Sunday Post – 30 August 2020 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality @Tynga

Posted August 30, 2020 by Anne - Books of My Heart in Sunday Post / 42 Comments

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday it looked like the last better weather for a bit so I got out and mowed the lawn, pulled more weeds, and put weed killer on part of the front yard.  The next 5 days are supposed to be in mid 90s (35C), so I will need to water but otherwise I don’t want to do more yard work.

I ended up doing 2 Walmart pickups to get items which were out of stock at the first location.   I didn’t feel like cooking as much this week.   I think the heat added to that feeling.

I finally finished unknitting the blanket for my daughter and got it started on the pattern she wanted to try.   She took her first quiz and got a perfect score!  With my daughter staying up until 5,6, or even 7am,  Lulu is getting more exhausted.  She wouldn’t even come upstairs with me and just sacked out on the couch.

Wednesday was a north wind and low humidity so I thought I should do a bit more with the weed killer.  I didn’t want to, but I got myself to go out and do some spraying. I only did the rest of the front yard where Lulu doesn’t go free.  At 7, it was cooler than in the afternoon and not yet buggy.

Thursday my Sam’s Club Instacart had all the requested items!  Somehow I still have things I need/want and feel like all I do is try to put together orders.  I felt unmotivated.  I mostly worked on chores around the house.

I started out reading well this week and now it is so slooooow.  I did finish my Goodreads Challenge sometime recently, with the goal being 225 books for the year.  I updated my challenge linkies so I will have less to do next week.

Friday, I managed to put together our next orders and do some menu planning. Then I finally went through my fabric stash to find things within the color scheme of a friend to make a quilt for her new baby girl.  Of course, I only had a couple things and needed to buy some more things to go with it.   I did figure out the design.

Saturday, it was supposed to rain with a break in the heat but nope.  I picked the small amount of the green beans from the garden and steamed them for my lunch.  I haven’t learned enough about growing them so I can hopefully do better next year.  I went to Joanns to pick up the fabric I ordered online and started washing and ironing it to get ready to cut pieces for new quilt.

I posted my Thrifty Thursday meme this week, where anyone can link up their freebie reads.   Someone suggested it might be good to also include a link here so people know I posted. I do post once a month but I’m not consistent with the timing other than Thursday.  It is also always on the Features – Thrifty Thursday on the top menu bar.    Do you think I should try to get more consistent as to a certain Thursday every month, and then you might be more likely and more prepared to link up?  PLEASE, feel free to use my logo and participate in this meme.

How do I do it?

For some reason my Netgalley widgets (in my right sidebar) are all wonky.  I haven’t changed them and other people don’t have wonky widgets.

If you have any tips for me, please comment.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thanks so much to Tantor Audio,  Ace Roc.  These are most exciting!

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I finally chose my Kindle first read for August.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Anne

  1. Looks like we’re starting to get the rain/storms from Laura. We’re so far inland it’s just much needed rain by now though, with some loud thunder. Beautiful really. Crazy how something so dangerous and deadly can turn so beautiful.

For Thrifty Thursday, if I knew it were always the last Thursday of the month then I MIGHT remember to join in. You know I’m barely getting my blogging mojo back, so I wouldn’t want you to change based on me – but I think that’s probably true for others too. Knowing when it’s coming helps. Could we use your logo and say it’s a meme we’re participating in? That would be fun really and good motivation to hit one of my freebies every month.

I know, we’re struggling to cook these days too. It’s not the heat though, it’s a combo of boredom and my husband being one of the pickiest eaters ever. I’ve been making him cook a lot more, because I’m tired of him not being happy with what I make. I don’t love all his food, but it’s better than cooking AND getting complaints ?

Why is your daughter staying up so late?! School work? Yikes! I hope she’s not overdoing it. Sleep is so important to our health.

Have a great week and stay safe!!

    • Thanks for the Thrifty Thursday comments. Yes please use the logo, that’s why I got a logo so people could use it and participate but I guess I didn’t say that well. I used to think I would do it weekly – I certainly have enough freebies – but there are too many new things I want to read also.

I have to seriously think about the priorities for my time because I have plenty of things I want to do and shouldn’t be bored but I feel unmotivated at times. It’s the anxiety which I’ve never been a person who is anxious, so it’s weird.

My daughter has numerous reasons for the night time thing. Right now she is struggling with gastro issues which have upset her sleep schedule. Also, sometimes I think she just likes to be up by herself. I like that sometimes too. Even with just the two of us, we like our alone time. You’d think with COVID we would crave gatherings. Not always.

  2. Girl gone mad sounds great, and the player and the pixie. I like bad boys in fiction sometimes..they intrigue me. Hope you get one more day of good whether, in mn, if you’re having bad whether, you wait three hours and it may change.

    • That’s for sure about MN weather. It never did rain, but the wind shifted and now with north winds it’s lovely today. I would like to go outside, but I also like to visit Sunday posts and book club is this afternoon, and I want to start cutting out the baby quilt. I want to do it all but something will have to give. And I started a really good book last night so I’d like to read too. lol

  3. Our spell of weather in the 90s is long gone – we are now in the low 60s and we’ll be lucky to see anything much in the 70s now before winter closes in… But my heart goes out to you, trying to keep the garden straight in those temperatures – no wonder Lulu is flat on her back on the settee:)). I hope the coming week is a good one for you, Anne.

  4. Aww, I love the dog photos. The weather here has finally started to cool down. It was near 100 every day for about 2 weeks. That’s why there are so many wildfires right now. Have a great week!

  5. Your time working on orders – mine was car parts and fluids rather than food, working around the heat, and feeling unmotivated to cook could have described my early days this week. Then we got a chain of storms and the humidity and heat finally broke and I have new energy. 🙂 I didn’t grow beans this year, but I like the looks of your first attempt. Yay for your daughter’s first quiz going great. Poor Lulu! Our cats get confused when we go off schedule, too.
Hope next week is great, Anne!

  6. I felt unmotivated this week too. It was hot here, but not in the 90’s thankfully! I would have REALLY been unmotivated then! Did you get the hurricane rain at all? It missed us here (and we could have used it) but its finally cooled off.

    • Same. we didn’t get any rain from the hurricane here even though the front went through and some places had rain. It was much cooler today, less humid with a north wind I think but still 86 this afternoon which felt nice. At least without rain, it’s not quite as urgent to mow but it will need it again soon. It looks like next Saturday before we get out of the 90s again.

  7. OMG Lulu is so cute!!!! And again you are so industrious I feel like I do nothing from my weeks when I visit your recaps Anne!

  8. I’m loving those Lulu pics??? Funny how they tire out just being with their owners?

I’m so impressed with the yard work you do. Once the humidity rises, I can’t breathe so around here I can’t do much outside. Love reading about your outdoor prowess.

Now that I have these new nitrile gloves, I’m feeling so much safer doing my grocery shopping. And, looks like most people are understanding the importance of wearing masks as I didn’t see anyone in the store without one. That’s such an important change.

Congrats on all your book acquisitions! Have a wonderful week, Anne?

    • Thank you. I enjoy having some outdoor time but I don’t like it when it is too hot. Even then I do water in the morning or evening for a few minutes to protect my new plants.

Well we seriously have her going 24 hours a day some days, one of us being awake all the time. But I think my daughter i turning it around somewhat. I don’t think she will be an early riser but hopefully getting up more like noon instead of 6 pm.

I’m glad to see more people taking appropriate safety precautions and that you feel safer.

  9. Lulu is so cute! And congrats on your daughters good grades.
Online shopping and curbside pickup are so convenient. The only time we go to the actual grocery store is to pickup perishables which we can’t get online unless its WholeFoods but I find them too pricey. Thrifty Thursday sounds like a fun meme idea. Happy reading this week! I may have to do a self imposed read-a-thon this week. I am so behind.

  10. I’m still stuck at the 225 books read in 8 months. I guess that’s not a typo, huh? lol My husband just got back from the commissary on the Navy base and they didn’t have 3 items on the list so now I have to generate another Walmart or go make a special trip. I can so relate to you feeling like you’re always putting together orders. I’m either picking one up, making one, or mentally preparing one. 🙂

    • I feel more concerned to always have things “in stock” because they might not be at the store and I don’t just run out to the store if I think I need something. I have to plan ahead a lot more now. Of course, then and now, you have to ask yourself, what is in the fridge that’s fresh which isn’t going to keep, so one should eat it.

My goal was 225 but I’m at 235 now. I read a bit every night and during the day I listen to audio while I do a variety of tasks and chores. Audiobooks made the big difference because I used to read about 150-200 in a year, but audio gives me another 100 books a year.

  11. My dog Fern is in a similar position as I type this, I think she is at it and just wants me to sit down and snuggle her!

You have certainly had a busy week by the sound of it, our temperature is now in the fifties, every day its getting colder. I love Autumn and its certainly starting to feel like it, before I know it Starbucks will have their PSL on sale.

    Have a lovely week.

    • Lulu is such a star. She even wags her tail in that position until we come over to rub her belly.

It’s still so hot here. The heat index had warnings today because although the actual temp is 96, the heat index is like 109! But then Saturday it is supposed to be in the low 80s so I can do some yardwork.

Congrats on finishing your reading goal for the year in only 8 months! I am way behind… oh well. So my question is… do I change my goal, knowing I can’t make it, or just not make it?

    • I may not be the person to ask. I always try to set fairly realistic goals. 225 is about 18-19 books a month which seemed like a really high goal but the fact is I am reading 25-30 books a month so I am ahead. It could be different. I did adjust some goals higher when I was doing more challenges. I guess I would leave it for now unless it stresses you. I don’t even pay attention to mine, only what books I want to read.
