Sunday Post – 11 September 2022 @kimbacaffeinate @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar. The Rules of Engagement Giveaway ends tonight.

Sunday,  I started the regular Sunday visiting and responding to emails, remembered I wanted to make a garden calendar which showed when I planted and the date range the veggie should produce so I sidetracked to do that for a few minutes.  I really have too many windows going in my head concurrently sometimes.  I started on reading Sunday posts and then realized I hadn’t posted my review to Netgalley yesterday. It was review #500!  I stayed up reading until 3:30am. oops.

Monday,  for only 4+ hours of sleep I feel good. Tomorrow will be the problem.  I’m full of ideas and need to actually work on some things. It’s going to rain tonight – a day earlier – so no grilling tonight – and cooler temps a day earlier. Since October will be busier, I need to do some 2023 blog ahead the next 2 weeks.  Lulu and I went out for a walk right before the rain was supposed to start.  It didn’t really rain much.

Tuesday,   it was cloudy a bit but Lulu and I got out before it rained or got too hot.  I wrote some reviews.  I worked a bit on plans for 2023 Library Love and an upcoming newsletter.   I put together a Sam’s Club and Walmart pickup for tomorrow.  Yes Lulu likes to sit between our feet. under the table,  while we eat dinner. She makes no sound, no begging. She just wants to be by us.

Wednesday,  I realized I had a expanding handle duster in the closet (not used before)  and it was just the thing to get a few cobwebs up at the edges of my high ceilings.   There was lots of planning and brainstorming today about 2023 Library Love and the 2024 Read-along.     I had to leave in the afternoon to take my daughter to her math test at the college (with mask) and do my curbside pickups along with a stop at the post office.  Other than rain and traffic, this was the least hassle fast pickups ever.  Wednesday is the day to shop.

Thursday,  I got a good start on the day.  It’s cloudy and north wind so this is a nice period of weather with less heat.  I worked on the Library Love email and more planning for next year.  It’s cloudy and not too hot, so Lulu and I walked the longest route.

Friday,  I was tired today. Someone barked to get out of her crate at 6:24am.  Later Lulu and I did our walk, and other than in the sun, the weather was lovely.   The rudbeckia, asters, gaillardia, and chrysanthemum  are still blooming in front, but now the anemone and azalea are starting.  The first photo shows the anemone and asters better. In the backyard,  the roses and tickseed are still strong and the standard dwarf iris is starting to rebloom.

Saturday,  it’s cloudy and cooler. It was supposed to rain all day and of course, it hasn’t.  This whole next week looks cooler in the 80s with north winds.  When I took Lulu out I pulled up chard roots the size of my wrist to go in the compost.  Then I added compost and planted Laurel (bay leaves) in the herb bed where it was.  Our neighborhood pool closes tomorrow and we haven’t been there yet, too many people.  I was going to walk Lulu but I waited too long and it started raining.

Things I Learned This Week:

OK  if I’m asking for help, I’m also going to share the cool things I learn. You may already know them but hopefully it will help someone.

Well I have heard this over the last few weeks.  Overdrive is going away as of December 2022.  I hope it is only the app.  I have started using Libby app but there are things I haven’t figured out how to do that are easy in Overdrive.  An example is downloading audiobooks in whole or part.  Here’s a link about it:  HERE  From what I can tell, even though you can’t download Overdrive after 2022, you can still use it for awhile. Also it will continue to be available on a laptop / desktop which I am happy to continue using.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Marlene at  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My special thanks to Penguin Audio,   Atria Books,  and Tantor Audio.

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

None.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Anne

  1. I’m delighted to have The BulletThat Missed, I plan to read it this week.
I was also motivated to start planning for the challenge I host next year,
I’m glad you are enjoying cooler weather

Wishing you a great reading week

  2. We got several intense rain storms here this week that I was so happy for. But on the downside it’s still hitting 90 almost every day. Yuck. I wish I had the time to do grocery pick-ups during the week. I bet mid-week (like you did) is much less busy. I still haven’t switched over to Libby. I really like the Overdrive website and use it a LOT. I’ll miss it once it’s gone.

    • Hey Tanya, the Overdrive desktop will stay and I use it also. The app won’t be available to download but it will work for awhile. I see the writing on the wall and am using Libby for listening on my phone. We’ve made it to the mid 80s so we are starting to have some change and it’s great. Just that little bit really helps.

  3. Gardens are quite the retreat. I’ve been watching Anne of Green Gables and the perspective of living during those times makes me cherish what I have.

    • Thanks Nicole. There are just LOTS of reasons I like Overdrive and also I’m used to it. But there are things one can’t do in Libby like choose files to download, for example. I’m glad the desktop is staying and that Overdrive will work for awhile even if one can’t download it anymore. I am getting used to Libby and I like some things it can do.

  4. Another busy week for you. I am not happy about the fact that they are getting rid of Overdrive. It works perfectly and I don’t think that we ever needed another app so I resisted downloading Libby. I hope you enjoy all of your new additions.

    • Thank you. I am totally with you on the Overdrive love, Carole. At least it will stay for the desktop. There are some things you can’t do on Libby but there are a few features I like. Anyway, Overdrive will work for some unspecified amount of time just people won’t be able to download the app anymore. But I’m getting used to Libby for listening.

  5. My library went to the Libby app a few years ago. I’m getting used to it, but I liked Overdrive better. I always love your pics of Lulu every week. Makes me want to do a pic of my dogs every week, I’ve noticed other bloggers do a pic of their pets as well. Looks like you got some great books this week too! Have a good week!

  6. Glad the tasks and order pick ups went well this week. Neat that you got into your 2023 planning and worked out some reviews. I have started a few gardening journals and slip up after a bit and forget to enter the details. I need to do better at that. This was a weird week of getting a little of this and that done without a feeling of accomplishment. Enjoy that haul of books you got.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  7. I have only read the first Richard Osman book and still want to read the rest. I need to get the second one soon so that I don’t fall behind on the series too much. The rest of your book haul looks exciting as well.

Have a wonderful week and happy reading!

    • Thank you Greg. This week was just the flowers but I like how I built that planter without any help last fall. So it doesn’t look perfect. But I wanted to get the perennials in and I tried to set it up so there would be complimentary things blooming all year. I made a few mistakes but overall it’s doing well.

  8. You’ve had a busy week like always. It also sounds like the weather is cooling down in your neck of the woods. I hope you, your daughter, and Lulu have a fantastic week!

  9. I don’t think I’ve stayed up that long in quite a while. Close, but not quite that long. Since I have to be at work at 6:30 a.m., I really try not to stay up too late even on the weekends because it throws me off, but doesn’t always work out that way. My husband can afford to be a night owl and my daughter leans that way too. I had to ask my husband what Overdrive is. I don’t think I’ve ever used the app. It’s raining again–oh, how I love that sound! I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!

  10. I’m dreading switching over to Libby because I like Overdrive and have all my libraries on there. Not going to enjoy figuring it out. Lulu is a sweetie. Nice to hear you got some rain. We desperately need it to help put out the fire. I want the new Richard Osman. I got denied on NG so I requested it in Edelweiss. Did the same thing with Ruby Fever and they just ignored my request. :/ We’ll see.

    • I hate when they ignore my requests. I got denied the Osman book on NG but I got it on audio. I’m listening now and it’s excellent. Lulu is our best girl. I am using Libby now for listening on my phone but I still use Overdrive to download (because Libby doesn’t have that feature). The app will automatically transfer your libraries from Overdrive. So you won’t be able to get the Overdrive app but if you have it, it will still work for awhile. And Overdrive will still be the desktop/laptop app. Good luck Rachel.

  11. Sweet Lulu! You got so many great books! I really enjoyed the first book in the Richard Osman series and I really want to start the Andrea Penrose series. I hope you are having a wonderful week!

  12. Jen

I’m a bit behind this week – but OH NO – no more Overdrive? I agree, I like that over Libby – easier to use. I guess I’d better start using Libby instead. Thanks for the heads up. I hope your week has been a good one so far (it’s already Friday!)

    • The weather here has been low humidity so it’s been a great week for yard work and dog walking. So Overdrive will still be on the computer / laptop, just not downloadable as a phone app. It will work for awhile if you have it as an app but you won’t be able to download after Dec 2022. I prefer Overdrive but I’m working on getting used to Libby on my phone. It is missing some features I used on Overdrive like downloading the whole book, especially if I know I am going somewhere with spotty Internet. Yeah I’m the bearer of sad news but I figure I should get used to it now rather than be dumped into it with no experience.
