When a lethal drug targeting paranormal citizens is unleashed on the streets of Atlanta, Hadley hits the clubs to pin down the dealer. The party is just getting started when a mysterious fae with his own agenda offers her a taste of power she can’t refuse if she wants to purge the evil from her city.

Hadley already owes Natisha seven beating hearts to satisfy their bargain, but the price the fae demands from Hadley might as well be her soul. He strips away her tiny spells, her necessary illusions, and leaves her bare to face judgement from the one person she never wanted to see her truth.

Now Hadley’s fate rests in Midas’s hands, and all she can do is hope the future she glimpsed for them doesn’t slip through his fingers.

I loved the Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series. They are all on Kindle Unlimited as well as this new series, The Potentate of Atlanta. It is with some characters from the original series. Hadley, ie. Amelie,  is now living in Atlanta training to be the POA.

Change of Heart felt very different to me. Hadley continues to battle the fae coven. She is developing her skills and knowledge to become Potentate.  In spite of her own doubts,  she is building friends and allies.  Remy is turning out to be quite the assistant.   While she didn’t expect it, Linus, Grier and Addie have been helpful to her, as well.

The big change has come with her relationship with Midas.  He has set her as his mate, but hasn’t told her all the details hoping to build their relationship.  He is now living with her.  Through the daily battles with her work,  they get to know each other better and their past and all its secrets are revealed.  I really appreciated this character progression and thought it added a lot.

The situation with the fae really blows things up and they will certainly continue to be a problem.  I don’t know that the investigation or battles seem any more strategic or planned.  It is hard to be proactive when you are attacked.   I look forward to Hadley’s handling of matters as Potentate with better support and more developed talents.

Narration:

Rebecca Mitchell is Grier for me and also Linus. She performs male and female voices well. However, all the female voices are very similar and the male voices are mostly alike also. I barely distinguished her Hadley from her Grier voice. Ford sounded too much like Boaz for me.    I listened at my normal 1.5x speed.

About Hailey Edwards

Hailey Edwards writes about questionable applications of otherwise perfectly good magic, the transformative power of love, the family you choose for yourself, and blowing stuff up. Not necessarily all at once. That could get messy. She lives in Alabama with her husband, their daughter, and a herd of dachshunds.

So glad you are continuing to enjoy these books. And glad that Amelie is finally finding her place. 🙂

  2. I haven’t started this series as I wasn’t a fan of “Hadley” in the BGTN. That said, I’ve decided to dive in now we’re approaching the ebook release of the final one. I’ve been enjoying the teasers and snippets Edwards posts in her FB group. 🙂

I have the first series on my wish list. I’m planning to treat myself to a month of Kindle Unlimited in December when I have a lot of time off to binge read. I’ll keep this one in mind if I like the first series.

    • This one has been more of an uphill battle than the first series. The main character has a bit of a villainous past. There are several police procedural type mysteries I love on KU, particularly Tracey Crosswhite series by Robert Dugoni and books by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot.
