The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar. Two giveaways end tonight!
Sunday, the normal visiting went well and I got a couple of reviews written. I enjoyed the Read-along facebook chat after struggling a bit to get the room to work which is unusual. Before dinner, I did some watering because it will be so hot the next 5 days or so, near 100F. Ugh, last week my daughter had 4 medical appts, this week is 3 and next week is back to 4.
Monday, Lulu woke me at 7am but she had to go so I’m fine with it. I did go back to sleep a bit. Lulu went along on my Walmart pickup. Late afternoon, my daughter and I had a try-on party to see if we liked some casual dresses I found on Amazon. We decided which to keep and which to return, replacing some with better sizes. My daughter wasn’t feeling great so we watched 2 more episodes of Hell’s Kitchen instead of the one we normally watch while getting dinner.
Tuesday, there’s a heat warning today. But the wind is from the north and the humidity is low so it feels much better than it did last night. After my daughter’s doc appt, we decided to have dinner for lunch since it is supposed to thunderstorm at dinnertime and I was planning to grill. Of course, it didn’t rain.
Wednesday, the temperature was lower by 10 degrees but with the humidity it was suffocating. I ran errands to do Amazon returns, Aldi and Trader Joe’s while my daughter was at the dentist. I did some watering since the rain has been iffy. We walked Lulu a bit after dinner since it’s so hot during the day.
Thursday, it’s another hot day. I watered a bit and picked spent blossoms when I took Lulu outside. I’ve been staying inside learning more about my home insurance and HSA account. We harvested the broccoli since it’s been hot and it was starting to look like it was bolting. Late afternoon we did get some strong rain which we need. My daughter wanted more bandanas and silk scarves so I gave her some of mine. I don’t have many silk scarves but my bandana collection is extensive. I decided to update my challenges for mid-month. We watched the finale of S17 All Star Hell’s Kitchen.
Friday, another very hot day. I stayed inside and worked on computer things, setting up a few posts and writing a review. The power flickered while I was making Lulu’s food. Luckily our stove is gas so it wasn’t a problem. Apparently half the neighborhood doesn’t have power. It was extremely windy and then rained. I also made us a batch of homemade ice cream with 2 flavors: Peppermint and Fresh Strawberry. I finally got a menu plan organized.
Saturday, finally the wind has turned and is from the north. We’ll have 80s for a couple days now. I picked up sticks and righted the yard waste bin. Some daylilies were snapped by the bin falling so I brought them in and put them in a vase. I got right back out after breakfast to start the lawn mowing. Then I walked Lulu on the long route which used to go by the swans. I didn’t see them. After dinner, I went out to water a bit and pull a few weeds. It’s so nice outside! Next week is shaping up to be another one with medical appts every day but Thursday and even one for Lulu. She wasn’t showing signs of allergies in May but now she is.
Happy Father’s Day!
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Thank you so much to Berkley, Carina Press, and Macmillan Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
NOTHING.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

We celebrated Father´s Day already in May. But Corpus Christi was this week, so I had a holiday too. It is hot here too and my body isn´t happy about it. Ah well … Have a great new week and enjoy your Sunday.
Thank you Vi! I’ve had to plan carefully for my yard work and even break it up into shorter time periods when it is SO hot. Today is heavenly. 80F / 27C with north wind and low humidity. Tomorrow will be good and them it is back to the oven.
I can relate on the extreme heat. Yesterday it was 99 and the rest of the week was in the high 90’s. Plus add in the Florida humidity. So miserable. I forever need to write reviews and set up posts but never seem to make the time. I blog by the seat of my pants. LOL As much as I love Sarina Bowen, I have not read Moonlighter yet. I need to get that one.
Tanya, I always try to select out the best freebies to post. I also share them daily on facebook and twitter. I only do the ones I would be willing to read or have already read. Today has cooled off to 80 with low humidity and north wind. It was 50s overnight – it’s heavenly. Tomorrow also but then it’s back to the heat. UGH.
Sounds like last week was a pretty good week! I see you have the ARC for the next Kat Halloway book. I’m one behind and hope to get the audiobook from the library before the audiobook for the newest comes out. I need to get through a couple review audiobooks first.
Weather here is still inconsistent. We had a couple nice days, but then this weekend has been chilly. We went to see my son play in the NH All Star LAX game yesterday and it was windy, overcast, and 58F. BRRRR.
Thanks Jen! It was pretty good. I just organize my days by the heat so that I can get things accomplished. We have a short spurt of 80s now and it’s heavenly. I love 58! It was 58 overnight, around 80 today but the low humidity is precious. I thought I wouldn’t get the new Kat Holloway because they even put read the excerpt on it and that is usually the kiss of death but it came through!
Homemade ice cream sounds amazing right now.
It’s really easy to make. I got the recipe from an Ilona Andrews post!
We’ve had a couple of cool days here, but it’s going back up to the 90s this week. I guess it’s officially summer! Have a good week, Anne😁
Thanks Tammy. Yes it’s heavenly 80s for a couple days and even low humidity. But then the heat is on again.
Glad you’re starting to get a break from the heat. Enjoy your books and the coming week!
Thanks Bonnie.
It was CRAZY hot here this past week. We had heat warnings Monday-Wednesday, and a heat advisory Thursday. Yesterday-it was a high of 73. Ohio is crazy. Have a great week!
Thank you Samantha! Yes we were on that same cycle with cooler now for a few days and then hot again.
It was cool here yesterday and it will be today too, but then it’s supposed to really heat up with 94 degree weather (real feel 98!), but still that’s cooler than down South were we used to be and I’m thankful! The house here stays pretty cool with a bunch of trees around, but I’ll have to water around like you. We still don’t have the water line working in the front for a hose or anything because in the past it froze and they never fixed it. Getting on that hopefully today.
Glad to hear you got a few days of cooler weather.
Thanks Rachel. It seems a cycle of 3-5 days oven, then cooler. But at least we get the cooler, but I don’t know if that will continue in July.
I hope your daughter feels better soon. The humidity is so suffocating. Whenever I travel back east, it’s the thing I look forward to the least. I love dry heat.
I think it’s worse in Minnesota than here. But mostly this late June until late August are the worst so only about 2 months.
Those storms were nasty, but we did need the rain. And it’s so nice out now. Ahhh! I’m going to mow tomorrow morning while it’s still cool from tonight’s drop to 54º. I hope you have a great week despite the upcoming heat (again), Anne!
Thanks Carol. It’s a shuffle to fit in the mowing on the cooler days. I hope we get a few breaks in July and August otherwise I’ll have to mow really early or really late.
One of your freebies, Just Kidding, is a good one! I wish we could have some 80s here, I think the closest we have are a couple of 88 degree days later this week. Ugh. I hate the heat. Hope you have a good week!
Thanks Lisa. I am not a fan of the heat either. But luckily, it’s only this late June to Late August which are bad and the other 10 months are really gorgeous weather.
wow…you are so busy. it has been brutally hot at my house too, so my time is spent inside or in the pool. hope you have a good week
Thank you Sherry. The oven days I spend inside. I just have to get things done on those cooler days outside.
Our weather got hotter throughout the week and by Friday we had temperatures in the high 80s. By the end of Saturday, they were back down to the mid-60s – our weather is so topsy-turvy. I love your photos, Lulu is as cute as ever and the flowers are beautiful. Happy reading!
Thank you Louise. Your weather sounds better. While the next 2 months will be mostly hot, the other 10 months here are pretty gorgeous so I can’t really complain.
It sounds like you’ve had a busy week. I’m sorry to hear your daughter isn’t feeling well and hope that weather is more comfortable now . Great haul this week too! Have a great week!
Thank you Jodie. I’m really enjoying the cooler days. I hope we get these little breaks over the next 2 months as it will make mowing more comfortable.
The humidity’s the worst. I’m glad you’re in an 80’s cycle and not 100’s. 🙂 We’re warmer here too after a cool early June. It’s 79 today so I can’t complain…
That Alice Feeny books looks good- love the eerie cover!
Thank you Greg. I’m excited about the Feeny book. I hope we continue to get in a few cooler cycles. The next 2 months are the hot ones. The rest of the year is great.
Nice book haul! I’m glad the weather is improving for a bit for you and Lulu. I hope your daughter feels much better soon.
Thank you Wendy. The next 2 months will be too hot, but the other 10 months are gorgeous so I just have to get through these 2. Hopefully with a few cooler days for yardwork.
A hundred, ugh! Glad you got some rain and cooler days, too. I have a good bandana collection, too. I’ve thought I should give some over to my niece who likes to make things from them. Another productive week for you.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia! It was really nice over the weekend and now tomorrow will be 96 again.
Strawberry ice cream sounds amazing! I love homemade ice cream. I’m sorry to hear your daughter wasn’t feeling bad but glad you were able to just relax and watch an extra episode of your show together. We’ve been in the 100s and will be back there next week but today was in the low 90s with fairly low humidity so it felt amazing! Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Thanks Katherine! It sounds like the weather cycle is up and down everywhere. Our weekend was awesome and now it’s heating up again.
We’ve had heat warnings too. Even the nights are close to 90. No end it sight either. Ice cream sounds perfect!
Thanks Laura. WE got into the 50s at night over the weekend but now it’s back to around 70 with almost 100 in the day. But the wind tomorrow is supposed to be from the north which helps.
Homemade fresh strawberry ice cream sounds delicious. Enjoy your latest haul.
Thank you! It’s a deceptively light dessert but that cream makes it more heavy. Delicious though. I like trying it with different flavorings.
I’m enjoying the cold of winter -it’s easier to warm up than cool down.
I’ve always wanted to try making icecream but haven’t gotten to it yet.
Wishing you a great reading week, and stay cool!
The recipe I use only has 3 ingredients and is very easy, no machine or anything. It just uses heavy whipping cream, a can of sweetened condensed milk and vanilla plus whatever flavoring we add. I should put it up on my recipe tab later this week if I get a chance.
Yum! Homemade ice cream! My uncle used to make it but it’s been years since he’s done that–at least when we’ve been around.
We got into the mid-90s here over the weekend, which wasn’t quite as high as forecasters expected, but it was pretty miserable in our RV. The AC couldn’t keep up and I only had it set on 84. At least it isn’t humid here though. I can’t even tell you the last time we personally were in temperatures like this. Maybe in Florida in spring 2021? Maybe in Oregon in summer 2020? It’s been a while. Stay cool!
Thanks! Staying cool will be the primary goal for the next 2 months.
My Lulu is so itchy this year. Her allergies are pretty strong. You had quite the hot. We must have taken all your cool weather here!
Our Lulu has now started itching too. So this Friday will be the allergy shot. We seem to be in this 4-5 day cycle of hot, then cooler depending on if the wind is from the south or north.
Ooh, look at those freebies! Here’s hoping they lead to some interesting reading experiences and more. I’m excited about Daisy Darker, too.
That’s an adorable shot of Lulu💜 Hope her allergies get better!
Thank you! I am really excited about some of those freebies. Lulu has her allergy shots at the end of the week so hopefully that will help her, as it did last year, with the itching.
We’re in our second week of a heat wave and I am OVER it. But we have good AC so I can’t complain, really. In fact the AC is running and I just had a chocolate milkshake so I’m freezing to death in my fleece jammies and socks.
Your homemade ice cream sounds tasty! I only made ice cream once and didn’t like the texture of it. I want it to be like Baskin Robbins. lol
Did Lulu enjoy her Walmart run?
Lulu did enjoy her Walmart run. She likes to see different things as long as we are there with her. I can’t say I know the texture of Baskin Robbins but my dim memory of it is it being much coarser than the homemade version I make. My version is very smooth and creamy. Other than the things added in like strawberries. Those are chunks.
