This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with fae as a main character. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others and I have read, or own, at least the first book of these series. The team had to help me remember some of these. I like that there is a little diversity in genre.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My Fae series are (in no particular order):
A Court of Thorns and Roses Black Dog Fever
by Sarah J. Moss by Hailey Edwards by Karen Marie Moning
Wicked Lovely October Daye Bargainer
by Melissa Marr by Seanan McGuire by Laura Thalassa

I haven’t read any of these except Wicked Lovely, but I do have a copy of Rosemary and Rue I need to get to?
The October Daye series is one I’m considering for next year’s Read-along since I also own some of them but haven’t read them yet.
The October Daye series is my favorite for its originality. In no other series does a character get turned into a fish for over a decade. Parts of it have a crazy Alice in Wonderland type of aspect.
It’s a series I have wanted to read for quite awhile.
I love some of the KMM Fever series and her fae world is incredible. I also like Dani Harper’s Grim series. I really want to read the October Daye series at some point. I do prefer it when the author writes the fae a little darker. 🙂
I’m considering the October Daye series for next year’s Read-along. or the Fever series, both well loved series I haven’t read.
I’ve not heard of the Grim series. I’ll have to check it out. I really love dark fae stories too. They can be so warped.
I think the Fever series is the only one I’ve read with fae as the main character. Maybe the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas?
I looked at Thrones of Glass and haven’t read all of it but I don’t think it’s fae. I could be wrong. But this other series Court of Thorn and Roses definitely is fae. So many great books, too little time.
It is definitely fae, but perhaps not in the traditional sense. I consider the main theme to be her Assassin status. I think COTAR is definitely what we expect of the typical fae story.
The Fever series is my favorite series with Fae as major characters in the entire series. The series has complex characters and a compelling storyline.
I need to read more of this series. I know it’s a big favorite.
??It is EPIC. This is probably one of my favorite series of all.
I have only read the first books in the Fever, October Daye and Wicked Lovely series, but all are ones I enjoyed quite a bit and want to continue with.
Those are popular choices.
I fell in love with Marr’s writing and Wicked Lovely years ago! I’ve been meaning to do a re-read for ages. After that, it was Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series, and most recently… ACOTAR. I am OBSESSED with the series and have re-read it several times already. I am SO PUMPED the next book is being released soon!! I’m adding the others from your list to by TBR. 🙂
Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? ?
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed them so much. I considered the Kagawa books but I haven’t read them.
SJM is a master! Her series are fantastic and well worth the wait between.
Well, if you limit it to fae must be main character (b/c I would have said Mercy, Dresden, or Iron Druid series!)… I just finished the second book in the Hollowcliff Detectives series, it’s UF/mystery. It’s decent. Main two characters are fae. I also loved Promise of Darkness by Bec McMaster, with the second book coming out next month.
I looked at all those. Harry Dresden could be labeled as fae now with him being part of the Winter Fae but he’s really a wizard. But don’t worry. I love that series and it will come up in next month’s SoS.
I can’t wait to try the Hollowcliff Detective series. It sounds awesome. Love Bec McMaster too.
This is going to topple my towering TBR list. 🙂
There’s no hope for mine but I just keep working my way through them as I can.
Great topic Anne! I love Fae characters (even more than vampires and shifters). I am super excited to check out a few new series I hadn’t heard of and will probably start a Fever reread.
Thanks for your help with this one. Fever is on my list for the possible Read-along candidates.for next year since I have not read it. I’m having fun with the topics for this meme.
