The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.  The giveaway on Ruby Fever ends Monday night.

Sunday,  I did some blog visiting.   Then today was the facebook chat for COYER book club which was fun and interesting as always.   Right before dinner when it cooled down a little, I got the dirt into the raised bed and planted spinach and two kinds of lettuce with the Biotone fertilizer the garden center recommended.  My daughter hadn’t been feeling well, mostly a sore throat,  so I had her take a COVID test. It was negative.    After dinner, I finished the book for the COYER recommendations RAT.

Monday, I decided to wash my sheets plus my blanket.  I finished up Sunday visiting.  My daughter is feeling better.  I walked Lulu right before dinner and it was warm and sticky but just bearable.   I found out my niece is pregnant with the baby due in January!   My mom will be a great-grandma!  My younger brother will be a grandpa!

Tuesday,  I got going well today.  There’s always more to do.  I wrote a review and got organized for the week.  My daughter and I quilted a bit after her doc appt this afternoon.   I prepared my list of errands for tomorrow. It’s supposed to rain overnight so I didn’t water.

Wednesday,  lots of things to do and so little time.  Lulu had a quick vet checkup. My daughter had a chiro appt. I went to the post office and Aldis and picked up her RX at Harris Teeter.  I got unexpected book mail from Berkley romance!  I did a bit of spot watering.

Thursday, a second day with north wind and low humidity. I hope to get outside and do a bit.  Lulu loves my new coneflower plant and lays down by it often when we go outside.   I am frantically trying to catchup on things.  How did I get so far behind?   I tried to play Wordle and it is on its side on my desktop. So I had to play on my phone.  Goodreads only seems to make me login if I haven’t been in it for 12 hours or more.   I had 2 days this week now it didn’t make me login.  How is it September?  The weather felt so good.  I managed to mow and trim the whole yard.  I even sprayed weed killer on the driveway cracks.  My neighbor finally got their yard mowed.  It had been 2-3 weeks in the front, but seriously, they had not mowed the backyard yet this year.  It was about knee high or more.   I showered, got dinner started and then my daughter watched it while I walked Lulu a bit.

Friday, I didn’t sleep well but then I had so much I wanted to do.   I wrote some reviews. Wordle was in the correct position today. The weather is heating up so I didn’t want to be outside. I got more unexpected book mail.  It’s weird as these are not books I would usually read.  But I can give them away as I do with almost all print books I receive. I was quickly checking email before I went to bed.  I was notified that I am now a Goodreads librarian.  I’m a little scared now as I want to do it right; mostly I want to add audiobooks.

Saturday,  my daughter was still up at 11 am.  I worked on my month end totals and updating links.  I spent some time planning projects for the house, repairs and the yard.   I made up a September reading planner to figure out how to fit things in this month. It won’t be the way it goes but it gives me a goal.  It’s not going to rain much and it will be hot so tonight I need to do some watering.   I hope everyone who has Labor Day on Monday is enjoying a longer weekend with some relaxing.

August Reading:  I had another good reading month.  I managed to read 24 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge.  I listened to 15 audiobooks, read 9  library books,  24 COYER reads,  and 10 books which I already own.

All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog)  2022 Library Love Challenge

I did manage to read 9 books I own (goal is 3 per month):

  • A Cold Dark Place by Toni Anderson
  • 🎧 Manitou Canyon by William Kent Krueger
  • 🎧 The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow
  • 🎧 Sulphur Springs by William Kent Krueger
  • 🎧 Desolation Mountain by William Kent Krueger
  • 🎧 A Stitch in Time by Kelley Armstrong
  • Red by Kate SeRine
  • New Orleans Rush by Kelly Siskind
  • 🎧 Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My thanks to AceRoc Books,  Penguin Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I got my Prime First Reads book.

For some unknown reason, Audible sent me a $10 coupon (already had a $5 coupon from when you use a certain number of credits). It looks like it is because I bought nothing in the last sale?  Anyway, I used the coupons to get more of my loved Jack Campbell  series.

I got these on sale from Chirp for $5, and 99¢.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Hooray for all the book mail this week. That’s always fun mail to receive. And nice that your neighbors finally mowed. The two of either side of us are good about keeping it up, thankfully. Three of us in a row use a lawn care service and we’re all on a schedule. So no overgrown yards to contend with. Congrats on being a Goodreads librarian. I hope that goes well!

    • Thank you Tanya. It’s fun to get them even if I don’t keep the books. I really was starting to be annoyed by the weeds they were going in the back yard. The other neighbors are on a regular schedule. I use their lawn guy to cut my tall bush / trees. Last year I had him trim twice a month but now I’ve learned to use my trimmer!

  2. I think you got more done than it felt like when I read your descriptions. Glad you had some milder days to work with. I spent a day at the vet (had to wait longer b/c of emergencies coming in) and was able to spend a day getting meals cooked up for the week without it being so hot. Yay for the books and the extra Audible coupon. I don’t keep many print copies these days, either. I got Station Eternity, too.

Happy Labor Day and have a good week, Anne!

  3. Woohoo – I am doing a happy dance here. You are a Librarian, YES!!! Congrats and I am sure, you will be a great one. Also congrats on the baby news. Okay, the happy dance is over *lol* At least one family who is ending the week with some good if not great news. Happy reading and happy listening, Anne 🙂

    • Thank you Vi! I’m a little terrified to make mistakes so I will have to do some reading and be careful. At least I can correct something if I know I made a mistake, right away. Before they took away being able to add book, anyone could add but if they had a typo or anything there was no way to fix it. Now we are looking at patterns and fabrics for another baby quilt.

  4. I love surprise book mail! I received a couple of books lately that I wouldn’t normally read but I might give them a try anyway. That is exciting news that your niece is expecting. I am okay with my sister having grandchildren but I don’t think that I am ready for them yet. You had a great reading month! I hope that you have a wonderful week!

    • Thank you Shelleyrae! I don’t want to make mistakes so I appreciate the advice. Normally, I want to add audiobooks when there are no audiobooks on the record and it is being released soon. So I’m not so worried about duplicates as doing it correctly. I plan to do more reading of the manual.

  5. I’m glad your daughter didn’t get COVID and that she’s feeling better. Yay for nice temperature too! I also play Wordle but I always play on my phone. Have a great week!

  6. I am glad your daughter is feeling better. I am glad the weather was nice for a few days so you could get a lot done. It was a busy work week for me. I had planned to spend part of today on chores but I’ve only managed to get the laundry done. I guess it’s going to be one of those days. Yay for good reading months! I am glad August was a good one for you. Have a great September and happy reading!

  7. Our neighbor is the same way- it was a jungle over there lol. I was starting to wonder what was living in the grasslands. Ha. I’m looking forward to that new Mur Lafferty book.

    Happy Labor Day!!!!!

  8. Yeah for the book mail. I do see some wonderful covers and I wouldn’t mind having a couple for myself. Sounds like you’ve had a good week and it was much more productive than mine. I find it very hard to put my KIndle down and do much of anything else, but I must. The rain has backed off, so I am hoping to get outside and do some work. Happy reading.

  9. We didn’t double up on any of the freebies this week. BUT, I did choose the same Amazon First Read as you, the one by Bailey. With all the activities you do, it’s amazing that you read 24 books/mo! Even with listening, that’s a lot of books. I can’t listen all the time because I’ve discovered if I’m really paying attention to the book, the activity I’m supposed to be doing isn’t done as well. – But, congrats to you on a great book month!! Thanks for the visit.

  10. Congrats on a new niece. It’s exciting to have new additions to the family!

I got a lot of (physical) books I didn’t order too! I’m glad it wasn’t just me because I hope they don’t expect a review on them. I’m already so behind I don’t know how I’d fit them in. I’ll probably try and feature on Instagram or something, and then give them away too.

Nice that you’re having great weather! We’re having six days of 100-106 weather coming up! Although, right now as I write this the weather is quite nice (at 7:17 pm).

    • Thank you Rachel. My niece is pregnant but isn’t telling the gender of the baby yet. It is exciting as the first baby in my daughter’s generation of the family. I always feel badly when I can’t review them all but at least I can offer them as giveaways. It heated up over the weekend but it looks like we’ll have rain tonight followed by a bit cooler weather.

  11. What an impressive number of books you got through this month, Anne – and congratulations on becoming a Goodreads librarian. I have to confess to being completely defeated by the whole process – I now tend to ask the librarians to add my own books, as I always make a right royal mess of it… I don’t find it particularly intuitive! I hope you have a good week – and I’m very glad your daughter is recovering and it wasn’t covid:)).

    • Thank you Sarah. When I went through the testing for becoming a Librarian I realized how complex it really is. That doesn’t mean it isn’t learnable but I plan to read more and be more careful in adding new books. Usually though I am adding audiobooks when there is no audio version so it’s unlikely to be a duplicate at least.

  12. Congratulations on becoming a Goodreads librarian! Relax; you’ll do fine. Let me know if you have any questions (though I’m hardly an expert. Mostly all I do is add books or editions, or correct something like a missing cover photo or a missing publisher.)

Lulu is adorable, as usual. I’m glad your daughter didn’t have Covid and is feeling better. Unexpected book mail is always fun. And enjoy Station Eternity! I just started it last night, and stayed up way too late reading. So far, I really like it.

    • Thank you Kara. I finished my ARC I was worrying about at 3:30am last night so tonight if I can stay awake I’ll be reading more Marple stories. I do plan to read more to not make mistakes as a librarian but mostly I’ll add audio books where there aren’t any so at least they won’t be duplicates.

  13. Yay for being a GR Librarian! So, when I need something added and I’m not getting a reply I can drop you a quick note? 😉 I had asked for a book edition to be added, but after nearly 2 weeks and me bumping the thread a couple of times, I reached out to the author and asked him to add it. I liked it so much better when I could add books/editions though I understand the need to keep the database from getting messy.

Maybe we’re finally getting some Fall-ish weather? For NC anyway. lol My plants are doing horribly. Yours look awesome!

    • Thank you Carol. Yes you can certainly email me BooksMyHeart@gmail.com and I will try to respond in a couple days. I am going to be cautious until I get used to doing it. From studying for the test, I’ve learned I made some mistakes when I did it before. I get the need for consistency. I applied mostly because I wanted to be able to add audiobooks which often aren’t there.

It looks like the rain moved up to today and it will be cooler after? Maybe.

  14. Jen

Congrats on becoming a librarian! Now I know who to bug to get my audiobooks set up! My week went by quickly, and it was emotionally rough the past few days – we moved my son into his dorm. He’s about 3 hours away (without traffic). I’m doing pretty good, but things will hit me hard – like this morning, a van like his drove by and I looked to see him, but it’s not him.

    • Thanks Jen. I’ll try. That’s why I applied to be one. I felt that way at times leaving my parents and my brother but I still have my daughter with me. It’s important for his growth that he learn on his own though. It doesn’t make it any easier for you. Hopefully he will stay close in that half-day range after he graduates. My brother went to Florida, while I was in Minnesota and my parents in Iowa. Now Mom is also in FL and I moved to NC which is about a 2 day drive to FL.

  15. I hope you get a good crop from the lettuce and spinach. Lulu looks fantastic in that photo – she is so clever! You have such an amazing book haul too! Good luck with your September reading goals.

  16. I can’t believe its September already. This year sure has flown. You had quite a busy week and it seems like you got a lot accomplished. Reading 9 books you own is great! I am trying to do some more of that as well. Plus I am using my local libraries tons!

    • I’m glad it’s September since it might cool down! yes I’ve been trying to read at least a few books I own each month for the past couple years. I am a huge library user as well. I had 11 books out but finished one and returned it this morning.

  17. So glad your neighbors finally mowed their grass! We’ve had neighbors who let their yard get out of control and it seemed like the bug problem was so much worse – and don’t even get me started on the fact they let their pool turn into a swamp! Thankfully that was only one year but it was not fun. Love the picture of Lulu and how great about the Audible coupon. You got some great new books this week! Have a great week!

  18. What a super busy week! Love seeing the new dirt in your raised bed. Sorry to hear that your daughter wasn’t feeling well. Maybe it was just allergies? Mine have been bad this year. The ragweed is out of control. Anc congrats on the upcoming baby in the family!
