The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Sunday was the last day of gorgeous weather with wind from the north before 5 days of rain. So I got out in the yard to plant m first grass seed on a patch the utility company dug up last fall. Then I picked the last of the lettuce and put in a new bag of composted soil and planted green beans.
Monday I got someone else’s order from Instacart. They didn’t charge me and immediately did a re-order. They told me to donate or whatever from the wrong order. Most of it we couldn’t do anything because of allergies. But I got 2 pounds of butter, some mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. I gave the rest to my neighbor and my own order came an hour later. Then I had to go get a script from the not drive-thru pharmacy. I tell you I am wiped out. It is raining though which is great for the new grass and green beans.
I enjoyed the rain and cool temps as I waited to hear about the HVAC. I also did more cooking and baking. I made monster cookies which have oatmeal, peanut butter, raisins, chocolate chips and M&Ms. Another favorite we had was chicken pot pie. My daughter does Twitch streams for gaming and other online events for beading and jewelry-making. She bragged about my chicken pot pie and got me to say I would post the recipe. I don’t know all about copyright laws but I note where the original recipe was found, although I often modify recipes to be gluten-free and adjust to our tastes.
My daughter had her midterm this week; she’s halfway through her summer online class. We had scheduled dentist appointments but I cancelled them because we aren’t going out yet. She sort of fell apart after her midterm a bit and I felt more tired once the heat came back.
Poor Lulu. She’s tired too. I get up about 8-9 and she starts with me. Then about 6pm lately my daughter gets up and starts playing with her and keeping her busy until she goes to bed about 6am. So that means she sleeps in her crate something like 6-9am. No wonder she just wants to lay on the sofa some mornings after I take her outside!
The blanket got off to a wrong stitch somehow so I ended up frogging it back on Thursday night and then getting the stitches going on the pattern Friday night. I found the best bag for the 3 big cones of wool we are using. The bag is from Mood Fabrics where we like to go when we visit NYC.
No good information on the HVAC yet. It’s going to get hot this weekend and next week. I had a Walmart pickup scheduled for Friday but cancelled it because too many items we wanted were out of stock. Plus we already had so much food. Saturday was about 80F /27C but it was going to be much hotter the next few days 90F/ 32C plus some days might rain so I went ahead and mowed the lawn. I watered the new grass patch and will have to on Sunday also since it won’t rain til Monday again.

Find Me is my Prime Free Read Choice. Scared to Death is a 99¢ deal on Chirp.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

I adore chicken pot pie but I’m the only one in my family who likes it. But I’m tempted to try your recipe! Hope you have a wonderful week?
Thank you! We love it as a one-dish kind of meal. It’s a way to get in more veggies. You could use fresh or substitute others but this is the way we like it. It’s relatively easy and not too heavy. We prefer just the one crust on the top.
Wow! Look at those freebies, what a bonanza? Enjoy all of them, Anne.
I, too, enjoyed the cooler temperatures and the rain. My hydrangeas look better than they ever have. I planted them over 20 years ago, one a blue Nikko variety and love looking at them.
Have a fantastic week and good luck with the HVAC!
Thank you! It’s been 20 days without the HVAC. So hopefully it’s time enough for them to progress. We have been doing ok especially since the cool weather gave me a break to do some cooking / baking It’s weird because last week there were no freebies and this week there were so many great options.
I’ve never made chicken pot pie so I’m curious about your recipe. I’ll have to check it out. Enjoy your new books this week!
Thanks! This is a simplified version of pot pie, and the way we like it. You could use different veggies. We just use the one crust on top.
We had a terrible issue with instacart yesterday (the first time we have used it). they didn’t have most of our order so I went online to check the receipt and it was for a totally different order. The stuff she brought us was what was available from our order, but what we were charged for was a different order. She marked everything on our order as “Out of Stock” and then replaced it with a bunch of random stuff that we didn’t get. So, we ended up with like $40 worth of actual stuff, and were charged for $120 worth of stuff we didn’t order or receive. After spending an hour on the phone with Kroger, they think she shopper was mixing up orders and they would refund us our money (they were going to charge us for everything on our original list even though we didn’t get it). Needless to say, we won’t be using instacart again. I’m hesitant to even go to krogers again!
I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. Ours have mostly been great. This one was just completely the wrong order. But they fixed it. It just was frustrating and took more time. I had other things I wanted to do. I try to stay online on my phone or computer to chat with them and pay attention to any substitutions they try to make. I also select substitutions in advance or choose Don’t replace on every item.
I know what a chicken pot pie is but never made one myself. So to see your recipe would be wonderful. But no pressure here *smile* We have only some weeks left before summer vacation is here. And that feels totally strange to us all because kids were out of school since mid-march and no plans for the summer. Traveling to a faraway destination is no option so I guess summer at the balcony it is *smile* Happy reading and happy gardening!
Thank you! The pot pie recipe is linked up on the word recipe. It is also under a new menu tab labelled recipes.
You planned around the temps very well. That was good that Instacart mishap was fixed and you could give some to the neighbor. Fun, that your daughter’s friends wanted your recipe. We tore out rotted boards on the far side of the garage, replaced, and painted, but we cut out work each day around noon and focused on cooler tasks.
That is a neat bag for your knitting wools.
I got the new Melinda Leigh, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Last week was great weather for me. This week will be rougher. I try to keep working on projects but it’s hard when I’m hot and tired. I don’t sleep as well when I’m hot. I’m not doing any of my own knitting right now as I am the fixer on both of my daughter’s projects. lol Her friend also think it’s cool I’m a book blogger.
Have a great week. Take care and stay well!
I would love trying chicken pot pie! And yes our dogs have their lives all changed with the lockdown LOL
Feel free to try the recipe. Poor Lulu. She was just sleeping at my feet since my daughter is not up yet. Now I think she ran off to sit in front of my daughter’s door.
I’ve been tempted to try Instacart, but so far it’s been pretty easy to order from the store and do curbside pickup. Sometimes they give us bizarre and yucky substitutions though. I currently have a freezer full of weird-tasting banana ice cream. Have a good week!
It’s been mostly good except for 2 out of like 15 deliveries. I usually put Don’t replace so I don’t get bad substitutions.
Looks like some great reads! I have 20 books in for this year but just haven’t been able to concentrate on reading since the Covid 19 stuff started. Sounds like your weather there is the same as our’s in Florida. Hope you have a great week. Stay safe and keep cool 🙂
I’m reading about the same but I’m much more moody! I think it’s a bit cooler here but it’s still going to be hot this week.
I hope this coming week isn’t as rough as you fear – but those temperatures must be very draining! And poor Lulu clearly is burning the candle at both ends… I hope the coming week is a good one for both of you. Perhaps you can take it a bit easier.
Thank you! I think I will be slower because of the heat. But a more relaxed week might not be a bad thing.
Ah, Mood Fabrics! I remember that place from watching early days of Project Runway 🙂 Thanks for the chicken pot pie recipe and dinner idea. Love it and will try your version. Enjoy your latest.
Thank you! We have been enjoying Mood Fabrics for many years now. I hope the pot pie works for you.
We haven’t rescheduled our dental appointments yet either. Trying to decide when those things are worth it.
I’m having a hard time believing much of anything is worth going out right now. I mean we do pickup but we don’t go inside places.
That’s good the Instacart corrected the order so quickly. I’ve yet to give them a try. I had a dental appointment scheduled back in April but postponed. I’m not sure when I’ll be ready for that. Not being able to wear a mask while someone is so close to my face does not give me a good feeling.
Yes at least they wear masks even before this my dental folks did. I have been happy with Instacart overall.
We enjoyed sunny skies and low humidity all week but now it’s high chances of rain for several days. I managed to enjoy some pool time!
YAY I’m glad you got some pool time. We are heating up this week. I have low expectations for getting anything accomplished. Although I am expecting a daylily shipment and I’ll have to prep the yard and plant them, as well as water them, the garden, the new grass patch.
Happy to see that you got some good time in the garden….its such a experience to be able to do that. And look at all those books you grabbed up. I love Talia Hibbert so much. And I need to grab up Melinda Leigh.
Yes I’m really enjoying my little garden. I can’t complain as I pretty much get all the great books.
I’ve been thinking about grabbing Find Me. I’ve read some things by that author before and really enjoyed them. I do hope the HVAC gets sorted out soon. We have some higher temps and lots of humidity but I did manage to get the flower garden all done this weekend (had to lay mulch, hang lights, etc.). It;s where the puppers are buried and we have their headstones there.
Hard to believe summer session is half done. Wow, time flies.
Well I’m not sure I would say summer is half done. I mean it was the summer solstice yesterday so it might be considered the start of summer. But with school starting mid August for the fall session, it seems that way. I’m looking forward to 2 days of north wind starting tomorrow so I can get the bed prepped for the daylilies I ordered since they have shipped now.
Our luck with Instacart has been mixed too. Usually they do okay but last week they delivered our order two houses down from where we live. Thankfully we know the people who live there and were able to get it from them but no clue how they delivered to the totally wrong house number. We had some nice cooler days last week too and loved it. The hot temps are back this week though.
Yes the hot is back. But the next 2 days have a north wind coming so I hope to do some yard stuff. It doesn’t actually feel as horrible as I thought it might today.
