The survivors of a terrible wreck meet again—but this time only one can survive.
The long-awaited sequel to The Wreck of the Nebula Dream…
They survived an iconic spaceship wreck together. She never expected to see him again … especially not armed to kill her.
Twilka Zabour is an interstellar celebrity. She built on her notoriety as a carefree Socialite who survived the terrible wreck of the Nebula Dream, and launched a successful design house. But now the man who gave meaning to her life, then left her, is back–this time for the worst of reasons. Will he kill her … or help her survive?
D’nvannae Brother Khevan survived the Nebula Dream in the company of a lovely, warm woman, only to be pulled away from her, back into his solitary life in the service of the Red Lady. Now Twilka’s within his reach again–for all the wrong reasons. Khevan will do everything within his power to discover why Twilka has been targeted for assassination, and to save her.
But Khevan is not Twilka’s only pursuer. Will allies Nick and Mara Jameson arrive in time to aid the couple, or will Khevan and Twilka’s ingenuity be all that stands between them and death?
Two wreck survivors who seemed destined for each other, suddenly parted paths, and their story picks up years later when someone takes out a contract on Twilka and Khevan is the assassin hired to carry it out. Far future space and planetary adventures and romances that get the blood pumping are what I savor each time I pick up the next entry in The Sectors series.
Star Survivor is the ninth book in the series. It is a direct sequel to the prequel story, the Wreck of the Nebula Dream picking up the story of the secondary characters, Twilka and Khevan.
I loved the Wreck story and meeting the gutsy, socialite who is more than she seems and the silent, deadly assassin Brother. Twilka is determined not to let Khevan near enough to rip off the bandages holding the pieces of her heart together, but at the same time she is angry and wants answers to why he left and went back to the Brotherhood when he swore he was done. I had my suspicions as to what happened there and I was right.
This was a quick and exciting follow up adventure returning to the situation seeped in mysticism and religion. Worshipers commit to either of the alien sisters- the Red Lady or the White Lady- who are real and have direct contact and control of their followers. The White Lady works through peaceful, non-violent means and the Red Lady revels in death and killing so her acolytes are assassin monks. Once committed, the Red Lady doesn’t let her followers go, especially when they are particularly good at what they do like Khevan who has worked his way to near the top and the monks upward progress in the Brotherhood are encouraged to be cut throat so he has enemies who want his spot.
The background of Khevan’s being a Brother plays a strong part in the story, as does his distant past that comes to light and shadows his whole life. It is on Twilka whether she wants to give trust and a second chance. She is under-estimated because of her family wealth and her notoriety when partying, but surviving a disaster sobered her and set her on a better path now as a successful businesswoman and Khevan saw her worth before her big outward changes. I was really cheering this pair on to work through it. Khevan comes clean and the truth helps Twilka understand more happened than she knew, but that is only the beginning and they face big trials and their lives are in danger.
Another fabulous entry in the series and I was glad to revisit a familiar set of characters and get a peek at what the others from the first book are doing now. Interesting weaving of the mysticism with sci-fi future tech in this one. Sci-fi Romance fans should definitely consider this series.

Oh, this sounds interesting. I haven’t read anything from this author, thanks for the introduction.
Glad to put her books on your radar, Jennifer. 🙂
It’s so kind of you to take the time to review the book and wow, you really ‘got’ the characters! I’m so fond of them and was glad they resonated with you too. It took me a few years to figure out how their story needed to proceed but I really enjoyed writing it.
I’m having a blast with The Sectors series as you know, but I was thrilled you went back and gave this pair their own story. 🙂
I like a long series like this where we get to visit earlier characters and see them happy.
Same here and see a former side pair get their own story. Double the pleasure. 🙂
Sounds like a great sci-fi second chance romance! I’d like to try the series sometime!
That would be fun. Definitely start with the prequel- it’s a Titanic retelling. 🙂
I really should read more books like that!
I agree. 🙂
I must add this series to my tbr pile. Fantastic review Sophia.
Yay, glad to tempt you, Kimberly!
Sounds like you had a blast with this one.
I sure did. I’ve enjoyed reading through this series all year. 🙂
I can see why you loved this one. It sounds amazing!
Thanks, Lark! I’ve had a blast reading through this whole series this year, but yes, especially getting this sequel to the first story was fab.
Man I am so far behind on commenting. LOL been having an issue this summer 😉 Hopefully fall I will be better.
