The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Sunday, I started up by finishing a good book. Then I visited blogs for Sunday posts. I went for my usual walk with Lulu with a cooler day but still nice.
Monday, I’m feeling a bit beat up. Last week I felt like I had things under control with the construction ending soon getting things accomplished. Today I feel like everyone is mad at me and the construction will never end. The contractors didn’t get here until around 11 and then they didn’t seem to start working until 2. They are doing the grout in the kitchen. My daughter had two medical appts which seemed to go well enough. Lulu and I had a very chilly walk. After that I worked a bit on my Top 10 posts for our Top 10 week in December. Somewhere at the end of the day, the sink got connected!
After Monday:
Tuesday, they are here working early. The quarter round is being lacquered (on my granite countertop which is not quite completely covered. Shudders) The kitchen sink doesn’t seem to have hot water? There’s the dishwasher to hook up and the water to the fridge, an electronics shelf for the island, the quarter round, the outlet covers, and then the plastering and painting. I’m sure I’m forgetting something. I went to pick up takeout and a few groceries. I found Sunkist grape in cans which hasn’t been available for nearly 2 years. When I got back, I met briefly with the contractor on the progress. Then Lulu and I took our walk. It was almost dark when we got back but I blew the leaves out of the front yard.
After Tuesday:
Wednesday, sunny and warmer, into the 70s. I did my usual stuff. Lulu and I enjoyed our walk. I got my tdap booster and got some more bottled water. The lawn where I blew leaves last night is already covered with leaves again. More handles on the cabinets, the pantry closet finished, the dishwasher and fridge reconnected to water, and painting the ceiling, some covers put on outlets happened today.
After Wednesday:
Thursday, the day started ordinarily. In the afternoon, I was getting ready to take my daughter to a med appt and the contractor said he would finish today. So I went around and just confirmed a few items to finish. He even said he would hang the cabinet I saved in my bathroom above the toilet. They had the audacity to use the toilet in my master bath and leave the seats up. I always close the lids when I flush so I cleaned everything in the bathroom, including the toilet and washed all the towels and floor mats, everything that was out and could have been sprayed with toilet water. We didn’t get back from the med appt, a quick stop at Target for granite disinfectant and then getting takeout one last time until 7. So I started cleaning, got the dishwasher all loaded up, got to bed by 2am.
After Thursday:
Friday, I didn’t get up too early. I watered and got to work with laundry and cleaning in the kitchen. I discovered early that the top shelf in the pantry is not painted. I figured out how to setup the lazy susan myself. I worked on cleaning cabinets and setting up shelves. I picked all the rest of the basil. For a break, I took Lulu for our chilly walk. Then I did a bit on the computer. I started cleaning everything in the family room and starting cleaning all the furniture. Lulu is SO happy to have her couch again ! I made baked chicken, green beans, broccoli, and potatoes. It was so great to have real food not takeout. I worked on cleaning and organizing until almost 1 am. Several of the shelves don’t have shelf pins so I placed an order for pins at Home Depot.
Saturday, I was tired and didn’t get up too early. The leaves are really falling this week in front. I’m just going to wait now until they are all down. I continued running dishes thru the dishwasher and doing laundry while I unpacked. Then I ran to Home Depot to get the pins. I scrubbed out the rest of the cabinets now with shelves in them. Then I kept unpacking. We had the pasta with basil pesto for dinner. I am so tired but I want to get everything in place. Today the Top 10 meme info posted; I hope you will join us December 20-25!
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Thanks so much to Karen White / Grey, Amazon Original Stories, and Tantor Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I couldn’t pass up these Chirp deals for $3.99 and 99¢.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

The kitchen looks so great! What a relief to be using it again. My office has been under construction since February so I understand how slow construction is😬 (and still isn’t finished! Obviously it’s a much bigger project but I’m so over it) Have a good week!
Thank you Tammy! It is a relief to have the sink and dishwasher and oven back. I’ve got a lot more unpacking and organizing to do but at least we are somewhat functional now.
I heard the French are real great at starting construction projects at Super slow speeds. You may think to feed them or invite their wives for dinner. I read this in a book somewhere.
Interesting strategy. I don’t think we are quite back to the dinner guest readiness yet though.
Your kitchen looks very smart! I hope you are getting the contractor back to paint that shelf!
Wishing you a great reading week, and good meals.
Lulu looks so cute! I am glad that you can use your kitchen again. Guess, it feels special now using such a gorgeous looking kitchen. Happy cooking *smile*
Thanks Vi! We are getting there. I still have lots to unpack but we can do more basics more easily. Today I’ve got to wash some pots and pans. The only one I have is my big veggie steamer pot. The rest are still in boxes. Lulu was on that couch less than 10 minutes after I shoved it back into place and put on the freshly washed covers, and blankets.
The kitchen looks wonderful. Love the pictures of Lulu and great book haul.
Happy Reading!
The kitchen is finally getting there. Lulu is thrilled to have her couch back.
What a week! But at least now you have a beautiful kitchen!
yes, thank you Sophie. I am pretty tired and will have to slow down the unpacking enough to get some rest. I went to bed earlier last night.
Sadly, it is almost a given that there will be follow-up needed on renovation and construction projects. Your kitchen looks so lovely and I’m glad you have been able to get things cleaned, settled, and start using it again. So much work, but I think it will be worth it to have what you love. Glad you could get out on some walks in the crisp air and get your Top 10 ready. I got the new Melinda Leigh, too.
Have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia! Yes I have to work on the punch list now. I dread having them come back and just putting their tools all over the table where we eat or the countertop again. It was supposed to rain today but it has slipped to tomorrow so I need to get out today as I missed yesterday for walking with Lulu.
Lulu is so cute! I also got Meet Me Under The Mistletoe but haven’t read it yet.
Lulu is our best girl. I can never have too many freebies for the HoHoHo Read-athon. lol
For all the headaches, the kitchen looks great!! I’m glad you made it through the process! Have a great week!
Thank you Samantha! We aren’t quite finished with the process but hopefully the worst is over. Mostly things went well.
Nice to be finally getting some use of your kitchen back! It looks great! I forgot to list Her Second Death, but I got a copy too.
Thanks Rachel! It is just a huge difference.
My husband was an apartment maintenance man so whenever he would start a new project here in our apartment, I knew it was going to take a while for him to finish. Contractors always seem to take too long. I see them in the vacant apartments when they have to install new cabinets, floors or paint and they take a long time to finish.
Lulu is so cute.
Overall I thought they were pretty fast. There are just a few details I didn’t prefer. Lulu is our best girl. Sleeping at my feet now, but last night she was snoring so loud it could be heard throughout the house!
I got Child of Mine to read too!
Wow, that is so rude that they used your bathroom, let alone didn’t put the seat down! That’s very unprofessional. Ugh.
Hopefully this week goes better, have a good holiday!
Yeah I mean I designated a bathroom just for them which we didn’t use while they were here. It was upsetting to me.
I’m excited for Child of Mine but right now I am overflowing in Christmas titles for the HoHoHo Read-athon!
It looks like the kitchen is coming along. Sunkist grape? Oh my gosh I haven’t had that in ages.
Lulu looks happy. 🙂
I’ve liked Robin Hobb’s stuff.
I hope you have a fantastic Thanksgivng! 🙂
Thanks Greg. I don’t drink the grape but my daughter claims its the only thing which calms her stomach? I love Robin Hobb’s books. I finally have them all on audio. Lulu is our best girl. I made a fresh batch of her homemade food last night, her favorite version using chicken thighs. She loves her food, her walks and her blankets. The kitchen is mostly finished but for a few small but annoying details. I am busy planning and organizing all the pumpkin and cranberry etc for the rest of the week.
That’s awesome- I hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! 🙂
The kitchen looks amazing. I hope it’s all you wished for! I’m very excited for Karen’s next book, but I’m holding off for the audiobook… but I look forward to your review (which I’ll skim!)
My week is a blur at this point. I really don’t remember much of what I did. I did go to a celebration of life luncheon on Saturday for my husband’s uncle and although it was sad, we were able to catch up with family we haven’t seen in 5 – 10 years. It was 2.5 hours north up in Maine and a lovely drive.
Thank you Jen! I am finding some things are great and others aren’t quite what I hoped. But I think that’s normal adjusting to the new kitchen layout and stuff. My last few days are a blur of scrubbing, had washing dishes and running the dishwasher. I am not the biggest fan of weddings or funerals unless I know the people well but it is a great boon to the attendees to see people they aren’t in touch with every day. I’m glad you were able to have that. I love Maine!
Wow the kitchen is looking amazing! lol I’m the same way with the bathrooms, I disinfect daily. Enjoy your books this week and Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you! Yeah I’m somewhat of a germaphobe and territorial about my toilet. I’m glad to have a kitchen back. We are already eating better food. I’m looking forward to making the pumpkin and cranberry foods we don’t have so often for the holiday.
I love your kitchen – it’s absolutely lovely. But I appreciate the huge amount of work it takes to get it unpacked and organised. Just remember to pace yourself and don’t get too exhausted – it will all be there tomorrow:)). Ah… listening to Robin Hobb’s writing on audiobook must be a HUGE treat! I’ll have to check it out. Have a great week, Anne.
Thank you Sarah! I did crash after staying up so late and doing so much scrubbing and running the dishwasher. The kitchen looks like a tornado hit it now as I’m trying to get things where they go and find things which are packed. I’m looking forward to cooking stuff this week for Thanksgiving. I LOVE Robin Hobb. I own the whole Elderlings world on audio now.
I’ve really enjoyed seeing the changes in the kitchen as it has progressed. It looks wonderful, Anne! And I’m sure you’re happy to have it back in shape and not looking like a bomb exploded. 🙂 Even putting everything back in place isn’t much of a chore when you have such a beautiful finished product. And hooray for home cooked meals again! 🙂
Thanks Tanya! We are enjoying the home cooking again. But I would say it looks like a bomb hit it because there are boxes all over and piles on counters as I decide where best to store things. lol
Your kitchen looks good, but I can relate to the frustration of how long contractors take! I’ve never had one that actually finished something in a timely manner.
Enjoy your week and your books!
Thank you! It’s great to be eating my own home-cooked food again. They finished mostly on time, there are just a few annoying details to complete.
Wow, your kitchen is looking great! Enjoy it and happy reading.
Thank you ! It looks like a kitchen store explosion now with the counters full of stuff I’m deciding where to put away.
Look at that gorgeous kitchen💜💜💜 Well done, Anne!
My Lulu🥰
I am getting that Bree Taggert prequel on audio and am pretty excited about it. You’ve acquired some wonderful titles, Anne, and I hope you enjoy everything.
Thank you Jonetta! It’s a mess right now with unpacking boxes but it is so good to be able to eat real food. Lulu is so happy right now. I made a fresh batch of her homemade food last night with her favorite protein, chicken thighs. She’s snoozing at my feet now. I’m so grateful to get the best books (for me).
Your kitchen looks lovely. I picked up A Holiday By Gaslight, to read next month. Hope you have a great week!
Thank you! It’s a little early for holiday books but with the HoHoHo Read-athon I am reading them this week into next.
You always feature some amazing freebies – I try to avoid them as I already have far too many on my kindle! The kitchen is looking stunning and I hope all those little finishing touches are completed soon. Have a wonderful week and enjoy your walks with Lulu.
Thank you Louise! I’ve been working on it pretty steady and look forward to finishing up. I only have enough freebies for 10-15 years so I can get more for awhile, especially since I read at least 12 a year. lol.
The end of construction projects always take forever! So many things on the punch list to finish and it just feels like it goes on and on. I hope you’re done soon!
Thank you Stephanie. I hope so since my punch list really isn’t all that long but I need to really look things over since I’ve been so tired.
Your kitchen is looking great! I was surprised when workers used the bathroom at the house that we were selling. I wasn’t really very happy to have to clean a toilet that I wasn’t even using. It looks like you added some great books this week. Enjoy!
Thank you Carole! Some people don’t think. But I had designated a bathroom just for them and they knew it. I’m always thankful to get the books I do.
