The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday was more of the same, careful and limited movements to reduce pain.  I did some blog visiting.  Then we had the first Facebook chat for the Read-along.  I thought it went really well, with lots of great ideas and discussion.  It really helped me open up to different aspects of the story and enjoy it more.  It’s a risk committing to a 15 book Read-along when I haven’t read the series and might not like it.  Now we are reading the second book by Jan 29.  Right after I took Lulu for a walk.  The weather was gray. It’s pretty much around 50F (10C) most days and  around freezing point nights.  The walk was fine but I had some pain afterward.  It turns out my daughter didn’t like the turkey sausage so when I make scalloped potatoes again I’ll have ham and she wants turkey hot dogs.  I’ll just make 2 smaller pans instead of one big one.

Monday was like all days lately.  I get up and try to reduce the pain. I wrote several reviews, set up several posts. My daughter had a sore throat which is now a cold.  I’m avoiding movement, because movement causes pain.  We are a fun bunch.

Tuesday, I’m not trying for a menu plan right now as neither of us feels like eating. Together we managed to get out the garbage and recycle. I worked a lot on the posts for Read-along 2021 which I had been wanting to do for a month.

Wednesday was terrible pain worse. So I called around and got a chiropractic/ massage appointment at a place my neighbors recommended.  When I called the doc actually answered the phone (lunch break) and she was so helpful.   One of her staff called back later and got all my info, and they are so nice.  I was able to get my daughter in soon and they are only 10 minutes from our house. I baked chicken thighs to make another batch of food for Lulu.

Thursday, I was dreading and hopeful to go to the new chiropractor and massage. The new chiro / massage went better than expected and less painful than I worried it might be.  They are really awesome people.   They used a CBD salve on my “tramp stamp” area which really worked.   And when I got home I had the new AceRoc titles available for March including Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs! I found out I won COYER Quarantine!  Thanks so much to Michelle and Berls; they are the very best!

Friday, I went back to the chiro early. I didn’t sleep well so when I got back I napped, waking up just when my Instacart delivery arrived.  My daughter had to get up and help me carry stuff in and put it away because I’m still pretty pained.   I’ve got a sore throat, so maybe I’m getting her cold now.  UGH,  I’ve been 19 years without a cold.  We will see if this turns into one or if it goes away with some rest and liquids.  It was rainy today but not as chilly as I expected.

Saturday, well I was up a few painful times in the night but I seem to be better rested.  My life is ice packs for my back, Zicam and CBD salve.   I’m having a better day.  Now I’m going to do some computer work and then maybe eat something and go back to resting (and reading, of course).  It’s been a rough week but my daughter has been great at helping.   She started her new college semester on Thursday.

Reminder:  This Thursday is Thrifty Thursday.  In February, it is February 18th.

Lulu’s DNA results:

This was a shocker to us and very interesting. I didn’t guess correctly either. We have 31 people from 6 countries vote and nobody voted for the actual answer.

Mixed Breed

 47.4% Chihuahua

19.2% Dachshund

12.4% Poodle (Small)

5.9% Shih Tzu

4.9% Cocker Spaniel

10.2% Supermutt

EMBARK SUPERMUTT ANALYSIS

What’s in that Supermutt? There may be small amounts of DNA from these distant ancestors:

  • Boston Terrier
  • Pug
  • Pomeranian

If you are interested in checking your dog’s DNA,  you can get $40 off using my referral link.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thank you to AceRoc,  and Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I loved this one from Chloe Neil and it was a deal at Chirp for just $2.99 with a narrator I like.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

How are you holding up with things back to the non-holiday routines?

Anne

  1. I am so sorry that you are still having so much pain. I hope you find relief soon. I am amazed by the fact that you haven’t had a cold in 19 years?! I must be doing something wrong! I couldn’t download Wild Sign fast enough when I received the email. I want to start it right away but I have other books that I need to read first. I hope you have a great week, Anne!

    • Thank you Carole! I’m with you on Wild Signs. I’m rereading Dead Heat (right now) which I will follow with Burn Bright. I wash my hands in the bathroom and whenever I am working with food. Also I use wipes on carts at stores, when I used to go to stores, and last I didn’t use their pens or stylus for credit card signatures. I brought my own pen or I wiped my hands afterwards. That’s what I do which might be different. The pain is not as bad this weekend.

  2. Gosh, love your doggie’s family tree! That is so interesting. We have two labbies and they are both just labbies. I had a cross-bred spaniel/border collie when I was a young girl and she was the naughtiest dog… But lovely!

Hope you will have a better week with less pain. At least you have some awesome books to keep you company.

  3. Chihuahua??? That didn’t even make my list! Go Lulu for being the 2021 stumper?

Sorry you had a tough week health wise. It’s hard to concentrate when you’re experiencing pain so I’m sending prayers your way for you to be pain free soon?

Nice book haul, Anne! Enjoy everything.

    • Thank you Jonetta. Lulu did shock us. We were told terrier mix but obviously no. I was kind of glad to see the Poodle part. Things are improving but I’m not there yet, so I’m being very careful with my movements.

  4. So very sorry that you are still struggling with so much pain:((. I hope it eases up really soon, Anne. Impressed that you haven’t had a cold for 19 years, you clearly have a hard-core immune system. And woah – THAT was a surprise regarding Lulu’s ancestry! Looking at her, I would NEVER have guessed the breed mix… I hope the coming week is a MUCH better one!

    • Well I suppose we could but we don’t go anywhere. The chiro is the first place I have gone inside in months, and the post office once. My daughter hasn’t even left the house since the beginning of December so it would be more than 5 weeks lead time. I’d also be worried that there would be a bunch of people who possibly have COVID at the testing and we could get it there? Lulu’s info was so fascinating to me.

  5. I am sorry you were in pain this week Anne! And Lulu’s DNA results are interesting! let’s hope next week will be pain less!

    • Slow improvement but it’s hard when I’m used to doing everything. Two weeks ago it was daily pushups and all kinds of things I wouldn’t try right now. We were totally wrong about Lulu also. No one guessed it. Fennel is an interesting choice, that might be really good.

  6. Sorry to hear about your back pain! Hope you get back to 100% soon!

I’m so jealous over Wild Sign! I requested on Netgalley and of course I’m still pending like my request for Veronica Speedwell. Usually I have better success. Not sure what’s going on.

  7. Oh I hate that you are still in pain! I’m so sorry. I hope the new chiro works out and they can help you long term.

I cannot believe Lulu has no terrier!! I would have NEVER guessed Chihuahua.

    • Thanks Samantha! I really like the new chiro and massage folks. They are very close and have been a help. It’s a bit better this weekend. I usually go about once a month but haven’t gone because of COVID which seems to have been a mistake.

IKR? I would not have thought of chihuahua and we were told terrier. I can see it now but I still think she has a “terrier” look.

  8. Oh no, so sorry to hear that the pain was no better this week,,, and maybe even worse. And now you and your daughter both with colds? You poor things. Doesn’t sound like much fun at your house right now. I hope this week is better for you both!

    • Thank you Tanya! I’ve held off the cold so far but have a sore throat. Now I have some ways to work with the pain so hopefully this week will be better. My daughter is still fighting her cold and starting her new classes at the same time. We both are sleeping more, or at least trying to sleep more. I’d love to be drinking lots of fluids but that would mean getting up to the bathroom more and that hurts. So I minimize my movements.

  9. That’s so cool abut Lulu. I clicked on the link and may have to investigate what Buffy is. I’m very curious. Did you have to take blood, though? that would suck to try and do with a dog lol.

I’m so sorry you’ve been in so much pain, not being able to move around without pain is the worst. I’m glad you found such a great chiro/massage place though! Sounds like they’re taking good care of you. Ugh! and then a cold to boot! Here’s hoping that next week is one of mending and healing!!

  10. I emphathize with your pain. I have chronic pain almost everyday its a symptom of my disability and it’s hard to know when its going to come on. Funny, I went to the doctor the other day, and he asked ‘why are you really here?’ as if pain or anything else wasn’t a good enough reason.

  11. I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain, it just sounds so horrible for you. I will be keeping you in my prayers in your healing. I hope this week is a much better one for you.

I hope you have a good time with Wild Sign.

  12. I do hope your pain is alieved soon. That sort of thing really knocks you off your schedule and getting stuff done. Looks like you still pushed through and got lots done.
    That is fascinating about Lulu.
    Yay for getting Wild Sign.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  13. I didn’t even know you could do that for your dog lol. Never heard of it in France.
In any case you had some nice books there! Happy reading!

  14. I’m so sorry to read your pain hasn’t really lessened much! *Sending you a virtual hug* And I hope the cold goes away soon.
I love that you were able to get your dog’s DNA test results. That’s so fun!
I hope this week will be better for you! Happy reading.

  15. I hope the pain recedes, Anne, and you get some relief. Congratulations on winning COYER Quarantine! That sounds like a nice surprise. I remember when I had my dog’s DNA test done. The results really surprised me at the time too. It’s fun to see though, isn’t it? I hope you enjoy your week!

  16. I’m sorry to hear you’re still in pain! I had something that sounds similar just before Christmas so I have all the sympathy for you right now… It’s no fun at all. 🙁 Fingers crossed it passes soon.

Lulu’s mix is awesome! Who’d have thought it from looking at her? I definitely would have voted some kind of terror mix.

    • Thanks Nicci! It’s finally improving but I guess I need more regular checks with the chiro to keep things in line. It has really limited my computer time.

I love knowing about Lulu. I wouldn’t have guessed as she is 20 lbs so bigger than most chihuahuas but there’s the other things. I’m glad to see the poodle %. No wonder she’s so smart. The other breeds may be also but I don’t know as much about them.
