Sunday Post – 18 July 2021 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by  Marlene from Reading Reality.  It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday, I got going on some research, watered the front yard, and visited a few Sunday posts.  Then I finally decided to order my kitchen cabinets.  It was 30% off and I scored 24 month free financing.  They won’t be here until late October though.   I stopped for a few groceries on the way home.  Then it was back to some blog posts and visiting.  I finally found a second book for the Audible sale.

Monday,  I started out with more energy.  I got back on the watering plan. The weather this week is hot about 90 all week but today isn’t too humid yet. I did a lot of cleanup work like getting all the photos off my phone onto the laptop,  updating the ARC audiobooks on my phone.

Tuesday, I wasn’t feeling as energetic after two nights with pain in the night.  Still, I went right to work cleaning spiders and their webs out of the garage, and spraying for ongoing defense.  I was thrilled to get my July audiobooks from Harper Audio.  I had been waiting and started listening to one right away.  My daughter was working on midterms and deciding what classes to take this fall. She decided in the end to stay with only online classes.

Wednesday,  I began the watering routine. I do it every other day now but not when rain helps me out.  I finished my audio and got the review written.  I decided to start my blog ahead work for 2022.  I created the posts for Series on Saturday and Thrifty Thursday. I’m letting myself have a sort of quiet week while doing some needed tasks like cleaning, blogging ahead and others which are immediate but make me feel I’m getting a bit ahead or on track.

Thursday, we had chiro and massage appts and then I picked up a few groceries.  I continued on my ramped up chores with vacuuming the first floor and laundering all the throw rugs. My brother booked tickets to come visit for a 3 day weekend, early in August, only $67 round-trip from Tampa to Raleigh. He hasn’t seen the new house. I made Lulu another batch of food.  I stayed up too late finishing my review book.

Friday, I got up later.  I moved around the sprinklers to water sod for another day.  I need another cooler day to mow again. I wrote a few posts.  I figured out one of my old kitchen cabinet would fit and work well above the toilet in the bathroom.   Also all the towel bars and such are chrome in my bathroom but the cabinet handles are gold. I’m going to take the similar chrome (brushed nickel?) ones from the old kitchen cabinets and put them in the bath so it all matches.

Saturday,  well I was going to do sewing but instead I chatted with Berls about the 2022 Read-along and came up with a schedule.  She suggested, and I posted a poll on the COYER group.  If you are in the COYER FB group, please go vote in the poll here.  It is the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost.  The kickoff post will be December 5 with the first book to be read by Jan 16.  There will be 13 books in 2022 and then in Jan 2023 we will do a ReadASeries of the 3 Ian books.   There will be COYER FB chats on Sundays, following the Friday posts.  I baked a blueberry coffee cake I don’t think I have made in our GF times. Then for dinner I tried a new recipe for Lobster pasta.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Thanks so much to Harper Audio,  St. Martin’s Press, SocialButterflyPR,  and Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I finally managed to find a second pick for the 2-1 credit Audible sale that I couldn’t get at the library or KU or didn’t already own.

I found 2 in the new Audible sale.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Congrats on the cabinet deal, Anne? There are so many options these days it’s difficult to choose (I’m trying to help my sister).

Nice book pickup! I was so happy to get the KA deal, too. You’ve lots of freebies by new-to-me authors so I’m looking forward to reading your reviews.

    Have a wonderful week!

  2. You are so organized, it am jealous! lol.
My Kitchen cabinets have been here since my dad was young. lol This was my grandmother’s house so everything is just old but ok for no and they are well built.

I hope you have a fantastic week, Anne! Happy Reading! xx

  3. Yay for a productive week of physical tasks done and online ones. I’m psyching myself up to pull out the furniture and clean under it all while the humidity is lower the first few days this week and I’ve got a bit more energy. Fun that you have a visit coming with your brother. Clever idea to reuse the kitchen cabinet and the extra cabinet hardware to make it all match in the bathroom. You do so much that makes the readalong a fun year long event to look forward to.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  4. My parents had to wait a really long time when they ordered cabinets! I was kind of surprised, but I think now with everything still being slow from the pandemic it makes sense. Have a great week!

    • I am creating the “shells” or setups for the features I do regularly like The Sunday Post, Thrifty Thursday, Series on Saturday and the Read-along. The Read-along is the Night Huntress series by Jeanienne Frost which all the books we are reading are complete, so I can do basic setup like buy links and blurb, even some of the giveaway rafflecopters. Then just the review, quotes and observations etc have to be filled in later. I only do the book review setups when I receive an ARC.

  5. Ooo could you please come here and clean spiders out of our crawlspace???? Sounds like you’re not afraid of them like I am.

All that watering sounds exhausting. I remember my Mom watering when I was a kid growing up in Arizona. No need to water anything in Arkansas!

$67 for a flight sounds pretty amazing. Too bad I’m terrified of flying. lol

Mmmm blueberry coffee cake!!! how was the lobster pasta?????

A massage and chiro appointment sounds divine.

    • I’m not afraid of spiders but I don’t like them in the house or garage. They can stay outside, and not on my porch either, thank you very much.

The blueberry coffee cake was actually the # 2 favorite from 10 years of Cooking Light. (I have the 10 year highlights cookbook. It was the first time I made it with gluten free flour and it turned out just fine. The lobster pasta was also a win. The sauce used white wine and olive oil with only 2 T of cream so it wasn’t as heavy. We added spinach to get out greens in there.

  6. It seems like a lot of home items take longer to get now. Although, we didn’t have delays and I was surprised. Our kitchen is still torn apart. We ordered new cabinet doors and hardware and my husband painted them a few weeks ago, but the framework needed to be painted as well and he had to add a few coats of some special filler to cover the wood grain, then primer a couple of times, and now he has the first coat of paint on that has to dry 16 hrs before he can add the second. All our new appliances are sitting in our living room along with a lot of the kitchen contents, so yeah it’s a mess, but I know it’ll look nice when it’s all done. Do you not have a sprinkler system in your yard? We do, and we’re gone so much I’m happy we do because everything would die otherwise. We’re having hot days here as well. Can’t really do much outside unless you do it really early or late. Really makes exercising tough.

    Blueberry cake sounds wonderful!

I got a copy of the new edition of After the Climb as well too.

    • I hope my kitchen reno goes more quickly. Nothing is happening until the cabinets arrive. Well except me cleaning out the cupboards and storing everything. I am using all my old appliances which are a variety of ages from 2-10 years old.

No we don’t have a sprinkler system. We’re not gone that much so right now it is easy to do myself, as long as I don’t forget and flood part of the yard. lol I’m looking forward to tomorrow being cloudy all day but not raining and upper 70s so Lulu and I can get out for a walk.

  7. Sounds like a seriously productive week! And yay for realizing the old cabinets would work in the bathroom. Love when things work out like that. You are seriously organized! I’m not ready for August and you’re talking about 2022! I’m impressed. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Busy and productive week – good stuff. Lobster pasta sounds yummy. Hope this week is good too and enjoy your latest haul.

    • The lobster pasta was good. It had mostly white wine with a little olive oil for the sauce and then 2 T cream. It reduced nicely like it was supposed to do, we added a bunch of fresh spinach for some greens. Next time I would use a different white wine and more spinach. But it was tasty as it was. But I really don’t ever make a recipe the way it is written. I used basil and garlic chives instead of thyme and parsley.

  9. Sounds like you got a great deal on the cabinets but October is a long wait. And what a great deal your brother got on the airfare!
The blueberry coffee cake and lobster pasta has me practically drooling! 🙂

  10. You reminded me about the Penny Reid books! I started them and was going to keep reading but stopped for some reason. Maybe I will go back to see if that helps my reading slump!

It sounds like you had a pretty productive week!

  11. Jen

Sounds like a pretty productive and good week, despite the pain. We’ve had so much rain in the month of July (good chance we will surpass the record), that I’ve not needed to water and we have mushrooms growing all over the yard and flower beds. The beds have exploded with growth and weeds. It’s crazy.

    • Well we have rain maybe once a week but it’s been hot and the new sod needs more. I’m down to every other day or it will be more since we got rain last night and a little today. Thankfully the Preen is working and I have very few weeds in the veggie and flower gardens. They are coming up in sidewalk and driveway cracks some so those get sprayed with Roundup stuff.

    • You introduced me to Charly Cox and I love her work too. I hope you will join us for some of the Night Huntress books. I’m trying to get the word out early to make it easier for people to join us. It’s one of my favorites and I’m looking forward to rereading after so many years + reading some of the later books for the first time.

  12. I’m looking forward to the Night Huntress read-a-thon. 🙂
The lobster pasta sounds interesting! I don’t think I’ve ever tried lobster… Something I need to remedy one day. 🙂

    • I’m SO very excited you will join us on the Night Huntress reading! It’s one of my favorite series but it’s been nearly 10 years since I read any of it.

Lobster is a favorite but we like all seafood. My daughter at two when the pediatrician asked what she is eating – salmon, lobster, scallops, shrimp, … I think she also mentioned mac n cheese and pizza but the doc was shocked. She may also have mentioned green beans and spinach which are my favorite veggies.
