The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday was a day of juggling my activities.  I was trying to visit blogs. I looked forward to the Facebook chat.  It was the last day of my brother’s visit.  We had some things to do and I wanted to cook a great meal.  The weather was still pretty nice.  But the upcoming week is going to be hot.  I drove him to the airport after dinner. It was an intense weekend trying to pack in all the time with my brother.  So it felt great to be alone.

Monday, I slept until I woke up.  I have plenty to do this week but I’m going to take my time.  I caught up finally on some computer things I’d let go over the weekend.  My daughter and I were both so tired we went to bed early. Lulu was tired too. I had to turn my sound up a bit to hear it.

Tuesday,  I woke up for a few hours early but then went back to sleep.  Luckily, the new freezer was scheduled for an afternoon delivery (3-7).  I set up all the Library Love posts for 2022 while waiting for delivery. They called at 8 pm to say they would be here in the next 1.5 hours. They didn’t show until 11:30pm.  They just put it in place and plugged it in.  I had to remove all the packing, install the handle and then I scrubbed it inside and out.  My experience is that Home Depot sucks for appliance delivery here and Lowes is good.

Wednesday, I woke up early worried about moving everything to the new freezer.  It went ok.  It is taking time to get to the right temp.  The old freezer did not do well on an extension cord and I found out that is a bad idea to put a freezer on an extension cord.  I had a lot to read for my review tomorrow but I got it finished and the review written.  I also called the insurance company and got a credit on my home insurance for a brand new roof.  I asked for a new auto quote.

Thursday,  another night with interrupted sleep and another day burning hot.  I spot watered in the yard.  We were going out the door to the chiro / massage and my daughter told me we needed to meet a guy so she could buy a used book.  Since we were going all the way to Cary, I also picked up my old laptop with the new SSD drive installed, went to the gluten free bakery and got Asian takeout.  I can’t wait until next week when the temperature will drop a bit and we might get a little rain.  The new freezer finally got to its set temperature.  It’s been on High alert with an alarm ringing off and on for the last two days.  I did put it on Turbo freeze twice to get it to temperature faster.

Friday,  I have the worst time starting new books this month.  I want to read them!  I have many to read also.  Well I’m into the current read and listen, which then means I will finish them and have to start more new ones. It’s a viscous cycle.  It seems like Aug 31 and Sep 7 each have about 6 new releases or more I want to read.      This afternoon we will go out to get another used book for my daughter’s  classes next week.  She is taking Geology and English Writing & Inquiry. Lulu went on our little road trip and enjoyed the ice cream stop. I ran all the diagnostics and updates on my new laptop and no problems. Hmm.

Saturday,  I read late and slept late.  Storms and rain are threatening and there has been a little rain. Yay!  We need it and it can kick off a slightly cooler week with occasional showers.  I loaded some new audiobooks to my phone.  It’s working well for me to read on my iphone these days.

I always enjoy the ReadASeries in a Month Challenge so I’m looking forward to it again in September.  I’ve decided to read the Wrexford & Sloane series by Andrea Penrose.  I own some on audio, some ebook,  and the 5th book is releasing September 28, 2021 so that one may not be included, just the first 4. I own the first two on audio at Audible.  I own book 3 in ebook format.  The last one, as well as the earlier ones, are available at my library in both formats.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

Many thanks to Elizabeth Hunter,  Avon and Harper Voyager, Tantor Audio,   Simon & Schuster Audio, and Harper Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I couldn’t resist this Audible Daily deal for $1.95.  I got Peace Talks (ebook)  for $1.99.

I found 10 audiobooks I’d like to own in the Audible 2-1 credit sale, but these two weren’t at the library.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. That’s a pain your new freezer arrives so late. I always hate it when companies give a broad time estimate and then arrive after it. Sorry to hear it’s been so hot where you live, hopefully it cools down a bit next week. This month and the next one sure have a lot of new release coming out. I am doing well staying ahead of the review copies I got for now. I also requested Hunt the Stars, but haven’t heard back yet whether I got approved. I hope you’ll have a good week!

    • Thank you Lola! Well Lowes was right on time when I got appliances there but Home Depot has not done well here. Today I can hear thunder but the radar looks like rain will be all around but not here. The latest looks like it will rain overnight. Almost everything on my New Books shelf came late Thursday or Friday, including Hunt the Stars.

I’ve had an Audible membership a couple of times, but didn’t know about the Daily Deal. $1.99 for Peace Talks!!! under $2 for ANY audiobook is fantastic.

  3. I love sleeping until I wake up…I honestly just love sleeping. lol You had a very productive week, Glad you had a great time with your brother.

My reading has been flawed this month. I am hoping to get back on track after this vacation.
I hope you have a great week, Anne! Happy Reading! xx

  4. What a nightmare with your freezer delivery! That’s so late! It’s been so hot here too. I wish we had rain in the forecast, but no. I have a lot of books due Aug 31st too. It’s hard to squeeze everything in. I’d like to try Elizabeth Hunter. Didn’t know about that Jessie Mihalik. I’ll look that one up.

    • Elizabeth Hunter is amazing but you should start at the beginning of one of the series. Jessie Mihalik was recommended by Ilona Andrews so I’ve now read her entire offerings. They were enjoyable. The one I got is a brand new series. Polaris Rising (I got it on audio) was awesome! Strong women. Space opera.

I wasn’t impressed with the delivery. But I waited up because I didn’t want to put it off. I mean they weren’t taking my old one but otherwise I would have all my food out in coolers, old one shut down, and then what would I do if I had to reschedule for a couple weeks out?

  5. Ugh what a nightmare that freezer installation!

What was the really great meal you made for your brother?

I’m attempting to read Middlemarch but the thought that I’ll be reading the same book for like…a MONTH…does not sit well with me. I might have to have two books going at the same time just so I feel like I’m accomplishing something. LOL

    • 11:30 pm is ridiculous! The meal was one of our favorites which is seared scallops with snow peas over jasmine rice. I made peach crisp for dessert. It was his favorite meal I made anyway.

I always have one audio and one ebook going. I just listened to the Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead and it took forever and was just brutal. It’s not even a long book.

  6. What a relief that the hot weather was followed by rain and more temperate temps so you can get your things done and get some good rain water for your lawn and garden. Glad the freezer finally came and got down to temp for you. I’ve heard that, too, about large appliances needing to be direct plug ins- makes sense. Yay for the break in insurance from the roof. Hopefully the struggles to get into your newer review books will go away. Man, that is so true about the releases seem to bunch up on the same dates. I think getting that log jam in my reviews back in the winter/spring when Shari and Laurel Ann’s blogs went on sabbatical forced me to shrug over getting books reviewed by release dates and just do the best I could. 🙂
Nice Audible haul and I sort my purchase priorities by what I can get as a borrow or not, too. I want to get Fugitive Telemetry in audio. I reviewed it in print, but I love the audio.

    Have a great week, Anne!

    • Thanks Sophia. It’s a juggling act every week to get things finished on various fronts. I love all the Murderbot books so I was excited to see it as an Audible daily deal. I really try not to buy them if they are available at the library but the Murderbots are 5 hearts all the way so I buy them when on sale.

  7. Sounds like a bit of a hectic week but glad you took it slow and got some rest. Yay for the freezer! The Andrea Penrose series is on my TBR. It looks great. Have a wonderful week and happy reading!

    • When is it not a hectic week anymore? I keep thinking I will get the house stuff done and just relax for a few days but it doesn’t ever happen. But I do have a lot of slack in my days usually, so I can’t complain. I can’t remember why I would have bought the Penrose ones since I can get them at the library but they were on sale. I hope I really like them.

  8. For us that live on the western side of the country….getting rain is such a blessing! And looks like you were productive this week. Love seeing your new additions you added to your shelves.

Hope you have a good week.

  9. So glad you got a chance to visit with your brother. I read Montana Sky by Nora Roberts years ago and really enjoyed it. I bet it’s good on audiobook.

  10. Ooh, I just noticed how you put about not including your reviews because they are already in the sidebar, that’s a good idea to save time! I wish I had a challenge update like yours, except I guess I do have my Goodreads on the sidebar. The storms we had this past week did not cool it down for us at all, it was still sticky hot. 🙁 But we did need the rain. Thanks for visiting my Sunday post on Lisa Loves Literature earlier!

  11. Oh my goodness, there is no way I would have accepted a delivery that late. What atrocious service!
Hooray for the rain and some cooler temps. We’re getting doused right now and I hope that means it will be a bit cooler when I leave the office.

  12. Jen

Our big cat, Charlie, is a loud breather. It’s fun to listen to him sometimes. We had a hot spell for us Thursday – Sunday, so lots of beach days. I’m not reading as much as when I was on vacation, but still getting in a little time each day. I had planned to get to my TBR over the summer, but never made it. *shrugs* Oh well. I hope you have a good week.

    • Thank you! It may feel like I got nothing accomplished but little by little stuff happens. We are getting more rain this week which we need. We are 2-3 hours from the beach and 2-3 hours from the mountains but we aren’t really going anywhere at this time. But we enjoy being home so it’s not too bad.

  13. Delivery at 11PM? Ouch. My friend had a dishwasher delivered (from Lowe’s, I think), and they refused to go up her driveway because trees go across it. Not low-hanging trees that might hit the truck, mind you. I can’t even remember what she had to do to make that delivery happen but it was a saga. And once they did finally deliver it, they didn’t even set it up for her or haul off the old one. She was furious.

I hope you get some rain from this Fred storm. All my family in Asheville seems to be flooding right now, so I hope you don’t get that amount.

    Enjoy your week!

  14. You had a busy and productive week! Thanks for my Lulu fix?

Glad you finally got that freezer. I gave up on Home Depot years ago and am a fan of Lowe’s. Hope you’re happy with your choice.

I did a double take when I saw your series choice. It looked like Sebastian St. Cyr! I really enjoyed Montana Sky and hope you do, too.

I’ve been hunkered down trying to catch up on my reading this week so I’m sorry I’m just getting to this post.

    • No worries. I am trying to get to all the great books for Aug 31 and Sep 7. I am hanging on by my pinky finger. I’d love to read Sebastian St. Cyr for my series but I have too many unread to read them all next month unless I didn’t read anything else. I may have to give up on Home Depot, for sure for appliance delivery. I don’t feel productive right now but I do what I can.

Love the covers on the Andrea Penrose series. Hope your new freezer works out well. I’m waiting for a repair on my wall oven.
