Murderbot wasn’t programmed to care. So, its decision to help the only human who ever showed it respect must be a system glitch, right?

Having traveled the width of the galaxy to unearth details of its own murderous transgressions, as well as those of the GrayCris Corporation, Murderbot is heading home to help Dr. Mensah—its former owner (protector? friend?)—submit evidence that could prevent GrayCris from destroying more colonists in its never-ending quest for profit.

But who’s going to believe a SecUnit gone rogue?

And what will become of it when it’s caught?

My favorite rogue Sec Unit is back and it and doing the unthinkable…caring for a human.  Dr. Mensa is in a bind and my favorite cyborg Murderbot will have to kill a few people to save her.  Murderbot will step away from watching media to protect its favorite stupid human who seems to be in danger all the time.

Narration:

Kevin R. Free is once again the voice of Murderbot and perfect at it.

Elisa is a hero.

She led her people to victory over a terrifying, sorcerous army. Her place as the country's ruler should be secure. But it isn't.

Her enemies come at her like ghosts in a dream, from foreign realms and even from within her own court. And her destiny as the chosen one has not yet been fulfilled.

To conquer the power she bears, once and for all, Elisa must follow a trail of long-forgotten—and forbidden—clues, from the deep, hidden catacombs of her own city to the treacherous seas. With her go a one-eyed spy, a traitor, and the man whom—despite everything—she is falling in love with.

If she's lucky, she will return from this journey. But there will be a cost.

Crown of Embers is my favorite book of the Fire and Thorns Trilogy.  Elisa isn’t doing a perfect job or running the country she inherited but she is trying to find a way through the political machinations of those around her, avoid being assassinated and figure out how to use the Godstone she has been given to save her people.  This series is really underrated YA and worth a read.

Narration:

Jennifer Ikeda does a fantastic job with the expressing all of the characters in this series.

I’m usually alone in my head, and that’s where 90 plus percent of my problems are.

It calls itself Murderbot, but only when no-one can hear. It’s a private joke. Funny.

It doesn’t care, it tells itself, and its attachment to the humans around it is merely professional obligation.

It tries to never drop the F-bomb.

“Friends.”

Ugh.

So, when its human associates (not friends, never friends) are captured and another not-friend from its past requires urgent assistance, Murderbot must choose between inertia and drastic action.

Drastic action it is, then.

Another F-bomb.

“Feelings.”

Ugh.

The first full length novel involving my favorite Murderbot Cyborg, brought back together with and Asshole Research Transport or ART to save Art’s crew.  Always an adventure and whoever thought that Murderbot might have some feeling deep down, like really deep and mostly related to media but almost like a real boy feelings.

This was a fun journey into really opening up where this series could go and adding depth to a lot of the characters in it.

Some places are too good to be true. Under a pink moon, there is a perfect little town not found on any map. In that town, there are quiet streets lined with pretty houses, houses that conceal the strangest things.

After a couple years of hard traveling, ex-cop Mona Bright inherits her long-dead mother's home in Wink, New Mexico. And the closer Mona gets to her mother's past, the more she understands that the people of Wink are very, very different....

From one of our most talented and original new literary voices comes the next great American supernatural novel: a work that explores the dark dimensions of the hometowns and the neighbors we thought we knew.

S T R A N G E.  That is the best way to sum up this story.  It was odd and unique and I had to know all the things.  A town that can’t be found on any map.  A pink moon in the sky.  A strange creature with a rabbit skull head killing people. Spots no one is allowed to go unless you have an ‘arrangement’.  And more weirdness to boot.  Not my favorite novel by Robert Jackson Bennett but interesting.

Narration:

Graham Winton portrayed this story well.

Elisa is a fugitive.

Her enemies have stolen the man she loves, and they await her at the gate of darkness. Her country is on the brink of civil war, with her own soldiers ordered to kill her on sight.

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Lucero-Elisa née Riqueza de Vega, bearer of the Godstone, will lead her three loyal companions deep into the enemy's kingdom, a land of ice and snow and brutal magic, to rescue Hector and win back her throne. Her power grows with every step, and the shocking secrets she will uncover on this, her final journey, could change the course of history.

But that is not all. She has a larger destiny. She must become the champion the world has been waiting for.

Even of those who hate her most.

I do love it when series end well and Rae Carson wrapped this one up beautifully.  Elisa has come so far as a woman, a Queen, the barer of the Godstone and leader of her people.  The exciting conclusion will include a trip into the heart of the enemy.  Questions are answered and some still remain a bit of a mystery but who are we to know why the barer is chosen and what their service will mean later.  Even though this series seems like it has some religious leanings I loved the way it was part of the story but was never preachy.

Great conclusion to a series.

You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women - including me - on an ice planet.

And the only native inhabitant I've met? He's big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me...

So my new brain candy kink is big blue aliens with horns and tails.  Who knew I liked blue males.  Bring on all of the SciFi alien smut please.  I love the idea of a parasite that helps you live and picks out the best mate for you.  Way to get around insta-love Ruby Dixon.

Narration:

Hollie Jackson and Mason Lloyd do this dual PoV series some great lip service.  I really had a great time throughout the narration.

Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She's never known any others of her kind. Until now.

An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River - one that her father's people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help...

River Marked is one of those books that shows me how much my reading has grown over the last few years.  I remember not liking this book as much due to all of the Native American lore in it.  Yet this time around I enjoyed all the lore and the change up of monsters Mercy has to deal with on her honeymoon no less.  Loved learning more about where Mercy came from and who her real father is along with meeting some other Walkers of Life.

Welcome to a tale of love, adventure, and organ theft.

In this charming, scripted audio crime comedy, Samantha Dugan (D’Arcy Carden) and Abe Lally (Sam Richardson) are best friends and partners in crime. They steal kidneys. Like all jobs, it’s complicated. Despite being Robin Hoods of organ thievery, Abe and Samantha are just the sweetest people.

Samantha, a professional con artist, uses her charms to steal kidneys from bad people and get them to good ones. Abe, Sam’s surgeon-in-crime on their illicit kidney theft operation, is using unfettered access to the human body to advance his research to cure diabetes. This gig is hell on their social lives.

Cut and Run was so funny for me.  I didn’t know a team who sells kidneys on the black market could be so funny.  This was one of the free monthly picks from Audible and it was pretty quick witted and hilarious.

Narration:

With a full cast of characters, some background music and noises and Meg Ryan as the narrator to bring it all together this was a fun filled ride.
