncing around in her head. She laughs at her own jokes and has been known to eat her feelings—gummy bears heal all. She’s also an incurable romantic, devouring romance novels into the wee hours of the morning.

I was really worried, like you, about the lying, knowing it would crush the relationship… I love how the author played out the storyline – well done. Such a wonderful story. Great review.
