The end of the world is just the beginning of the hunt....

Estes Park police chief Marcus Colton and tracker Sam "Raven" Spears have never liked one another, but when a young girl goes missing in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colton hires Spears to help find her. Their search ends after a night of devastating horror. When word reaches Estes that the nation has been hit by a coordinated electromagnetic pulse attack, Colton and Spears are forced to work together again. But they quickly realize they aren't just tracking a killer - they are tracking a madman. As the United States descends into chaos, the hunters become the hunted.

Halfway across the country, Senator Charlize Montgomery awakes to find the nation's capital has gone dark. Forced to set off on foot, she treks across a city that has woken to a new world, and as the night progresses she learns the EMP attack was just the beginning.

I love a good scifi, post apocalypse story. I chose this for scifi month and once I started, read straight through in one sitting. There’s plenty of action, strong characters who do the right thing / take advantage of others, and smart strategies for survival.  Trackers had a lot to offer and was a compelling read, when I should have been falling asleep.

The main character groups are law enforcement in Estes Park, CO, a family with a senator and a fighter pilot, and a native family with an ex-military and a nurse.  There are many other townspeople and government staff who also play a role.

In Estes Park, we have the law enforcement hunting for a lost girl, then a killer, while trying to help all the people there survive.  It’s action-packed and suspenseful, with some smart and caring folks working really hard. Of course, there are others who only care about themselves.  It’s a dangerous situation with limited resources.

In the government, there are people who are trying to figure out the political situation and put together resources to help the country, while dealing with personal issues and losses.  This story arc is only beginning by the end of the story.

The striking aspect is how plausible it is.  There could be an EMP strike, or nuclear attacks by other countries.  All the other layers from a missing child, to a killer, to political jockeying, and the development of the characters could really happen.

This series is in Kindle Unlimited.  Oddly, while this first book is currently 99¢, you can also buy the entire 4 book set for 99¢ (which I did at some point).  It’s definitely a great deal.  I recommend Trackers and look forward to reading more in the series. Soon.

These are only Kindle freebies I get, or ones through author newsletters which anyone can sign up and get for free. I don’t include things like Kindle Unlimited or Prime Free Reading (I do have it). Both Tantor and Audible have occasional free audios (to anyone) and I do include those.  Since I one-click on 1-2 freebies a day or probably at least 5 a week, I came up with this feature to make sure I start reading them.

So I have thought about doing a Thrifty Thursday Challenge someday. For now,  what I think would be fun is if you have read and reviewed  a freebie, link up to your review (Goodreads, blog, facebook or wherever) below.

    • Yes if you are interested , right now the box set of 4 is the same price as just buying the first one. I already had the first one free but still a good deal. I try to pick freebies which are in genres I really prefer and often only from well known authors, like the first in a series are sometimes given free. But I have gotten some from new authors who later became popular like Colleen Hoover. I got one of hers like 7-8 years ago as a freebie. Thanks for sharing !
