Sunday Post – 28 June 2020 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality @Tynga

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday started out getting hotter.  When I took Lulu out, I saw the green beans have sprouted!  Monday things continued to heat up so I am not doing much.  I’m trying to work ahead on some posts and to update my challenges a bit before the end of the month. Tuesday I slept 8 hours but still could barely get up and went back to sleep for 2 hours.  I did do some paperwork and call again about the HVAC. 21 days now.   Lulu and I went out on the swing and watched the fireflies  The swing was creaking so I went in and got the WD-40 which fixed it up.

I got up earlier on Wednesday because with the north wind for a half day I want to prep the beds for the daylilies which would be arriving sometime that day.  I pulled weeds and put down new composted dirt.  I also got on tasks like calling the pharmacy for my daughters refills, making appts at the chiropractor and very sadly, requesting the refund for my Doobie Brothers concert tickets.  I just couldn’t see myself going out to a concert with all those people, most not wearing masks,  this year.  I did plant my new daylilies and have added them to the watering agenda on the days it doesn’t rain.

It felt like a battle this week between the HVAC, and AT&T tried to raise my monthly bill even though I had their summary in writing saying it would be a certain price for 12 months (through Dec 20). They did add HBO Max for the new deal they found for me. Let me know if there is something I should watch since I have no idea.  My home insurance bill increased by 20% for the next year and I had calls with questions.  It’s always something.

Thursday was nice but we didn’t get the expected rain.  I did a Walmart pickup and an Instacart delivery.  Walmart didn’t have the lettuce I wanted and since that is all I want to eat when it’s hot without HVAC I decided to order some.   I made a spicy shrimp alfredo we like for dinner and started a chilled raspberry tart.

Friday, we had a doc appt, then I picked up some more supplies at Home Depot and our favorite Chinese takeout since we left the house.  I can’t believe the green beans which just surfaced last Sunday are already 8 inches high!  One big tomato has a blush of color!

I got lots of great ARCs this week so I set up the post shells for them plus whatever else I could for July.  I started working on my challenge updates for next Sunday.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thanks so very much Penguin Audio!!, Ace Roc books,  Tantor Audio, and Thea Harrison.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

NOTHING.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. Wow those green beans grew fast! Hopefully you will have AC soon. I hear July is suppose to be miserable.
I can’t believe concerts are even permitted to happen. That seems like a disaster!
    Stay safe!

  2. Oh my goodness – you are busy with the garden! I think you are wise to get your tickets refunded, given the way things are going – it’s a real shame. But perhaps when this is over, you can treat yourself to another super concert… You have had yet another great haul and I, too, am looking forward to getting hold of Peace Talks… Have a peaceful week, Anne – and hopefully, a bit more rain!

  3. You are a trooper for not turning into a puddle without air in the summer. Yes, always something with billing companies raising their rates for things. We do battle with Comcast over that sort of thing. Your shrimp dish sounds delicious.
And, those garden beds so nice.

What a good haul! I got two of those freebies, too- Cherish Hard and the Melissa Foster.

Have a great week, Anne, and hopefully that HVAC company will get back with you.

  4. I can understand wanting something cool and fresh to eat being without air conditioning! I hope you get it fixed soon. It’s also been hot here and I can’t imagine not having it. Awesome that your green beans are sprouting!

Oh, I’ll have to check out the Nalini Singh freebie!

  5. Oh boy you would think with everything going on that prices wouldn’t go up, but then thats business for you. Such a pain though, my rent is going up so I am so not happy about that. But it is what it is and life goes on. I haven’t been a fan of HBO, but it looks like they have some good movies on there. Hope you find some good things to watch on there.

    • Thanks. I watched something on HBO this afternoon to try it out. Contagion. It has Matt Damon. It has similarities to what’s going on with COVID only not the same and it’s fiction, of course. It was fun for me as it started in Mpls and I knew many places having lived there for over 30 years. I have noticed that while I can get some things with hunting them down they are more expensive.

    • Before the green beans, there will be tomatoes! The one that looked like a blush is nearly red today and 2 more have a blush! I like winter here. Actually the long spring and fall seasons are why I moved here. Really hot summer and cold winter are only about 2 months each. The other 8 months are delightful.

    • oh yes you need to read the Harry Dresden series if you haven’t! It’s because the first books are coming out after 4 years that you are seeing him. I got them all on audio at the library first and then bought them. They are EXCELLENT on audio.

I don’t get up early enough to do the morning weeding so I do it after dinner. For some reason, the bugs haven’t been a problem.

  6. Yay about the green beans sprouting. I also noticed at the supermarket since quarantine the prices are up 🙁 they know people will buy alot more now regardless.
Enjoy your books this week and stay well. Watching fireflies sounds nice.

  7. Oh my goodness, I can’t believe the AC issues continues. Crazy! I feel you on the concert tickets. We had tickets for Elton John in May but obviously it was postponed. It’s being rescheduled for next year but honestly I don’t know how I feel about it. The thought of being packed in an arena with 15,000 people… even 9-10 months down the road… I no longer feel good about it. I might just end up getting a refund.

    • I love them because they are easy and cover their area which helps keep out weeds. I got all rebloomers, like the original yellow ones Stella de Oro, then Happy returns etc. But these are in lavenders, pinks, whites, etc. I wish they would bloom this fall but it’s more likely next year.

  8. Jen

It really is always something, right? It’s like a never-ending battle. But at least there are the joys – like a new DRESDEN FINALLY!!! I’m so excited. It’s my next listen. *happy sigh*

    • Yup. It is now scheduled for Friday install which will be 33 days without AC. And it’s 90., getting hotter for the 4th so just in time. I am loathe to run the oven or cook, so I’ll be glad to be able to cook something again. I could have had installed something sooner but it would cost me $3000 more without waiting for the warranty company.
