All 51 Hercule Poirot short stories presented in chronological order in a single volume - plus a bonus story not seen for more than 70 years.

'My name is Hercule Poirot and I am probably the greatest detective in the world.' The dapper, moustache-twirling little Belgian with the egg-shaped head, curious mannerisms and inordinate respect for his own 'little grey cells' has solved some of the most puzzling crimes of the century.

Appearing in Agatha Christie's very first novel in 1920 and her very last in 1975, Hercule Poirot became the most celebrated detective since Sherlock Holmes, appearing in 33 novels, a play, and these 51 short stories. Arranged in their original publication order, these short stories provide a feast for hardened Agatha Christie addicts as well as those who have grown to love the detective through his many film and television appearances. This new edition now also includes Poirot and the Regatta Mystery, an early version of an Agatha Christie story not published since 1936!

I am a fan of all Agatha Christie stories and I thought how wonderful to have all the short stories of Hercule Poirot in one collection.  This is a long audiobook though, 35 hours long.  I enjoyed them all.  Some I remembered and others I think were new to me.

There are many separate stories so it is easy to stop at a good place.  I did find I had to pay more attention though when a new story started or I’d be lost.  There were new settings and new characters to assimilate.

The table of contents seems to be just tracks rather than names of the stories which would have been more helpful.  I tried to check to see if this was just a feature of Libro.fm only showing tracks, but I couldn’t verify if it was the audio or the player.  Libro.fm, Glose and Audiobooks.com seem to show tracks where Overdrive, Hoopla, iTunes, Chirp and Audible show chapters which may be the same as tracks or not. Some of those showing chapters do say more than just numbers which is helpful.

I am very happy to have these stories, all of them. As expected from having read some of them previously, they were clever and interesting.  I never solve the mystery myself.

Narration:

I loved having the familiar narrators for the stories who have been associated with other audio recordings or television / movie portrayals of Hercule Poirot in the past.  The appropriate voices made listening easy and comfortable.  I listened at just slightly slower than usual, 1.4x speed, to accommodate the changing stories and voices.

  1. Anne

When I saw the title of the post and that it was an audiobook, I was thinking it would be fantastic if David Suchet was the narrator. I am a big fan of the tv series with him. I have one audible credit that I’ve been hoarding, may have to use it on this one especially since it’s 35 hours.

  2. I love Agatha Christie and I’ve read all of her books except for the non-fiction. I think I’ve read most of the short stories, but maybe I’ve missed some? It’s been a long time so I think I’d love this audio, especially since Hugh Fraser and David Suchet are performing. I’ve listened to a few on audio recently narrated by Hugh Fraser and he does an excellent job. How can you go wrong with David Suchet, who in my opinion is the best actor for Hercule.
